Can I ask you something? I find it so fascinating that Dave only lived in Ireland for the first 19 yrs of his life, and then lived in England for the next 49 years, and yet, such was the influence, the pull, the strength of the Irish culture, that he always came across as being 100 % Irish ( and his mother was English! ) You'd think that with an English mother, and a relatively short part of his life lived in Ireland, he'd have more of an affinity with England, yet it seems he did not. Can you please explain this?!?

He's hilarious. Dave Allan was brilliant.

Gorgeous talented man

Throughout the 1980's, Dave Allen At Large was shown on Chicago's PBS station, channel 11 WTTW. It was on at 10:30 Sunday nights, right after Monty Python and right before Doctor Who. I loved staying up late Sunday nights to watch those shows.

The theme song alone is worth the price of admission. These shows bring back so many memories. Great stuff. Dave is missed but never forgotten.

Dave Allen was a favorite comedian growing up. I love that I found these!

Having just come back from a weekend in Ireland I can say this , firstly the Irish are the most welcoming of people, there food is brilliant, the countryside breathtaking and there humour as dry as a vodka martini, there dry wit is brilliant and I had a complete crack there. Dave Allen , a comic genius and the humour and satire are like a fine wine they get better with age 👍

This is great!!! Haven't seen these in 40 years. A very funny man.The funniest skit is when he was stranded on a desert Island. Don't want to ruin it for you.

One of the greats

Dave Allen was shown on PBS in the US, which allowed us Canadians (at least those in southwestern Ontario) to see it. There was nothing else like it. I was young, 13 or 14 at the time, and can't say I understood a lot of the references he made, he was so different from say, Carson, but Dave was sharp as hell and a superb story teller.

I have to admit, I loved that short rhyme when I was a kid, and still do. As I was walking up the stair, I met a man who wasn't there, He wasn't there again today, I wish that man would go away.

As Irish Catholic’s my mam and da wouldn’t allow us kids to watch this blasphemy as they called it, we still managed to watch him behind closed doors lol.😉here we are in 2022 and I’m laughing my head off, god bless you Dave Allen you surely are missed 🇮🇪

These shows and the man himself were brilliant. I remember them from back in the days where they were originally aired and just stumbled upon them here again. I just love the train sketch at 30 min. Dave cant suppress his enjoyment with the sketch. Thanks for posting these shows.

I'm so happy for these videos being uploaded to be easily watched - thank you!!! I searched for "Irish comedian with missing finger" and there he was - Dave Allen! I remember watching him on TV in the 70's with my parents - he had the rare talent of being table to tell funny tales while holding your attention - and the sweetest smile. And I also miss the "good ole' days" when you could smoke and drink on TV (and sometimes get tipsy) in freedom. Dave Allen, the Dean Martin roasts - people had fun with each other back then. Thanks again.

Oh, yes .. "Sunday afternoon" show of Zagreb Television 😁 ...Watched regularly in Belgrade.

The 70's were Comedy Gold just B4 all the 'wowzer' movements began. Everyone knew each night which shows were next. These days there's Zero.

As a practising catholic myself who loathes the institution that is the Catholic Church, I just LOVE Dave Allen’s jokes about the Catholic Church ! The confessional box one is a real corker ! Actually, man wasn’t made in God’s likeness, it’s woman who was, as the basic mammalian template is FEMALE so infact figuratively speaking Adam was created from Eve’s rib ! @@Turrican60 Well, we’re created by the sum of our genes of course, but I remember the study of identical twins reared together or reared apart from my studies in psychology which then inform the ‘ nature’ v ‘ nurture’ debate. And of course it’s the fascination with identical twins which led to the dreadful experiments of that SATAN Joseph Mengala in Auschwitz concentration camp. I sure hope there is a God, cos he should rot in HELL.

True about the Female gender being the template and it makes sense as to why women are more discerning, have better dexterity, are naturally more enterprising without interference and more likely to stick around and provide for their children, have a better moral compass generally speaking, nor are women prone to the destruction of others or self destruction either, etc etc.. nor are they prone to the idiocy of assuming and bullying others for as much responsibility as possible, (E.g, financial), but then whining of having to carry all the responsibility and having to share 'their' money, (if it hasn't all been spent on alcohol and other rubbish first, before any food for their children), not my situation, but certainly a typical y chromosome issue for many. How interesting it is that Dave Allen was and is so offensive to many Catholics as you have mentioned. Institutions that discourage opinions or thorough questioning and worse, can't easily withstand humour, are the epitome of.. (feel free to fill in the blank).

Dave Allen, my Irish anti depressant. A man who observed life and talked about it, and the fact that he got up the Catholic church's nose made him all the more popular to the young teens in Ireland at the time.

I loved watching hom.

As an Aussie I can honestly say that Dave is spot on in what he says 😂 I 🥲😂😂pissed myself laughing back then, and now it’s the same. Especially sex and religion 😂😂🙏❤️❤️

The joke about how Australians talk was basically copied by Dylan Moran at one of his shows. There was definitely a big influence on him by Dave Allen even in the manor isms used by both of them

I remember one episode, two groups of christian bishops or whatever sparred a joust match in a field. Just off the wall funny for then and now

I think that the torpedo in the toilet has been cut. I seem to remember a man walking into the booth before the explosion.
