I think you may be a bit biased, music isn't about complexity or speed or anything, but about flow, cooperation, you took time to answer to a seven years old comment, but please interest yourself in other genres, you would be surprised of how much fun people can have :)@@Fckisnotrealnatowefc_nts

@@Vaginaattori It is true - Gene Hoglan said that he taught Dave to play double bass sometime between Show No Mercy and Haunting The Chapel. If you look at pics and video of Slayer playing live in 1983, you can clearly see that Dave only has one bass drum (and this was before they made double bass pedals). Name a song from Show Mercy where you think you hear double bass - I guarantee it's just Dave playing really fast single bass patterns.

@@dmitryowens I know all these stories, & have had this debate before. The evidence is in the studio record. 2:33 onwards on the link below. Anyone who has ever played the drums even 1% seriously knows that kind of speed can't be done with 1 pedal. Like literally not even 0,00000001% possible to pull something like that off, & zero performances like that exist in music today, & there's some supernaturally fast drummers these days. There are other moments on the album too. This one being the most obvious. Only way i'm wrong is that they did some weird editing magic for that song, or it's too shitty quality to hear 100%(not convinced). I just watched, & there's live clips of Dave playing the song during that era, & he's got 2 bassdrums. Aaaaand lesser evidence is that almost all drum covers on YT have double kicks in that part. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYtp2JlwlKS5d9o.html&ab_channel=MeanMachine

I think he may be the only guy that I’ve heard who can play Bonham with such a similar voice. Both had/have swing. John Bonham brought it to rock and is one of the most instantly recognizable styles in the genre. Dave did just the same with Metal and I’d argue that his sound is the most recognizable I. The genre. They both defined drums for their respective genres. Many would argue they’re the quintessential drummers of their genres. I’d certainly say that of Dave. Anyway, he truly nailed this.

Slayer made divine intervention and that alone was amazing. Dont take everything away from Tom, Kerry and Jeff. They still had amazing performances and it's the music that counts. Yeah bill ward should have been on the final tour with sabbath. Mike Bordin filled his shoes well. The music was right on. Geezer and Tony can drive that band and mesmerize also

Every wets their kegs over Bonham. Most fans sit in purile judgement and pass comments without being experienced players or drummers. I grew up listing to Lombardo develop his technique to become the drummer he is today. I myself have been playing since the early age of four, as my father was a pro jazz drummer and was one of the lucky one's. 50 years experience..... Louis Bellson was the first drummer to pioneer twin bass drums. He was a jazz drummer. The World of Rock owes a lot to Jazz it appears. It'd be cool for you lads to appreciate this.

Ronnie Owens people are filled with biased opinions which drives me nuts, simply because they hate metal they think that metal musicians are shit often commenting shit like "but can he play a swing beat?" I see that same comment all the time, just to clarify the answer is most likely yes. But than metal fans who hate jazz, blues (etc) say the same stupid shit like "but can he play a blast beat" or just think that musics easy because it's not 260bpm. If all music sounded the same like these elitists complain they want than it would no longer be a passion of mine. On a side note i often think about what music would be like and how much more Bonhams drumming would have improved if he never died considering he still had another solid 25-30 years of playing in him.

Just goes to show, this jam is 10x harder than a lot of the faster stuff he usually plays (and make no mistake, I love riot music). Shows the biggg difference in musicianship between someone like Dave and someone like Portnoy or Marco Minnemann.

Oh, and now people are not allowed to comment on other drummers? the biggest/greatest drummers can only be viewed as Gods and can do nothing wrong? Come on man....I am a drummer myself, far not as good as Dave Lombardo of course...but that has nothing to do with it. If Chris Cornell (RIP) sings not in he right tune, you would still say he's the greatest (in that very moment)? Come on. People are always allowed to give their comments...Arguments, thats what it is about. Not if you're a better instrumentalist.

Erwin van der Laan the term isn't so of being the "greatest" that night but simply if they entertained you or if they did they're best or not that night. If not, hopefully they can win you back next time. One doesn't mean all and many years of powerful drumming doesn't equate to a musician "now sucking".

Lombardo is a beast, however, it just goes to show how far ahead of the pack John Bonham was and still is...it's all about feel and no one had better feel than Bonzo...or Zeppelin for that matter.

I actually get why some people can't hear the "soul" from Dave's playing, even though it was spot on. It's that the bass sounds low to the viewer, compared to the bass on the album (I'm not saying this is the bass player's fault- it's probably just the recording, or maybe the mic-ing, since they wanted to emphasize the drums.) The bass is what adds atmosphere to Zep's drumming, and then the guitar and vox built on top of them.
