Well, perhaps here is a strange story to tell. After Tobruk had been retaken, Our Aussie Brothers sang "Po Kare kare-ana" in Maori to us, and in reply, the Kiwis (ANZAC, as ARE the Aussies) Sang "Waltzing Matilda" both of which were regarded as being MORE than the National Anthem of Australia, just as "Now is the Hour" and "E Hine E" (or, ' Hine E hine' {how the Song/Lullaby is titled depends upon where you come-from in NZ}) are regarded as being MORE than the National Anthem of New Zealand. Curiously, none of the 'Official Histories' record this, in either Nation. Yet it remains that I have been gifted this information by both Australians and New Zealanders who were present at that time. Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell, Proud grandson of an original ANZAC, NZ.

I heard a recorded version of Waltzing Matilda for military band decades ago up in Banff. I don't know if it was a British, Australian or Canadian Band. It was the best I had ever heard. This version is pretty weak. Somewhere there exists a top-notch military band version in some British or Australian band library that was written probably somewhere between 1900 and 1940 which is going to waste while this second rate versions are being used.
