I really liked this podcast topics. The trajectory of gaming is very... Interesting right now... I think it's absolutely a bummer how much predatory tactics are used to continue the cycle of pushing out the unfinished games like what Fruit was talking about, or to push you over that mental barrier to have you fall into a predatory tactic to spend money. It's so weird thinking about where and how gaming will evolve since it feels like so many things have been covered, and there's just this kind of homogeneity of pushing out the safe, yet unfinished bets. I don't see AAA games evolving or changing drastically, but I do see that in indie games, like with Pizza Tower for example.

I wish, but unfortunately I just don't have the cash to fund anything. Plus - the game that I could realistically create (and the one I want to make the most) would be a far departure from what people would expect but the idea I have is for about a ~3-4 hour narrative driven action/puzzle game

The transition from Division 1 Patch 1.4 to the release of Division 2 was too fast and the game changed *way to much* over the course of that time and made it feel so bad to play. Division 2 Beta was a blast, however the hype died off fast once I owned the game.

I always thought of an Engine as like the foundation, framework and like the cables and pipes of a house. So you build your walls upon the foundation, build your house, decorate and what not. And then you wanna change the pipes and make them better, sturdier or whatever. You gonna have to break a whole bunch of stuff to replace your pipes and then fix what you've broken after you done the pipework. Which leaves you with new and better pipes, but it's gonna have at the very least faint marks left after you rebuilt it. Maybe this is just a bongcloud take though, cos I don't actually know lmao

I love when single player, single story games have a good amount of replay-ability. Cyberpunk is a good example; a bunch of different and unique builds, play styles etc. Live services are tough-but a good single player story game if it’s good enough, can keep me entertained almost as much; if not more.

It's funny hearing them talk about battle pass and season pass fatigue because I was just going through that. Grinded to finish the D2 Season pass just to rush and finish the CoD season pass in the last 2 weeks before today when the new Pass comes out just to grind that for the next 9 days before Dead Island and Jedi Survivor comes out after. There just isn't time to grind as much anymore

I found a couple of bits really interesting here. 1: It seems as games push to be more live service, they strain the relationship with the hardcore audience (looking at you Destiny), BUT they also push away people who would be defined as casual in so far as they don't commit to one game, they play on something of a rotation of games. Specifically with Blue's point ab battle passes, I only buy the pass in Destiny these days, whereas I used to buy maybe 3 or 4 different passes across different games I just don't feel as motivated these days to get some skins and emotes. 2: I have to disagree with Blue about Bungie pushing social issues (in the game) as a good thing. Stories as long as humans could communicate have been a way of escaping the troubles and stresses and controversies of the day, to allow one reprieve, to escape to a world of fantasy, and live in those stories, those places. Gaming takes it to a whole new level, in that now, instead of just being a bystander, you, (and by extension anyone who joins you) can truly experience the world of a story in a whole new manner. To take a world that wasn't afflicted with these particular issues and artificially inject them seems hollow. That's not to say you can't make a quality story based around social issues, BUT there is a large difference between genuinely toiling with a complicated issue by seeing multiple views through different characters, and just tossing "THE MESSAGE" in after the fact for whatever reason, it seems disingenuous. As always fantastic pod chaps, looking forward to the next.

2 is such a gigantic L, escaping from what? black people? all art is inherently political, nothing wrong with bungie wanting to make their stories actually mean something

  • @pixelomega3042

    @pixelomega3042

    Жыл бұрын

@@dankerbell While political issues and social issues often overlap, they aren't the same thing. Timeless classics that focus on social issues (in this instance I'm thinking of pre 2000's Star Trek, Star Wars tackled its fair share of issues) present these genuinely difficult and complex issues with (for lack of a better term) a form of moral ambiguity. As though it's not the job of the storyteller to force their opinion on the narrative, rather, the narrative is used as a vessel to explore the issue in detail. Contrasting that to modern stories, where writers a majority of the time use a narrative to push specifically their point of view without an option to have that sort of discussion through the narrative. It's almost as though they aren't confident enough in their own interpretation of the world and how it should function cannot be tested in this way. Tying this back into Bungie and Destiny, the Bungie writers haven't been incredibly socially active in the Destiny narrative until maybe Shadowkeep at the earliest, (not to say anything about the company out of the game, as they have been champions for many causes outside of their games). The point being, this is all disingenuous, for example from Lightfall, Nimbus' pronouns were added in at the 11th hour. It wasn't an idea that was part of the early concept for the character, and that little piece of info is LITERALLY just to fill a diversity and inclusivity quota. Bungie's stories do mean lots of things, but to say that adding bits like this is making the story mean more or have more gravitas is simply not true.

As someone with over 4000 hours in Escape from Tarkov, as well as 2000+ on D2, I would love to chat with Datto and explain to him why EFT is, even as busted and broken as it is, and always will be, one of the best experiences in gaming. Tarkov, unlike Destiny, isn't about the loot, it isn't about the weapons, the gear, or anything "tangible" within the game. It's about those pure, visceral moments where your adrenaline is pumping IRL, your fight or flight instincts have kicked in, and you're so focused on just surviving the next few minutes that nothing else in the world matters. I play D2 to relax. I find the grind to be almost therapeutic, (although I really wish the content wasn't so easy these days), it's great to unwind from serious gaming.

Not quite old enough for the classics, but old enough to remember the time before literally constant updates needing to be downloaded and glitches or bugs ruining a game. The whole thing with how every multiplayer game is now a live service game is why I have just stopped playing most multiplayer games. The only one I really play consistently is Deep Rock Galactic and while it has a battle pass there it truly does feel like an extra thing and not the main progression path because you can get so much stuff from just playing missions. I also don’t play Deep Rock to get stuff I just play it because it’s really fun for me to play. For the most part multiplayer games just aren’t fun anymore because they’re all battle passes and trying to get you to sink a bunch of time into them. I went from someone who spent 90% of their gaming time playing multiplayer games (mainly destiny) from 2014 - fall 2021 to spending 90% of my time playing single player games now because they don’t feel they want to suck up all my time to get my money. The single player games know they already have my money so they try to give me the best experience possible so I’ll give them money for their next game and as a result I find that now I can sink far more time into a short (meaning 10-20 hour main path) single player game than any multiplayer game

I gotta agree on Fortnite’s content pace being problematic for other games, It became a large problem for itself at one point too. I wanna say it was like the 4 season post pandemic they spread a few items across a couple big updates and all the map changes on day one of the new season. Fortunately, they were smart and had a few seasons where they went big and then slowed the pace back to that (because it’s less stressful on devs). But man that content pace with bi-weekly small map changes and large seasonal ones, it was definitely a problem

ARR is just rough as far as getting acclimatized to the game. It drags. As someone who's been playing since 2013, I can say that the only reason the game hooked me back then was that it was my first MMO and I was just so receptive to everything. Was interested in the world, was interested in the characters, the jobs, the story, etc... But having gone through ARR for a second time many years later, yeah... I can see why it would turn people off. All that said, my brain checks out whenever I'm listening to X or Y podcast in which XIV is brought up and people say they skipped the story. I feel like I've heard people's reasoning for doing so... so many times that I just kinda shrug. The story of the game is something I highly value in the game, it being one of the very few games in which I feel sorta lukewarm on the gameplay but will play it for the story.

Full game videos were just 90% watching people run to the circle and grab loot, 10% bloom infested gunplay. It wasn't something I watched, so I didn't watch Mr fruits BR videos. I never left comments about how I hated it because it was popular, I just didn't like the games. I love your content mr fruit and I know it didn't pull in views, ad revenue, or increase your growth back then, but I appreciate the content you made then. It was a funny and great time for the channel.

As a guy pushing 50 who had an Atari 2600 at 5yrs old, hearing Datto say he’s seen everything at 33 and is an old man now is - cute. Just wait until you get to my age boys. I would kill to be 33 again. So much less daily pain. Enioy your age. Live in the moment. ❤

as a D2 / FFXIV dual gamer: You fucked yourself by skipping Datto. The only way that game hooks you upfront is the story strength. Sad, but its not for everyone. As for the "best hamburger ever"..... I thought the same until I played FFXIV until the end of Shadowbringers. I thought I saw all the best RPGs, best stories.... And FFXIV ShB topped them all. I witnessed the best RPG with best story ever after I was certain I was never gonna see anything better than Mass Effect 2 or Icewind Dale.

it's true, if you don't give the story a chance or enjoy it then theirs not much there and honestly if you go in with a pure gaming standpoint and 0 intent on consuming the story then you're just straight up doing it wrong

I think the problem with me is every game just seems like a copy and paste. There is hardly anything different but just the same copy and paste method.

if destiny had raids every season, this game would have twice as many active players. to be told that people would complain about the absence of battlefields and other seasonal things, it disgusts me. only a casual gamer would prefer content like battlefields over a raid. a raid takes more money and time to make, not some stupid mode thrown around the planets.

I don't buy silver because I don't feel like my money is getting put back into making the game better. Destiny 2 is so lacking in content that getting more than a couple maps a year is too much. On the other hand, I spend money in Deep Rock Galactic because I feel like my money is helping.

31:10 No, the point in Destiny is to get the gear, and then take it into PvP. Division attempted to do that as well, but let's be honest, PvP modes in looter shooters are poor quality, and only Destiny has been able to crack that nut. It needs to be on par with Destiny, otherwise it will fail. The while LOVE service model will fail if PvP is not included, or is garbage. Watch Naughty Dog and see how they implement their next PvP game for TLOU fans. They MAY have figured it out...

Lightfall is so far one of the worst expansions I’ve ever played it has made the game almost unplayable where I used to play 6+hours a day most days and play damn near every day of the week i now play 1 day a week if I can even stand to do that because of how boring and stale this season has been.

Destiny isn't growing because NOTHING CHANGES. We have literally been fighting the same enemies on the same planets for like a decade. And don't say oh but Neptune is new or whatever. Oh yeah they added a big empty city. And oh tormentors are new. Oh yeah big enemies you have to shoot the shoulders of then the belly. Oh wow sooooo new and innovative. But but but there is strand you know the new subclass that freezes enemies in place. You mean like stasis? No. It's totally different the enemies can hip fire and they hang in place forever. Got it.

to add onto this, tormentors are basically non existent in a large amount of the gameplay, I saw em in story missions and that's basically it, same with lucent Hive, practically no presence anywhere

No. Not every game wants your attention forever. Good games want to be played to bring in money to create new games. Destiny wants you to play the same stupid game forever. Ok I'm done with this trash episode. Never listened to a podcast but saw it and gave it a try because I love fruit and I tolerate Datto. Blue sucks. This talk sucks. Ok bye.
