In the late 90s early 2000s slayer were on the decline , record sales were lower with each album after divine intervention , the god hates us all album did better than expected but still nothing like the sales were when dave lombardo was in the band . Slayer live shows were no longer in 15/20,000 seater arenas , they were perfoming in big clubs and theatres , 2000 to 4000 on average , when paul quit in 2001 and slayers management managed to convince dave to help them finish the god hates us all tour as soon as people saw dave ticket sales were suddenley selling out in seconds , slayer had to add extra dates , dave finished that tour on the premis that he was just helping out for a chunk of change , however ,kerry ,jeff and tom all liked having dave back , he lit a fire in the band again , they went onto do the still reigning tour ,big four etc etc , dave was the reason slayer had a second wind from 2001 to 2013, the way they screwed him over again was dispicable , and it made the farewell tour a mockery of what real slayer was , im glad that daves out there performing with suicidal, testament, dead cross,mr bungle , THE MISFITS and putting out his solo album while kerry eats donuts and gets fat .

I love Dave but you can't put their resurregance in popularity all down to him. Rock and metal saw a spike in popularity in the mid 00's after a down period. Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, AC/DC all became bigger than they'd ever been. Metal festivals like Wacken became massive

@@mikeynoclass8240 I get what you are saying , however I looked into this in 2001 when Dave agreed to come back ,and continued to look at all records and information I could get my hands , the god hates us all album was slayers best selling cd with Paul bostaph on it since divine intervention , the sakes for g.h.u.a were mediocre at best , when people found out that Dave was back on stage with slayer ( at that time on a temporary basis just to help them finish that tour ) venues that had sold around 60 to 75 % of tickets were suddenly sold out ( bare in mind slayer were playing small theatres and clubs 2000 to 5000 at that time ) all over the world venues that had many tickets left that sat there for months were suddenly sold out , after the initial tour dates ( booked while bostaph was in the band ) came to an end slayer's management booked a whole extra 12 months going around the world but playing in small arenas 10 to 17000 again , then that finished they did the still reigning tour where they played 5 classics and then the entire reign in blood album in full , every show was sold out , then they did their first album with Dave , took it on tour , did the big 4 , then wrote another album took that on tour , and the numbers kept rising .

Lots of hyperbole in the comments but one actually backs it up with figures and statistics. All I can say is the best Slayer show I was ever at was night 2 at the Ambassador theatre, Dublin in June 2005 (I missed the first night because I couldn't get the time off work, but I digress). It was the classic lineup and included a goosebumps inducing drum solo leading into Show No Mercy from Dave.

In my opinion he's just pacing himself , if this was on the still reigning tour( pretty sure it is by looking at his kit and the clothes he's wearing ) then this song was early on in the set , they did maybe ten of the classics then played the whole reign in blood album from start to finish , he talks about learning to pace himself in some interviews .
