I love listening to Darkthrone on restless nights, it's perfect.. It's so raw and distant. I find that I can think without being consumed by my thoughts and just relax. ♥️

I swear, this is one of the best mixes i've ever heard in my entire life. Yes it's very low quality, but the guitars and the bass can be heard at a VERY EQUAL level without the one being too loud from the other and even though the drums can't be heard that much, their percussional fundamentals are still audible which is just fine and the vocals are also fine. Hands down, one of the best black metal mixes ever, it's definitely up there with Burzum's Filosofem

It’s honestly incredible how influential this song was. 90% of black metal riffs created since this track were probably at least partly inspired by it, whether consciously or subconsciously

When I was 16 I was massively into Nu-Metal and I remember the first time I heard Darkthrone all I could think was 'What the fuck is this shit? It's just noise and shouting'. Now, being a little older and wiser, I can honestly say that this is some of the greatest music I've ever heard. The sound quality may be a bit raw, but it does nothing to detract from the passion and intensity behind the music. Absolutely fucking stunning. Anyone who hasn't heard this is seriously missing out.

Life Eternal on the same album is even better, I think, though Freezing Moon is a timeless classic indeed.

Stone-cold, trance-inducing, iconic ear-worming riff. It's great to listen to this, especially while you're preoccupied with doing something else for instance when I'm playing a racing game and in pursuit of chasing my rival, it usually gets the job done.

So pure, evil, cold!

A 3-riff, extremely minimalistic song, but it never gets old!

This album sounds like it was recorded in a medieval torture dungeon, and I absolutely dig it.

I listen to this track on repeat when I walk a mile or more through heavy snowfall. It helps me just power through it.

Listening to it again, after some time, made me understand its importance; it's truly a hymn,an anthem of Norwegian BlackMetal....and perhaps of all BlackMetal--and I think I got it.👹Today marks 30 years since the release. Great respect, still kicks ass now.

I told my best friend "This is like the Smells Like Teen Spirits of black metal" : it is, right? Anyway, I'm translating his thoughts (we both speak French) : "I laughed at first, then I was scared, then it made me anxious, then I laughed again, then I drank a whole glass of wine while watching the last half of the song". I'm not sure he liked it.

I was 9 when I started listening to this stuff, tried to run my first gig when I was 12, since there were no BM bands in my town, so I booked a bunch from around the country having no idea I'd even have to pay them or anything lol. While Punk Rock was a rebellion against society through music, Black Metal is a rebellion against the musical norms themselves. Clean sung vocals, crisp studio quality sounds, and the same tired old lyrics about love found/lost were all things that Black Metal was rebelling against. To many music lovers (myself included) this was a breath of fresh air for the music industry, even if it's underground. If you can't appreciate this style of music, that's fine.
