Will never see TV like this again...😢
They just don't make t.v. like this anymore. I miss this era ❤

My mum use to say this 40 years ago!
It's amazing that I'm watching this clip on the 36th anniversary of the 982nd episode of Late Night. Truly a magical moment.
I remember when a pack of broccoli was that big. And I could afford it.

You can’t afford broccoli? It’s like $1-2.

@@craigcampbell1843 Maybe I exaggerated a bit. As a matter of fact, it's been a while since I bought fresh broccoli. Last time I did they were like $5 (Canadian $) for a small bundle. Maybe the are back to a more reasonable price now... I don't know.

Yeah, but Dave put the oranges on sale just like that! Just with the power of his personality. 📽️🍿📽️
Nowadays, you go live to the supermarket with those LiveU backpacks (which uses cellular technology to transmit back to the studio) or your phone.
Seems like a pretty limp crowd that night.

Better a limp crowd than a limp host.
It’s wild how little supermarkets have changed in the grand scheme of things.

Dave was must watch TV during this period, as he aged the show became tame

The NBC period was the best, 1982 to 1993. He had more freedom at 12:35 am eastern. But, there were some exceptions, like the hidden camera stuff with Rupert at CBS.
"And what did we do with the $4,000, Paul? Passed on the savings to the TV viewers."
Why does Biff look older in '88 then later on

He went gray. Once he shaved his head, he looked considerably younger.
Is this the Morton Williams store that stands on 68th & Broadway in 2024?

Damn paper and plastic at the same time!

Those were the days before paper bags had handles. That's why the plastic made it easier to carry.

And now we have reusable shopping bags, which hold more (especially the heavy stuff).

It is pretty brave to post up a bit that fell flat all the way through.
THANK GOD FOR THIS SUB! This is the best entertainment and belly laughs I’ve had in a long while! I rarely watch tv any more it’s just so dang boring. Basically just watch KZread Subs now. I miss Letterman and Craig Ferguson soooo much!
Paper and plastic, fancy.
What year was this from Don?

They did seem pretty cool for 1988.
Actually those prices are similar to what things run now.

Dave trying desperately (and failing) to whip more comedy out of this lame segment was more entertaining than anyone in the supermarket.

You could tell he KNEW that the whole idea was going in the dumper. That along with the Ozzie polishing the car wearing a tie bit, lol

10,000, yikes a hootie.
Devilish move Letterman, always a bit of a provocateur. Out of all those fruits and vegetables, it was a cucumber you had the woman slip into the wrapper. You knew the censors were too dull-witted to catch it, but not me, Letterman. Not me.
