Dash Cam Drive along the Emerald Coast in Panama City Beach, Florida

TRANSCRIPT
Panama City Beach is a resort town located the Florida Panhandle on the eastern edge of what is known as the Emerald Coast. The city was once known as a spring break haven, so much so that MTV broadcast live from Panama City Beach on several occasions, specifically broadcasting from the legendary Club LaVela. Hurricane Michael in 2018 severely damaged Club LaVela and has been closed since the storm. The beach, much like the rest of the Emerald Coast beaches, are known for their sugar white sands, a result of quartz from the Appalachian Mountains washing down the Chattahoochee and Apalachicola Rivers. While being carried down those rivers, the quartz crystals were bleached, ground, smoothed and polished, resulting in some of the most picturesque beaches found anywhere in the world.
I’m Michael Miller and it’s time for a dash cam drive around Panama City Beach at sunset on Dash Cam Drives!
Our drive starts on southbound Florida State Route 79 as we enter the city limits. We turn right onto Westbound US route 98, otherwise known as Panama City Beach Parkway. We go in and out of the Panama City Beach City Limits, as well as unincorporated Laguna Beach. At Carillon Beach, we turn left on Front Beach Road, back towards the east. Along the way, we also pass through Unincorporated Sunnyside and Santa Monica, before reentering Panama City Beach. Next, we drive through Pier Park, Panama City Beach’s premier shopping area. Here there are many mainstream places to shop, such as Target, Marshall’s and Dillards, but there are also tourist oriented shopping and dinning as well, such as Margaritaville, Dick’s Last Resort, Ron John’s Surf Shop and Build-a-bear. Back on Front Beach Road, we pass Gulf World Marine Park and numerous go cart tracks and mini golf courses. We leave the beachfront temporarily as Beach Front Road heads inland towards the Hathaway Bridge and Panama City. We turn right onto Thomas Drive, but not before passing Ripley’s Believe It or Not, shaped like a sinking Titanic Ocean Liner and Wonder Works, with it’s well known upside down building. Once on Thomas Drive, we rejoin the beach front and pass the location of the now closed Club LaVela. Close to the end of our drive, Thomas Drive makes a sudden turn north away from the beach close to the entrance of St. Andrews State Park. We cross the Grand Lagoon and pass three Military Facilities: US Coast Guard Station Panama City, US Naval Diving & Salvage Training Center and the Naval Surface Warfare Center. Our drive ends as we arrive at US Route 98 and Front Beach Drive.

Great video. My family and I went to Panama City Beach July 2023. It was hot and humid but we still had a great time. We love it there. I can hardly wait to go back. Thank you for this video. ❤

PCB is one of our favorite beaches! We live in SC and would much rather drive to Florida for much needed beach time! Actually getting ready to leave for Florida this Friday, but heading to Manasota Key, just south of Venice. Still on the Gulf Coast, though! My next Florida video, in a little over a month, will be of the famous Route 30A through Seaside, Seagrove and Rosemary Beach, which is very close to PCB and next time you go, be sure to check that area out. It's absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for watching!!!!
