No sophomore had ever won it, which is why McFadden didn't win it that year. Then Tebow became the first sophomore to win it McFadden's junior year. If the "unwritten rule" had been observed he would have won it his junior year.

LSU had lost twice that yr both in 3OT games. At Kentucky & at Death Valley. I bet you didn't think you'd be playing for a national championship a month later after that that devastating loss. You got the last laugh though & LSU is still the only 2 loss team to ever claim an outright national championship. 2007 was Houston nuts
McFadden could have been a beast if he hadn't struggled with injuries.

Boy I’ll never forget this game...
That Wildcat fake End Around with the Casey Dick block will forever be one of my favorite plays. He absolutely massacred that defender to seal the TD.
How could anybody forget this one! "We got that wood baby, oh and it's pronounced Arkansas not Rkansas!!!" ~DARREN MCFADDEN~
LSU fan here. The problem wasn't just McFadden as you can see in this video he was barely getting anything from traditional runs. The problem was when he was in the wildcat. To have to look for him to run, throw, or give to guys like Felix and Hillis, was the most dangerous part. Saban would use this same tactic two years later where Ingram racked up about 240 something yards vs South Carolina, with most of it coming from the wildcat. The key with running this is having an amazing guy behind center and great talent to fake to. It didn't last long in the NFL because everybody is top tier, but in college, this can still really be effective if you have the right talent for it. McFadden could do it all (he had 7 pass TDs his last two years), and he had a guy like Felix who scared defenses with his speed and versatility, and a versatile bruiser like Hillis who could smack you around and catch over you. Guys like Khalil Tate and Lamar Jackson would have loved to have Hillis and Jones in the backfield with them. That setup is too scary to even think about.

@@freekaron Miami had THE most talented RB trio possibly ever. Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, and Frank Gore. Not to Mention Shockey, Greg Olsen, and Winslow at TE. It's basically a high school offense...where everything runs through the most talented guy. It only really works if the guy behind center is so dangerously versatile...and damn, DMac was one hell of an athlete.
Just incredible. What a back.
One of the best games from hands down the best CFB season 🔥🔥🔥
Houston Nutts biggest win. Ever. There will never be another Darren Mcfadden. Arguably the best collegiant running back of all time if you count his versatility at QB.

Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, and Peyton Hillis, What else shall I say?
McGahee/Portis/Gore 7,410 combined career yards from scrimmage and 71 combined touchdowns. McFadden/Jones/Hillis 10,448 combined career yards from scrimmage and 89 touchdowns, which does not include Jones' 4 kick return touchdowns and McFaddens 1 kick return and 7 passing touchdowns. Felix Jones, consensus All-America kick returner in 2007, had 1,749 career kick return yards. McFadden totalled 926 kick return yards for his career.
