Dartmoor is one of my favourite walking destinations. Probably as I consider Dartmoor to have two very different faces; beautiful and scenic in the sun, barren and hostile in the rain - and if you've ever done Dartmoor in a thunderstorm, it's like walking across Mordor (minus the orcs). Great vid as always Abbie. I'm nothing short of amazed at how much you seem to know about the areas you're exploring. I've walked on the Moor on various occasions but could not give anywhere near as much info

Abbie, I had to comment, in the last 3 months since I've found you from watching your WHW vlog multiple times with my family (in prep for our hike there next Easter) and since practically watching all your other videos going from newest to oldest with my kids (we love them all & you inspire us all). I can't help but notice how amazing you look now, your happiness radiates through you, your eyes shine bright & you appear just genuinely happy & excited to be doing what you love. Some of your old, old, old vlogs (while are still utterly amazing & have us hooked) I can't help but notice a strain in your eyes which I assume is the mental health side effects (been there, done that & got my own tshirt), either that or you've found an amazing eye & face cream which you should share as I need this uplifting face lift for myself. Although I assume it's just that you are on top & living your best life & sharing the highlights with us lucky viewers. Thank you for encouraging us, for telling your story & inspiring us to get out there & explore our lovely country. XXX

I've just discovered you after doing a search for 'walking on Dartmoor' (a) because I needed some new, interesting videos to watch while on the indoor turbo trainer when I can't get out on my bike and (b) because we've just returned (back to Yorkshire) from a week of walking on Dartmoor (we must have walked thousands of miles on Dartmoor over the years - we even had our honeymoon on Dartmoor, in the winter, and my son cut his walking teeth on Dartmoor where we carried him in a backpack for miles before he was old enough to walk Dartmoor himself.). I clicked through onto your website after reading the comment below on mental health as we are no strangers to mental health struggles. My son works in mental health and had an eating disorder as a teen and I have mental health issues, too - so discovering your KZread channel and website is really great and so inspiring - I will be sending a link to my son as I know he'll be interested in your Dartmoor videos and mental health info. I'm back on Dartmoor later this month, this time with my bicycle. Dartmoor is so very good for the soul.

Abbie it was so nice to see you back walking on your own, Dartmoor has those nasty memories for me back in the early 80’s when I joined the Royal Navy and we had to spend a weekend on Dartmoor as part of our training, it was the winter, snow on the ground and I burnt my hand on a mess tin, it was great to see you enjoying the area, I have a very good friend who owns a pub in Meavy, you have done it again and inspired me this time to go and enjoy the beauty of Dartmoor, I also love the little clip on map reading as I have not got a clue how to read one. I used to live in Plymouth and walked on Dartmoor every day. I miss it so much and can't wait until I can move back to the South West.

I have been there,but not for a long hike lol. Beautiful place abbey..thanks for taking us a along. Mind cows ..they can chase you and attack at times.

Be careful when the ground wobbles; blanket bog can be deep. Thirty some years ago I watched a friend plunge through up to his chest; it took three of us to pull him clear. Best strategy is to back off slowly and carefully.

@Myth Tree I’ve come across them at Blackbrook Head and Avon Head in the last couple of years plus a small shallow one near Lydford Tor. We used to call them quakers; I’d guess that they come and go as water flow and level changes.

Little tip for pointing out a spot on the map . Use a blade of grass . Makes it so much clearer when showing features etc to people. In the military fingers are a no no hahaha . Great vids by the way keep em coming :)

So far yes but who knows? The South west is a low infection zone so is relatively free at present.

Superb, I did much of this route just over a month ago, really loved it. I had one bad night on Ingra Tor where the weather changed and I had to decamp at midnight.

Hi Abbie, In one of my previous lives I drove tourist coaches onto the moor. It is a truly beautiful parkland with much for every taste. I also used to visit to walk and so during this vid I recognised many of the vistas I walked beside. You vids are inspirational and I look forward to getting out amongst the moor again after this current lockdown.

When I worked in the north in gold exploration I had to use my compass and pacing to keep on course through bush as thick as the hair on a dogs back, swamps, creeks, across rugged outcrops and over glacial deposits. It is surprising how accurate that one can get at navigating this way. It's more fun and more rewarding than using GPS.

Nice video, dartmoor is a vast prehistoric industrial landscape. Spent much time as an arch student up there.

Excellent Abbie as usual, I have not been to Dartmoor since the ten tors. Lockdown now in Wales, but I did the pyg track on Snowdon last week, you would make an excellent video doing pyg track up and miners down. Just an idea for future for you, I know you have done England and Scotland so seems a next step. All the best and look forward to future videos. You are a true gem ♥️

Thank you for inspiring me to get out into the countryside - more importantly my oldest daughter who has anxiety issues now loves coming out on our walks 👍

Dartmoor. Among my top 3 English national parks, with the greatest off-track hiking possibilities. Just walk from cairn to stone row to bronze age huts to barrow to stone circle. Have you ever done the walkham valley in late spring? When the blue bells blossom? I can really recommend that. Follow the dismantled railway towards Princetown, cut through to the Walkham river at the granite London Bridge remains and follow the track when you hit it towards the Dartmoor inn. One of my favourite hikes in Dartmoor. The woods you go through are just enchanting, with moss overgrown bolders and oak trees. You expect faries around every corner. It is beautifull in sunshine, rain and above all in the mist. I am happy to give you the directions if you would like to have them.

Hope you know your caterpillars, if not be careful about which ones you touch. Some have hairs that cause skin irritations that last for months.

I absolutely love Dartmoor. It can be terribly grim in bad weather, which can weigh heavily if your head isn’t in the right place, but it’s just stunning in the sun, especially this time of year. 😃

Ahh but Bob...Dartmoor in her winter gown holds a special delight..She needs even more respect and care when walking out...but like every love affair; those special times together, overcoming difficulties perhaps, bring the deepest of connections. Kind wishes..

Naughty girl! You're not supposed to go past Tor Royal farm. It's a private drive. Also why is there a picture of Newleycombe cross at 13.30? Just as you are walking through Whiteworks.... Otherwise lovely walk, glad you had such a lovely day.

I'm planning on going on a Dartmoor hike, dont have any experience.. Is it easy to get t lost?

Lovely video again abbie, but please be careful around cattle - there won't be a farmer watching your interaction with those cows and calves who won't be shaking his head and saying you got lucky - their body language was not friendly. Safest to give them a wide berth and look around for escape routes if it proves necessary.

Did you know that the National Park Centre used to be the Prison Officers Social Club?

On the Moor for a break right now! Not looking forward to going home! Along with the Scottish Highlands, my favourite place in the UK. Especially at this time of craziness. Will always come back here. 👍

I normally like your videos & I know you do a lot of great hikes but I cringed watching you walk through the cows. Their body language wasn't good at all, you were seriously lucky to not be trampled especially as they had calves. The moors are home for the cows, sheep & ponies so instead of walking through the middle of them and disturbing/stressing them, give them a wide birth & walk the long way around. You also need to be more cautious at putting your hand over a fence to stroke dogs. Sorry to moan but if you're posting these kind of videos you need to be a good example.
