I’ve seen so much racism and sexism in my culture. Only now that I am older, I am able to look into the past and understand what happened and why the Mexican people were brought into this world. And as I began researching and understanding what colonization is and my native and indigenous people were wiped out and raped just as the enslaved Africans that were stolen from their homeland. But I look at myself as a Mexican American, and as an ally to all that don’t have a voice.

I'm glad you are doing the work and not letting far right-wing propagandists dictate how you interact with your people.

Definitely a lot of cultures have different levels of sexism, or levels of the patriarchy. Like from a Mexican culture women are seen as submissive, take care of children and not do what they want like their goals, and be emotionally available for everyone, ect..

I’ll never understand it - this doesn’t even touch the surface of Anti Blackness in the Latin community. It’s so crazy to me

Speaking as a Latino Americans. I don't understand why Americans kept saying that Latinos are anti black. Pretty much half the Latino population is mixed race , and the USA mixed race population is about 15%.

@@godzillamegatron3590 That doesn't mean they still are not anti-Black. Of course, not all of them are, but it exists, especially in the mixed race population.

@@kl.8992 I disagree. In my opinion. USA born Americans are projecting their view of racism on Latin America. We choose our nationality over race. And we love to race mix. In Cuba, Dominican republic the majority population are mixed race. Panamanians are proud to be black, and afro Columbians, and afro Venezuela have strong black communities.

@@godzillamegatron3590 That isn't true - I've seen it first hand. Latin Americans being Trump supporters, at the least, tells you all you need to know.

@@godzillamegatron3590 You can disagree all you want, but you'd be wrong. You are correct that MOST of Latinidad do choose nationality over race, and and there are several strong Afro communities in latin America, however have you ever stop to understand the how and why latin people choose nationality over race? When you dig into it, it will always come back as some version of white supremacy or anti-blackness. Also, when talking about existing power structures and representation, until maybe in this last decade, whiteness was the only public facing expression that was available. All accurate historical information supports this viewpoint.

Very true. As an American born Mexican Latino in Los Angeles, I have family members who are Trump supporters that no surprise are the unpleasant and racist personalities. We have to do better as people.
