There needs to be more Dave Navarro videos like this. You should do a few more. Navarro might have the best tone that came out of the 80s. His tone on xxx is so damn good. Very tasteful playing too. You really get the vibe and his tone here.

I enjoyed the shit out of that. DN is my favourite guitarist. As a teenager, I would sit and learn these licks with a tape recorder. Funked up blues licks continually creating texture. And shreddy - but in a very measured and sophisticated way, with a superb technique.

You really have nailed Dave’s sound. Thank you for sharing the secrets this amazing artist birthed. I love how groove and slammn his rhythm riffs just flow beautifully into leads, that are so iconic and memorable. Dave has such an unreachable sound for so many of us. But he inspires us with a burning passion. Nice job, breaking down his sound.

Jane's is the whole reason I even started playing guitar. It was a mission for me to make it in a band.

Daves life outside of music and his dating history etc have overshadowed what a great player he is. He took Hendrix style blues, added a (small) pinch of shredding and gave it an alternative sound. Theres a bit of funk in there too. His solos are full of feeling. Not dead like Malmsteen and any of his contemporaries. He does fast runs above the 12th fret and punctuates them with big bends at the right times. Lots of showmanship and swagger without becoming some loser jerking off his guitar.

You’re giving me intense flashbacks to sitting in my bedroom in Macon during high school trying to work out the stuff from the first album.

The Three Days solo is still a classic. Man it’s fun to play. I heard the producer say Dave always nailed things take after take exactly. Rarely made mistakes.

I know Dave more from his stint with the rhcp. One Hot Minute is such an underrated album, definitely the best one without John.

Dave seems to get quite a bit of hate as a player but I’ve always found his playing extraordinary particularly as he was 19 when he recorded the XXX album.
