Darts World Championship 1980 Final Bristow vs George

Keep an eye on Bristow's technique: It looks like he's telling himself "looooseyy gooseyy" while his limbs bob like floating swans.

I remember watching this final live and then going down the local after, for the £3 a man entry knock out. I won £35 my teammates won £20 and £10 respectively. I played for Surrey county. I was only 20. Youngest player for years until Ritchie showed up and boy could he play. Oh and we had a little known player nicknamed the Limestone Cowboy aka Bob Anderson.

What was great about darts back then is that the world championships were just club darts ++. A couple of guys who took to throwing arrows before going to the chip shop and then heading home. If a player now made a joke in his opponent’s face and then kissed him then it would lead the news. Bobby George is probably thinking, “yeah, whatever, just go and get the round in, I’m parched.”

Davis and then Henry changed how players played snooker. The tables now are so much better. Not sure what really changed about darts to make the difference in the standard today. There’s a lot more work involved in fundamentals of snooker.

He was good in his days won most although John Lowe and Jocky Wilson stopped him inbetween times . Jocky Wilson came on the scene late in life from around 1978/9 . I met Jocky three times and asked him how he got along with Eric Bristow to which Jocky replied he liked Eric and just on oche both tried win alike a Scotland v England thing ..And away from the oche had good banter, and got along well he said with Eric . Rip to both them greats in the game of Darts they are so much missed .

@@kiekiek It would be interesting, wouldn't it? Bristow in his prime would've been more than a match for any of today's players because of his mind games and mental toughness. There's that time when Eric was playing Jocky up in Scotland and one of the crowd threw a full can of beer at Eric's head which only just missed. He carried on without batting an eye and went on to win the match. Can you imagine some of today's players in the same situation? Gerwyn Price couldn't even handle the crowd heckling him let alone throwing full cans of beer at his head. Dude fell to pieces and went and put ear defenders on ffs! 🎧😂.
