You notice Sidious' sabers' activation sounds at the start of the fight? The one in his right hand uses the same sound it did in ROTS when he fought Windu, and the one in his left hand used the one when he activated it against Yoda. It's implied he was using his spare against Yoda since his primary saber fell out the window during his fight with Windu. I love little details like this.

One detail at the end not many people realize is the one thing Maul says once the fight is over. "Please have Mercy." You may be thinking, well of course because he doesn’t want to die to his master, but we see throughout that Maul will stay for a battle until one opponent is killed. Whether it be him or his rival. He has shown that he is willing to take a warrior's death (just like in rebels), and even with his Dathomirian origin it makes sense. So this scene shows exactly how scary Sidious is, even to Maul. The fact that Maul, despite being willing to have a warrior's death, he asks for mercy from Sidious. When even an evil, determined and beligerent foe like Maul asks for Mercy from Sidious, that is how you know what true terror is.

The fact that Mace Windu managed it to defeat Sidious in lightsaber combat is, after seeing this fight, just a showcase of how powerful Mace was. I would have loved to see a lightsaber duell between him and Maul

Palpatine did let mace hurt him so he could manipulate Anakin to dark side. His goal was not to kill mace, only to turn anakin. If Anakin was not in the picture, the fight would be much different. No wonder he killed 3 jedi cuz they stand in his way and he let the best of them be alive. All smart understands that lol. In addition, there’s no one enjoying fights more than sidious himself haha. if mace is so “powerful” he would come alone not 3 jedis with him lol

I love how dominant Sidious is the whole battle. The only time when any semblance of a balanced conflict goes on is right after Savage dies. At that moment Maul proves that he is truly the one with the greatest ability to use what the sith philosophy teaches. He is the one who truly follows the sith code, the passion and hate gives power thing. But ultimately Palpatine is simply too good. He is the culmination of a thousand year plot, and a thousand years of linear improvement of the dark lords of the sith, beginning with Bane.

@@Zenocius Not in the 1 v 1. Palps lands a kick on Maul, and Maul gives one right back.

The fact this whole scene even took place is a testament to Sidious' evil. The whole encounter could have ended at 1:50 when both Savage and Maul failed to resist a mere force push from Sidious but he decided to test both their prowess in lightsaber combat instead and initiated the duel. Then at 2:40 after being successfully charged at by Savage and finding it difficult to take on both brother who have resorted to attack him from multiple direction simultaneously, you can see him audibly scowl before once more opting to use his superior mastery of the force to momentarily disable Maul and dispatch an isolated Savage. Finally, at 4:13 the dual wielding enraged Maul clearly has gained a lead against Sidious in terms of strength finally managing to land a kick and have the advantage in the final saber cross, however at this point Sidious had decided to end the encounter and further tapped into the dark side to overpower Maul on the saber cross, and opted to use the force to disable him.

@@Darknesss490I think rather that he can’t easily duel them both at the same time, especially since they surrounded him. However, his connection to the force would always be his trump card in the fight, allowing him to decide where the engagement would take place (throne room, to announcement yard place, to in front of the mural) as well as how it would take place as well (his amount of opponents and their fighting styles). Although the Maul duo could at least concern him in terms of their physical capabilities, they were in no way able to even touch him in terms of their force capabilities.

I think this fight showed how effective sidious is as a master. Mauls training went so far he competed against sidious in a duel one on one. Maul was nothing in terms of force but his physical skill is just to underrated

I know that Palpatine is obviously Palpatine and.. well, there's no debate that he's one of, if not the strongest Sith of all time. However, it is stated that Mother Talzin was on par if not a bit weaker than Palpatine, but when Palpatine went to take her as an apprentice, he sensed that Maul's force potential was greater than that of Talzin, meaning in theory, Maul could have easily become more powerful than Sidious. If he'd have been trained right.

It’s always so funny to me that Palpatine CHOSE to have this lightsaber fight. He could’ve just ended it in seconds with his sheer strength in the force as soon as he walked into that throne room. The fact that he even chose to learn to use a lightsaber as a pure mockery of the Jedi and not only learn the basics but learn how to use it BETTER than a majority of the Jedi is even funnier.

When Sidious casually waltzes in and destroys an entire season of scheming in like three minutes.

@Irfan Alddin General Grievous isn't considered a Sith Lord, he was trained by Dooku but he's not one who can even use the force. Although he fights with lightsabers he's not actual Sith, he just works with them.

@Irfan Alddin I have to disagree. Sith Lord is just a term used to refer to dark side force users, or force users who followed Sith tradition. The title of a Sith Lord is Darth, and Dooku and Vader were both crowned Darth, while General Grievous, being a non-force user, cannot be a sith lord. Maul was a sith lord as Palps gave him the title, Darth Maul.

Aside from when they first met, Maul made a big deal about calling Savage his apprentice, but the moment he died, Maul once again called him brother 😢

We need more Sith vs Sith fights in Star Wars, the sheer aggression on their choreography, especially after Savage's death, is impressive: two force users, fuelled by rage and violence, going all out in the dark side with full intention to kill each other. We need more of this.

The fact that Palpatine openly admits that Darth Maul has become a “rival” to him says a lot about Darth Maul.

I dont think people actually realise that maul could have ruled the galaxy if it weren't for this fight, not only was he a tremendous fighter, he was a brilliant strategist and politician which often gets forgotten. I think he learnt all this from his master, but ultimately he could have taken a lot more but, I don't even think we saw maul at his full power.

The whole story of Maul is about failure and wasted potential. He would have ruled the Galaxy and reformed the Shadow Collective in George Lucas Episodes: VII-VIII-IX. But as we see in Rebels and Clone Wars, Maul always got close to complete his goals, until he was defeated in the last minute. That is one of the reasons why his death in Rebels is so well made and tragic.

He was laughing because of his arrogance and sadism. He believes he’s better than them. Which in this case is true because he did the hard work and mastered force and saber abilities. any time Palps is one screen it's an absolute joy to see him ham it up and just have a blast. He was great in Jedi, Great in Revenge of the Sith, and Great in Rise of Skywalker. he just loves doing what he does.

On one hand, I'm impressed that Maul was briefly able to solo against Sidious, who is one of the greatest lightsaber duelists in history. On the other hand, Sidious considers lightsabers to be a weakness and the Force to be the greatest weapon a person can use. So like, Maul was amazing and probably in his best fighting form, but Sidous was literally just toying with him.

04:19 is the only moment in the duel where Sidious seems to be strained at all. And it’s over and gone within a second. But the fact Maul was able to make his former master strain even slightly speaks volumes.

Me being the observant fan I am, "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Disney+." *Quick note: for a while they listed Seasons 1-6 of the show as a Disney+ original when it really wasn't (seasons 1-5 obviously aired on Cartoon Network, and season 6 was **_*The Lost Missions_* DVD that was also on Netflix).

I gotta say, Sidious fights way more better in the Clone Wars than in Revenge of the Sith. This really shows how powerful Sidious is cause we’ve always just seen him as this old, wise guy on the sidelines, but when he’s doing stuff himself it’s crazy to just see the action he can pull

I also love the detail of how scared Maul is of Sidious. First hint was Maul recognizing Sidious almost immediately and proceeds to bow to him as Savage has like no idea what’s happening. And then he begs for mercy which is so unlike Maul it kind of shocked us. Just another detail to show how much power Sidious has

Animation allows for a lot more creative fight choreography than live action.

I will never get tried of how much fun Sidious has being evil, usually villains are very one sided with emotion and it’s usually anger or sadness of some sort but Sidious is quite possibly the happiest person in the galaxy and its all because he purely enjoys being evil

Gotta love how this entire arc was Maul and Savage just schooling everyone then Palps just shows up and rocks their shit in like 3 minutes flat

Crazy how Sidious is literally playing with them the entire time, he could’ve very easily just killed them as soon as he walked into the throne room

I like rewatching this fight. It's so detailed. During the whole duel, Sidious is more focused on Maul. Completely humoring Oppresses attacks. Since he is aware of Mauls familiarity with his blindspots and openings. It was only until Palpatine realized Maul was opening him up to allow Savage to take the first blow. A deception that only further insulted Sidious even more.

What’s impressive about Darth Sidious is that he kept his hood on in the whole fight

It is nuts. Absolutely nuts this scene. I mean, Maul's a pretty nasty guy, plenty bad, but he has his motives despite his executions. But when Palpatine shows up, Maul is met with sheer, incomprehensible absolute evil. He plays with them, revels and chuckles as he stabs Opress. He's fast, an old man against two Zabrak warriors and not even breaking a sweat. It makes Maul look like a hero in this scene. And when you think about it objectively - Maul dualwielding with the darksaber against a spry dualwielding Palpatine under Mandalore. Definitely one of the most iconic fights in Star Wars.

This is getting out of hand, now there are two of them!

Through the show we see Jedi try to kick Savage’s leg and he isn’t fazed. But at 2:42 we see Sidious kick Savage so hard with ONE leg that Savage’s entire body goes flying. Really great way to show just how powerful Palpatine is.

Imagine being taken from your mother and being tortured your whole life,having your life destroyed and then being abandoned by your master.Then years later when you think you have power all of a sudden that man walks back into your life and then murders your brother just to get your attention,man that’s truly terrifying.

This fight is so sweet, the fact maul had become such a threat that Sidious had to deal with him personally, the fact that he toyed with them, he could have killed them with just the force but was so confident in his abilities he decided to dual fight them, the fact he kills oppress and tortures maul, like a wild lion toying with his prey before killing it! It’s so good! I never really felt Palpatine was a threat in the movies like Vader if he tried hard enough could over throw him especially since windu bested him but the clone wars made me LOVE sidious! Like he was so good he could have taken the galaxy whenever he wished but constructed this convoluted plan to embarrass the Jedi and make themselves the architects of their own downfall ensuring they’d never rise again to full strength. What a bad ass

Sidious is so brutal in this fight, from impaling Savage and launching him off a cliff to force slamming Maul and electrocuting him even after he begged for mercy. I wish we could’ve seen more of this type of action from Sidious in CW or the films. Also goddamn form 7 looks clean asf with CW animation.

Funny thing is, Palpatine's hood does not fall in the entire duel.

Dierkstrof Fortskreid I would say it’s underrated among casual fans. Most write it off as a kiddie garbage starwars show. Oh well, they’re missing out.

I always saw this moment as Palpatine looking at what Maul had and realizing he could be quite the annoyance to his plans. He also realized that there was no easy way of having either the Republic or the Sepratists to handle it. So what does he do? He takes his personal ship, flies down there himself and reminds his former apprentice who is in charge, and it sure as hell isn’t him.

Sidious hasn't had a lightsaber fight in years so this was entertainment for him.

This is one of my favorite fight scenes in star wars because you really get to see just how handily sidious defeats his opponents and how in tune with the dark side he is, almost as if he just toys around with his opponents and gets joy from killing and torturing

"Have mercy... please, please!" "There is no mercy." Best part in the whole fight, hands down.

Few Problems here: - While both light and dark side users could in theory learn this ability, Healing abilities were commonly found on the side of the light side of the force, since most dark side users wouldnt bother with healing abilities, when they could just siphon the life force from their enemies. Dark Side are known to use the force to keep their bodies alive even when greatly wounded though, but again, thats not an easy feat and surely far beyond what Savage was capable of. - Only very powerfull force users could use the force to heal fatal wounds - Only true masters could use the force to heal fatal wounds on others. I belive Mara Jade was able to heal fatal injuries on others. Other than that, only Darth Plagueis comes to mind... Self-Healing 2 lightsword wounds, which most likely greatly damaged important internal organs would take a very experienced force user... Basic rule of the healing abilities of the force were normals: If your body couldnt heal it on its own with enough time, you are out of luck...

I love this fight so much! You can tell Sidious isn't even trying here,he's just letting loose despite how risky it is for him to deal with an issue personally

The minute Maul knows Palpatine’s here, he’s afraid. His ego is destroyed, his fighting style is defensive, he resorts to try and trick Palpatine at first. Just goes to show that Palpatine was always powerful.

Not necessarily scared but was definitely smart to go on the defensive side, but then Savage was killed and the Maul actually gave Palpatine a bit of a challenge.

GoalieJoe59 CW is full of amazing hidden details that show just how amazing this show is.

The coolest thing in this is that there was a couple seconds were palpatine actually looked nervous after he killed savage, and Maul was the true threat against palpatine the entire time, you could see it on his face

A lot of people don’t fully realize just how dark of a show this was to appear on Cartoon Network

Sidious: “You have been replaced.” Maul: “By Dooku?” Sidious: “Yes but also no.”

This scene is just amazing , sidious casually walks out of his ship and without stopping he effortlessly waved his hand and kills both guards, then to do the same to the guards in the thrown room without seeing them. Then engages maul and savage while easily overpowering them without trying and killing savage. Then proceeds to overpower maul and torture him even further . Who knew an entire season plot was just foiled by 1 old man in 3 minutes.

To be fair… he took maul prisoner and allowed him to escape because this was basically the opening move of his plans to deal with any threats to his power. His main target was Mother Talzin, as he (rightfully) feared the nightsisters and their magicks, despite them being wiped out. There was supposed to be like two more seasons of their war.

The one thing that separates Sidious from all the other Sith Lords is that they had some extent of love and humility in them. Even a violent and bloodthirsty killer like Maul had the ability to have concern and care for his “brother” as Dooku had for Qui Gon Jinn and Ventress to a certain extent and Vader to his son Luke.

When Maul is begging for mercy, hes not begging for life, hes begging for a quick death because he knows Sidous will torture him. That. is the scary part
