A few years ago, a tornado flattened a Starbucks. The video shot from a restaurant from across the street showed the Starbucks going down like a movie set facade, despite how substantial the building looked. Keyword there is "looked". I've seen a hotel that looked like it had thick solid concrete columns out front you'd think could stand up to a nuclear bomb. Then a hurricane hit and those columns turned out to be some of the cheapest wooden construction imaginable. Nothing but hollow cylinders made out of stucco, plywood, and wood framing. The equally solid looking but flimsy overhang those columns supported ripped apart and fell down on and wrecked several vehicles owned by storm chasers who were filming the hurricane.

This is from a MSN article: Tri Tran 70 captured harrowing dashcam footage of a powerful tornado sweeping through a Lincoln, Nebraska parking lot and taking out an entire building on April 26, 2024. According to KOLN, the building belonged to Garner Industries and of the 70 workers inside, only three were injured and are expected to recover.

This is why you don't stay in the car if you're going to be hit by a tornado. FFS don't hide under bridges either.
