Good old Dave Allen RIP!
Loved dave Allan ❤️
Great memories of yesteryear!!
I remember staying up late on Sunday nights in the eighties when I was still in school to watch him or Benny Hill or Monty Python, followed by Doctor Who. We'd all tell his jokes to each other on Monday.

I am always late because of him 🤣🤪
What an extraordinary artist! We didn't have the privilege to watch him during communist Romania 🇹🇩. I don't know why, I have watched scores of gems like this for the last few months and never seen anything against that hated system of the 70s and 80s. We owe you big, Dave Allen. 💕 from 🇹🇩.
Greatest show of all time.
Fond memories ❤️❤️
Genius !
observe the lid of a boiling kettle eh! Dave Allen is great!
Love Dave Allen! 🍀☘☘
Very good show! 🍺😎👍
What a Joy
Someone please explain the court joke to me….. it’s cleverness went over my head I’m not afraid to admit

Well, if Bury can be pronounced Berry, then jury can be pronounced jerry, so the jurors could be sitting on the jerry, or toilet.
Love this guy
Humour out of the top draw! What's missing?? Punch lines are right on the money. The stories are every day happenin's. The language is so descriptive and so funny! So what is missing-----------!??. There's no swearing at all!!! And yet the audiance laughs until the tears run. Swearing is such a lazy, unnecessary way to get to a punch line. Language has an immense vocabularly and can be far more descriptive than swearinging at every 2nd word. It does add variety to the story to add the odd swear word here and there to emphasise a point or two. Dave Allen has a tremendous grip on his vocabularly and all understand his stories.

True what you say, BUT, Dave was a massive swearer in his live shows, and in his everyday life, so it's not because he's so intelligent that he doesn't swear on his At Large shows; it's because it wasn't allowed.
Awesome
I love the priest jokes and actually I had a wonderful priest who was a great golfer. He used to dread getting a hole in one cos he had to ‘ get the drinks in’ !!!
The sound on the later sketches is increasingly out of sync which spoils them I'm afraid.
I enjoyed this show as a pre teen. I remember one of the opening sketches. It involved Dave Allen, driving a car. This was set to the James Bond theme music. I don't know which episode, or what season. Any ideas.

Dave Allen was loved in the whole western world, but hated and banned in Ireland!!! What a genius! He´s missed...
RIP
Audio screwed up.
What is the music at scene 30:41? They used that in the Sweeney, same era, too :)
Genius, although I didn't remember how 'sketch-laden' and 'joke-laden' his early shows were. He was a 'raconteur par excellence', which his excellent monologues (diatribe?) on the later ITV shows in the early 90s, after a brief semi-retirement from TV, amply illustrate. However, he was not so unique at the time; think Billy Connolly and Mike Harding in the early seventies. Just as funny but without the TV exposure until much later.

I tend to disagree as Dave was in his own class. Billy was fantastic to start, but the more he resorted to vulgar language and crude jokes, the more I lost respect for him. Swearing all the time is not how you make good comedy in my opinion. Billy's reliance on vulgarity got to the point where I couldn't stand him anymore.

This was made in 1971. I guess £18.18 would have gone a long way back then.

That could have been £18 and 18s, 18 guineas. Decimalisation had only just occurred, switching from l s d.
Synchronisation betrayed him @32:50 haha

The sound is out of sync with the talking with about 20mins left !

Great Irish man and comic genius r.i.p
I was never a fan of the “At Large” series with the silly sketches, that began in the 70s. Allen’s forte was his simple conversational comedy delivery, as in previous TV series.

What were the tv series previous to At Large? I know there was one called Inside the Mind if Dave Allen, but I don't think that was ever broadcast for some reason.
