Wrong on both accounts, on the actual show this is from she says that the band came up with this groove during the rehearsals for the tour and Erykah wrote the lyrics pretty much right there and then, they had been playing that song for a couple of months as the tour went on. You can tell by the band knowing exactly where the breaks are, it sounds simply too rehearsed to be freestyled. AND on the "Baduizm live" album is a studio version of this song, which has an extra verse.

YESSSSSSSSSSS She should've BEEN on that. I raised my son on Erykah, Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse, Corrinne Bailey Rae... just to name a few. I LOVED her reaction!! Good job mama!!

If you like spoken word with song, before Miss Badu was Dana Bryant. As far as recent fiyah, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Tank and the Bangas. "Nice Things" is a good introduction to their music. Carl Hancock Rux also has some deep stuff, it's not Top 40 pop music fare, but he's an extremely talented brother.
