One thing I wanted to mention, and shout out to Anti and Koala on Darkest Dungeon Discord for pointing this out. to be fair, I built the bank and I still have money problems lol. Got up to 200k but back down to like 130k now in my current campaign, heh

The lore of darkest dungeon always entertain me more than the rest, it's darkness was very influential. Cannot wait for the next lore about grave robber.

At first I thought her lore would be the most boring one. Wow, I was wrong...

It's a down the rabbit hole kind of lore. With the relationship between her and the sorcerer being the most interesting part IMO. How his soul is trapped with the censer and how she's using his powers.

And apparently in DD2 she is an enemy :)

@@MiskatonicMemorialist Well, maybe not an enemy (as like cultists or skeletons), but an mini boss with the narrator, or Ancestor or who ever is talking to us in DD2, introduction. So who knows, maybe they will drop some lore on us about her (like they are going to with other characters - in EA there is already an backstory mission for HWM with prison riot).

She can appear with pillagers in road battles. The narrator says she had a shred of decency, once... but now, only greed. She has the same abilities, except much stronger. Interestingly, she cannot be killed. Hitting her while she's on Death's Door will cause her to disappear instead of saying "Deathblow". I hope she rejoins the roster at some point. She became my favorite character when she was added to the game, though I still like the Grave Robber very much.

Wow, she may be one of the most evil heroes in the game... she seemingly has no redeeming quality at all. She may be the most immoral of all of them.

I hope not though, I hate having a cast member that you cant like at all. If I was making a movie, Id write her character as that she let the woman go but be reluctant about it like "flee now before I change my mind!" to at least give her some goodness.

Someone should do "The Master's Ghost" as a modded class sometime. I love it when characters tie into each other!

My Hamlet's #1 export is batty Antiquarians. Use em up, kick 'em out. I regret nothing.

Considering that her melee attack is "nervous stab," I get the impression that Josephine is far from being as chaotic evil as suggested in this video. I get the hunch that she is just overtly obsessed with knowledge and trinkets, but is otherwise queasy or somewhat pacifistic. Else, why would she be so lightly armed? There's no reason to not wear good armor if she had so much economic experience, unless she simply intended to never be in a battlefield or fighting others. I personally interpret the Antiquarian as pairing up with the Sorcerer as a way to study the censer, and possibly help him with his knowledge of supernatural trinkets; but upon realizing that the Sorcerer intended to make human sacrifices, and not just magical experiments, Josephine decided to stab him in the back, her nerves on end - hence, "nervous stab". She then frees the prisoner in the last panel, using the censer to brake the chains. Maybe. Perhaps I'm just too optimistic edit: Apparently my interpretation was wrong. Dang.

Nah it's a valid point. She does express guilt/regret when she talks about how she wasted her life being obsessed with the dark arts. So she does have the capacity for good, but she did sacrifice the woman. She's bad, but the things in the Estate, and her master, were far worse. So maybe this is her redemption.

I would say nervous stab is just meant to suggest she isn't a practiced killer and prefers her targets not know she is coming. Not to say she isn't morally bankrupted, just is more concerned about her own skin than someone else. She rather kill those whose backs are turned and not watching her and those who can't fight back.

@@jacobfreeman5444 I understand what you mean, but personally, I believe that if such was the intended interpretation, there would have been a more fitting adjective than "nervous" - perhaps "cautious," "apprehensive," or especially "wary". I personally associate "nervous" specifically with a less hostile demeanor, and subconsciously, I just cannot quite break that association.

@@khajiitimanus7432 My thoughts come from the fact she is not actually a fighting unit. She is a coward when it comes to spilling blood. Something in her rejects actually getting her hands dirty and so there is a kind of hesitancy to her actions. She rather others do it while she reaps the rewards. Thus why it is a "nervous stab". She is no fighter, she knows this. She wishes she wasn't doing this, and only puts in the effort because she may die otherwise.

I always thought the last frame was her stood heroically over the women. I also thought she killer her master to save the women, perhaps finding the truth behind what her master does. The way she holds the blade is a bit off putting, but then again I don't think it would make sense for her to kill the women, since she offers no power and also they could have always picked another moment of vulnerability for her master, if they did not want to show her being heroic. But I suppose it is purposely left to interpretation. I'd like to believe she let the women go free, but the blade and her skills "protect me" and "get back" suggest otherwise.

Holy shit I have like 300 hours in this game and I knew you could carry more gold but I never realized that shes the reason you get those bonus loot items. I'm an idiot lol.

I wanna point out something too, her stab ability is called "nervous stab" which makes me wonder if it isnt related to her attacking the sorcerer She seemed fearful of him even after killing him like in many of her barks. I think whatever she experienced and saw with the sorcerer really messed her up and though she seems to despise his actions and evil, she also is following his steps

Gosh, I hope this video gets a follow-up for her appearance in DD2. And also some vids for the new heroes like the Runaway.

I've considered doing something like that, but the coloring doesn't look good when you put them all together. I could put the section each one is from but then that just produces a block of text which is distracting.

I hope she sells some weird arrowheads that can unlock ghost powers with different abilities.
