Darkest of Days: High-Caliber Revisionism

Cool little obscure game I found. Not really worth 20 bucks but still pretty cool. Thanks to the dude that recommended it to me. I actually still have his post "I'm thinking about some others now too. Darkest of Days (pretty neat game where you go back in time and kill people with modern and sci-fi weapons)" That got me sold on the game so I checked it out (from the black market of the high seas, mind you).

Can’t believe how few views this has, it’s an absolute hidden gem Also I think mother has an Australian accent, not British, but it’s a little hard to tell with how little effort she actually puts into saying her lines

@@cshelley5658 Yeah sorry, I live in burgerland. Hard to tell the difference lol.
You did a great job with this video, I'd love to see Aaron continue this storyline, game or TV show, it doesn't matter. If you still have that full interview with him, I'd love to hear it.

He told me a bit about his personal life and his other businesses, so I can't really post the whole thing. Plus he wanted to be careful about what went on the internet, seeing as he now runs a public company.

@@Toastoffire100 Still it's a very interesting perspective to hear the actual vision behind the scenes, though I'd welcome more info on the development of the game from his perspective. Also, great work the the video, the outakes even if a bit grose, brake the monotomy of the speach and makes people pay attention. Moderation is key. Keep it up, this is some high quality content.
I really hope Aaron finds his "right group of people"
Honestly surprised to see such a refreshing and recent take and with some input from none other than Aaron on this - I worked on the project as one of the level designers and hoo boy would I love to give this premise the justice it deserved. Probably just a dream!

Would love to hear some stories from your time working on it! This was one of my favorite games as a kid
Thank you for reaching out to someone on the team. Really puts new insight on what happen with Darkest of Days that no other video review does. They just state that "Oh the developer had no wiki page" and leave it at that.
This really seems like it could of been something, it's a shame no one has ever tried to revive the idea. Great video by the way, was really surprised by the few count but KZread can be like that sometimes. I've spent months on some videos only for them to get a couple of views while my most viewed video with 100,000 views look literally 3 minutes to make. Hope to algorithm throws a bone your way soon!
I played this game a few years back. Even though it was an older game the fact of how many moving objects (enemies/allies) on a very big map, held up to modern games and surpase them even with the AI being able to do something othen than to stay in cover. Yes there were some balancing issues however I did not feel like it. I did notice some irregularities in the story and it did feel very rushed. I'm glad you shared this video about it. Even tho it was a glorified tech demo prequel it still was enjoyable to play, offered variety, maps didn't feel copy-pasted and the story was interesting, as you said, time travel has not been utilized enough. I do wish to see this series re-booted properly. It just flows with untapped potential and unique and entertaining gameplay.
Also, this 100% really needs a spiritual successor which actually gets finished properly.
Lever actions make me happy

This is so interesting. I remember my dad buying this game for us when it was advertised on the back of a PC Gamer magazine. Due to the development, I now know why it had such a lack of polish and reuse of areas. Still, this type of storyline and mechanics have serious potential. Good on Aaron for trying to make his vision happen. Well done, man!
I was rewatching this while trying to get my monitor to work and as soon as I plugged it in I got to 12:24 and that whirring noise made me think for like half a second that my monitor was gonna explode

Blame Bungie not me
Darkest of Days Feels like an acid trip while watching the history channel at 3am
One of the best games ever in my opinion. I wish they made a second part or full game. Or at least a movie like they said. This deserves more love.
I remember when I used to look stuff up about this game and most of the time I've seen comments of people being salty over the fact that this game lets you use futuristic weapons. It's like they never even bothered to figure out that this game is about fckin time travel.
God i hope they make a sequal to this gem. Its so sad that the main thing that prevented this game from being the next big this was the 08 recession
Man I actually just got Darkest of Days recommended by the algorithm and that’s how I found you, I think algo might finally bless you soon Great video and good job, thank you !
Great video! I have wanted this game for so long, really sad that I never obtained it. Watched the whole play-through years ago. Looks really awesome. Thank you for making this review on it!
Idk why but this game seems like an absolute gem. That shooting reminds me of those Source games.. maybe like Serious Sam? I wish this would return some day. Seems pretty fun and amazing premise.
I've known about this game for years and never knew about how it was supposed to be a triple A game and how there was a movie planed for it and stuff. But this game is my childhood and it deserves a sequel or a complete remake with new graphics and voice acting with a company the size of Dice or EA.
I just hope all of us will be alive for DoD 2 release!
This game was so awesome back in the day. Played it multiple times. Well done on the video.
I really liked the idea of this game. I agree with you that it would be interesting to see some battles without gun powder. Time travel stories always have such good what if potential.
You doing cool stuff, hope this comment will make some algorithm more happy and bring more people to see cool stuff.

I don’t know if it’s true I’m just going off a comment I saw on another DOD video but the developer studio had a flood and they lost a lot of their work on the game and this is what they were able to piece together weeks before release, despite its flaws I think it’s a very unique and fun gaming experience and I hope to see a sequel or prequel one day

@@Toastoffire100 consider it done. I guess since you have seen my comments on several of your videos you can tell I'm working my way through your whole catalog. I'll be sharing your channel with people too. I dig it.
Came here from the other video on this game. Mostly because.. I wanted to know what the heck the blue glowing guys are?? [ETA this video talks about it at about 9:40, thank GAWD] I’m only about half way through this one but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t mentioned in the other. My guess is those are people who need to survive for history? Like your video!
@Toastoffire100
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the idea behind the mechanic is that not everyone that went to war died. If you kill a normal guy, it's fine because they would've died anyway without your intervention. But if you kill a blue guy, they wouldn't have died without your intervention, and their death will change the cours of history somewhat. To prevent the butterfly effect or whatever, your agency now has to send in other time travellers to save THOSE guys. IMO it's a neat way to account for how disruptive it would be to kill people while time travelling.
It breaks my heart that this game never got finished or continued, it had true shitloads of potential Excellent quality videos btw, i subbed, hopefully a lot more people will come by soon
Maybe in our timeline Darkest of Days just isin't supposed to happen, maybe the financial crash of 2008 happend for a good reason

I mean it's a mediocre/average shooter from the same year as on of the best call of duty games, so most reviews had it in the 6-7/10 range. Are you referring to a specific controversy?
The gross outtakes of you regurgitating your lunch really made this an unpleasant video to watch. Had to actually stop at the second one. It's a shame, I liked your analysis of the game, but leaving that stuff in is just a really a poor way to make a video. It's not endearing or amusing, it's just off-putting.
