First time doing this wwas a riot. I thought it would be, like Shrieker, a 1 stage fight, so I came with no food, no torches. And so my men were badly wounded already before fighting the Vulf. Houndmaster, Bounty Hunter, Ocultist and Helion. Those maniacs somehow survived through the barrage of bombs and brigands, and even if Hellion, by that time my greatest adventurer, did fall to the Vulf, the rest could drive back the bloodthirsty horde. Months later, I got the resurrection event, and guess who was there waiting for me to bring her back into action? That crazy Hellion sure did not know when to quit. She even made it into the Darkest Dungeon itself alive.

Considering what kinds of people were inhabiting the town, this was a fairly stupid idea. War veterans, mercenaries, rogues, the Abomination, a killer clown, the list goes on.

Considering how the brigands don’t try raiding the Hamlet again after you kill Vvulf, it’s possible that they’re used to no resistance from the Hamlet themselves.

"The fiends have come to our doorstep, seeking bloodshed, pillage and ruin to be brought upon the hamlet. Our town, our 'safe haven', is being brought to its knees by hapless miscreants, seeking nothing more than to burn down everything we have worked so hard to accomplish, to bring our quest to an end, out of mere greed, bloodlust and spite. The screams of the townsfolk being hunted down and slaughtered in the streets they once called home, and believed with all their hopeless hearts to be the one place they could find safety in, under the watchful eye of the would-be 'heroes' that march out to cleanse the land, can now be heard clearly -- no longer is it a distant thought, only to be witnessed by those foolish enough to seek them out. The wolves are at our door -- and they howl for blood. This is a tragedy. Purely, and simply, unacceptable. These mongrels have to be driven out, with force equivalent to the torches, blades and guns they brought with them, seeking to bring misery upon the poor folk attempting to live out their days in the lands that saw their first breath. This, is *our* town, and they will learn the cost of their transgressions."

Remind yourself... of the sheer absurdity that a mere bandit clan is as dangerous as the horrors spawned in the Darkest Dungeon itself, if only to your party.

@@user-25352 I think it shows more the frailty of humankind; be an eldritch horror or a simple bandit, death lingers in every corner and has many shapes. Even the conqueror of the Heart of Darkness will die if stabbed in the heart with a simple dirk.

@@leon1san fraility of any single man is nothing compared to strength of united humankind. Where single legendary hero may die to thousands reasons, entire company that resides in Hamlet will eventually prevail. Same with humankind as a whole - some mortals are bound to die, others will finish the job pretty sure boss-level creation (brigand cannon) is not the ultimate weapon. Perhaps few hundreds years later, space battleship or such will be killing Hearts in spades. No need to count number of people who expire before this terrific power appears

Im not the only one

First time i heard this music my hamlet was attacked by some brigands. I picked up my 4 best heroes, Level 6 hellion, vestal, highwayman and bountyhunter. This team was invincible they went through many bosses fight and those bandits ain't gonna stop them. When i entered the first fight and THIS music came out, i was like " Hmm, i have a bad feeling about this. " But in the end ... My four heroes died and my village burnt.

brought my best 4 heroes - Vestal, Jester, Highwayman and Flagellant - and they all made it through with only one affliction between them. Vestal Killian smashed the barrel of bombs with Judgement, Highwayman Kieron scored the killing blow on Vvulf. Then, after a while, i took them to fight the swine god, and the collector showed up in the second or third corridor. i killed him, but had no bandages left for the bleeding on my jester and didn't want to risk losing him to a deathblow in a corridor, and he was already full from eating food, so i had to abandon the quest. the next time the four of them were together, Flagellant Careless got death blow-ed by the Shrieker as soon as he hit death's door. dumb meaty bastard sure lived up to his name, i guess. R.I.P Careless, you were a damn good fighter, and if it weren't for you the hamlet would be rubble. may you forever be whipping yourself and others in heaven, you kinky motherfucker

My leper died today the same way he fought many a campaign killed bosses no problem the last victory he would claim would be against the Vvulf we breezed through him with the help of a jester vestal and reynauld and got some pretty nice trinkets but the shrieker stole my trinkets right after we went to go fight him with the same team shrieker targeted only my leper he died right on the last turn he put up a good fight he got crits for 40 to no avail he sacrificed his life to regain our trinkets and he even left a parting gift a free building upgrade... R.i.P Leper you fought valiantly

Honestly one of my favorite OSTs ever, and this is the best of the bunch. It's a fight for survival of everything, your heroes, the hamlet you've built up, against a Brigand that are just desperate for some respite against the horrors your Ancestor unleashed. Incredible. Flames on the horizon, Sulfur in the air.... The wolves are at the door!

I'm running a dark and brutal eldritch/cosmic-horror dnd campaign for some friends and was struggling to find combat music that really captured the vibe I want. Looked up Darkest Dungeon OST extended mixes and found your playlist, saved every single one of 'em. So excited.

I'm glad to hear it! I've always thought that the Darkest Dungeon OST really captures that vibe of struggling to overcome insurmountable odds while also including that sensation where something inhuman and grotesque is bearing down on you! There is a foreboding weight to the music, and the harsh tones even taint the feeling of victory, knowing that, in the end, only a single battle was won against a greater and eternal cosmic horror! It's fantastic stuff! :)

rest in peace to my beloved dismas, who died valiantly defending the town from the brigand raid. he was aided by his dear companions reynauld, junia (vestal) and geralt of rivia (modded skin for bounty hunter). the team was underprepared, geralt was only level 5, but i was incredibly stupid and somehow only had 3 level 6 heroes by like week 45 on my first playthrough. the fights were brutal, but the blasting sounds of war awoke something in reynauld. he went virtuous and just went sicko mode on the whole quest. the vvulf had 3 hp, dismas was on deaths door but i just needed to end the fight because i could kill him in one turn. it seems i forgot overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer, as junia missed her attack on vvulf. i instantly realized i fucked up, i should have healed, but it was too late. DEATHBLOW. i quietly finished the fight and lowkey i may or may not have cried a lil bit

Tardif looked at his list with malicious intent. Right there, among the sprawling list of crossed off names like bacteria, Vvulf. Tardif begged and prayed to be part of the flanking team sent to assault Vvulf from where he cowers, and his prayers were answered. William, Boudica, and Junia were his allies in this fight, William being sent with him because Fergus and Tardif allegedly made a killer combination. House through house. Kill by kill. Step by step. Vvulf was about to meet his death, and Tardif saw to that. The door opened. And there he was. Tardif’s territory had been attacked by the Vvulf. His allies and even friends were wounded by his filthy mercenaries. Tardif was the wolf and Vvulf was the sheep.

One of if not the best song in the game.

Honestly, I find the Ruins music very bland. Everything else has a unique flavor to them.

I remember doing the wolves at the door event for the very first time and successfully completed it, but i did lose a hero at the time (I didnt bother picking up the trinkets since they were commons, and i had my inventory stacked with 1750g and ancestor items). I did remember this music. the music felt very threatening/destructive but it was great since it fits well with the situation. while i enjoyed the music, this was definitely something i wouldn't want to hear in an ugly situation, since i'll know its really serious... until i get followed up with the shrieker event that stole my trinkets.... and that same threatening/destructive music plays again... In the end i ended up heart attacking two more heroes followed up with my other two heroes getting really bad quirks... had to stop playing darkest dungeons for a bit after that...

Suprisingly, i only lost 2 of my 4 champions. Lepper and Clown made it, clown survived 6 death's door on this battle and 190/200 stress count. Lepper did the last hit, Vvolf was protecting one of his allies so... Yeah, kind of heroic dead, for a non heroic character.

I played on stygian and when i was attacked by Vvulf and his marauders i thought: "You DAMN idiots! We re trying to save the world here! Why you try to rob us? If we will fall the world will be destroyed and that gold wont help you to restore it"

I like how the chord progression is the same as the Hamlet theme

You’re not making an incursion into the Darkest Dungeon, home to the horror plaguing your estate and the wackjob cultists helping it. The brigands plaguing your estate are coming to you, being the literal only faction responsible for taking initiative and attacking your base. You are repelling the invaders this time, much like the swine, pelagic fish-men, fungus zombies, skeletons, bloodsuckers and husks were trying and failing to repel you from their homes.

DOUBLE STRIKE!!! I wish the Vulf and his henchmen can perform 2 attacks at the same character per turn, like Crusades in HoMM games.
