I personally love this deck. I adore the artwork and colours. Take note of the card with the hare on you said you didn't get, the 5 of cups, I always assume this bunny is sad because in the 4 of cups the fox is holding a dead rabbit, I assume it's the partner of this one. That's why I love this deck, everything leads on to the next part of the story, notice the tower in the background of the temperance card. It's very clever. I find those that don't like it aren't particularly fond of reversals in their readings, many become set in their ways about what the card means, where as this deck pushes against the norm which I love but makes many feel uncomfortable. Great review

Interesting interpretation for that bunny, thank you so much for sharing that. I'll definitely go have a look at it relation to the 4. I don't think it's so much about getting stuck in one particular way of reading the cards, but at after 15+ years of working with the Tarot, you do develop your own language with it. I am open to seeing cards in new ways however which is why I love exploring new decks.🙂 Thank you for watching. ❤️

The bunny in the 5 of cups is sad and is crying because the fox on the 4 of cups took away his/her partner, I’ve been working with this deck for a long time and I love it. By the way, the Page of swords is the same kid that appears in the Devils card 😉

some comments re the rabbit losing his/her spouse to predator saddened me as well, as I love all animals, but then as I thought about it, it has a ray of hope... it shows that even heartbreak/loss/death can be part of the natural process and has some good in that .the poor rabbit will nourish and continue the life cycle for the wolf and family.....we are all interdependent in web of life...regeneration, recycled and return to source/All..Nature wastes nothing, but regenerates energy form some favorite images ..the fool with fox and black cat, ten of cups as a family of wolves and pups, three black cat sisters, the two horses in two of cups...I like the ram as emperor bc it reminds me of the Forest Lord symbolism...Star and Moon cards are beautiful, Hierophant w Keys/Snake and as a tree..,,apples for pentacles...Ace of cups with raven, on and on, so many beautiful images and the guidebook is enjoyable as well

I think I closely relate to the strong feminine independence shown in the cards. Also the fact I respect tree spirits and animals. I have ordered the deck and would handle it shortly. You did a wonderful job by going through each card. The art work to my mind is very Persian in nature like that of Chughtai.

It's the Guidebook - yes it is. I am 71 and it's funny how close in certain ways the crone is to the maiden - Freedom - not available to the Mother - and the fact that in the circle of life, the crone is facing the maiden - and walking away from the mother and all the responsibilities, looking forward and getting closer to a new beginning. loved the review - I just may purchase this deck.

I went through a roller coaster with this deck. I LOVED the artwork so I HAD to have it. But then I got it and looked through it and I felt like it was too dark (and I'm a dark deck kinda girl) and almost gave it to my daughter. I put it up for a few weeks and pulled it down while getting another deck and when the reading felt kinda blah with that deck I used this deck and it rung so true. I realized this will be the deck that will tell me what I don't WANT to hear but what I NEED to hear. I love this deck now, it's one of my favorites 🥰

I'm a Tarot newbie, and this is the first deck I've really connected with. I had a couple of decks when I was a teenager and a couple recently, and I never got very knowledgeable about Tarot at all, but this deck... It had been on my wish list for months, and I finally decided to buy it, and I INSTANTLY connected with it. The artwork holds a sense of nostalgia and morbid curiosity that really intrigued me, and the story of the Shadow Witch moving through the Dark Wood completely hooked me. I still rely heavily on the guidebook to tell me the significance of the cards, since I don't know much of any of it yet, but I'm excited to become more familiar with it. I really appreciated your views on the deck, and I'm glad you gave it a second chance!

I see all the issues surrounding this deck and agree with them, but I just love the artwork. Can’t help myself. It was the first deck I bought as I approached Tarot seriously to learn it. I’ve been collecting decks off and on for quite awhile, but now I’d like to learn to use the cards. I’m a complete beginner at this so I shouldn’t say but it does feel very shadowed to me and I thought I could use it that way when I get more adept. But even if I just consider it part of my collection, I’m glad I have it. I had to buy The Nightmare Before Christmas as well.

I definitely think it has a bit of a "shadowy" vibe to it but after working with it for a bit, I'd say it functions well as an everyday reader type of deck. It probably wouldn't be one that I would go to for "shadow work" because it feels a bit too young and beautiful for that for me. But I am enjoying working with and I think the guidebook has some great stuff, especially for a beginner. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

This deck reminds me of the young me, full of fairy tale dreams. So because of this I feel like this deck could be useful for me….as a reminder of what it felt like to be full of hope and dreams. I really like this deck for the most part - a few of the images are a bit "comic book sexy", but it takes me back to all the things I loved about fantasy when I was a teenager: talking animals, spooky forests full of dangerous but sexy elf dudes... (Tolkien is probably spinning in his grave!) 🤣 It's also one of those decks where the lack of diversity doesn't bother me, because it's specifically drawing on traditional imagery from European fairytales. If I want to use a diverse fairytale/myth-based deck, there's always the Tarot of the Divine - I don't need all my decks to tick all the boxes all the time.

I used it last winter but I kinda felt like it wasn't for me (not because I felt old :P), I think just looking at the artwork it felt one dimensional, or two the most. I got this and put it out in my free library to get rid of it. I loved your description of this being a deck for a 20 year old--I think maybe a 14 year old! The art is pure Disney to me, not particularly elegant or truly beautiful (compared to something like Dreams of Gaia, for example). Your reading of the guidebook reminds me that, to me, it's not really good writing, kind of romance novel-like. I also get tired of the white pretty young women absolutely everywhere. Good for you giving it a second chance, but a first glance was enough for me!

It has a “Nightmare Before Christmas” vibe as far as the art style goes… but it’s better than the TNBC deck because of the way TNBC kinda does only half of the minors and then the other half of them are not really illustrated. I wanted to love this deck. I’m a Sasha Graham fan. The art is dark fairytale and I love the color palette. I see how it could be used as a shadow deck. Some cards I really like, others are enough to put me off it. It was a pass for me initially when it first came out, which was disappointing bc I was looking forward to it. Thanks so much for this review. I have this deck and was so disappointed, a shame because i love Sasha Graham. Perhaps I'll give it another try...

@DawnMichelleTarot Thank you replying! I did my first deck mod yesterday thanks to you! I chose an oracle deck (not so many cards) and it turned out rather nicely. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have this deck, I love the limited color palette (always a sucker for that) and I feel like I get really good readings with it. The art work reminds me of the angles in "The Last Unicorn" and while that is illustrated, it's definitely adult themed. I really want to know if you have edged it and if so in what colors. I have debated for two years but cannot decide.. so mine is still unedited.

I am a sucker for a limited color palette too! I have edged my copy! I'll share it and the markers I used when I do my monthly review with it. 🙂 Thank you for watching. ❤️

Hey Dawn, I do understand how you feel about wanting representation of different ages in a deck. I’m 28 years old and so this deck actually meets me where I am in my life. If you like Sasha Graham’s writing style, then you might want to take a look at the Tarot of a Witches garden, there is more representation of different ages in the deck, there are depictions of older people in the deck, in saying that though there’s not a lot of older representation in the deck, and you still may find it to feel younger. It works well for me because again it feels more geared towards people my age, mid to late twenties early thirties. Tarot of a Witches garden does have more diversity in it, there’s different body shapes represented, different ages, different skin tones and there are more androgynous figures in some of the cards, so if you wanted to see some LGBTQ representation it’s there as well. I’d be interested in what your impressions of this deck are

Thank you for the suggestion! That deck is on my list to check out. My old hesitation is that it might occupy the same space as my Green Witch Tarot and I’ve been working with that for many years. But I’m definitely curious! 😊

I thought the 4 of wands represents a celebration. I drew that card in a reading a few days ago and was very confused.

I think this deck is trying to take the more "shadowy" approach to the cards, so a lot of the descriptions have a bit more of a negative connotation to them. It can be a bit confusing for sure. I tend to read it a bit more numerologically and elementally and that helps. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

Normally I love shadow work decks and I'm in my 20s, but I couldn't quite get into this deck either. I kept trying to make myself love it though. Funny thing is even though I don't need representation of me to like a deck, in fact I'm usually drawn to gothic feminine decks despite being a trans man (I love the Dark Mirror Oracle and the Magic of You Oracle for example). Maybe it's the Disney-esque art? I've always been more of a comic/anime kinda guy as far as cartoony art goes so maybe that's what it is. 😅

The rabbit in the five of cups lost its mate in the four of cups, to the wolf bringing its own mate an offering... I have mixed feelings about this deck. It's come in and out of my possession a few times. The art is well done, but I find the card stock pretty terrible.

The three of swords is an odd-card-out in a lot of decks, I feel.... it doesn't match what a lot of decks say about 3s, and it doesn't match swords either really - if it's a card of heartbreak, shouldn't it be a cup? If it's a card of disruption, why is it a three? But the RW imagery is iconic enough that most decks just go with it. I have to be honest, that does bother me. It doesn't match suit-wise or numerically so I have a lot of trouble reading that card. Usually I go with something like.... you've made your choice from the 2 of swords and moving forward creatively, and doing so means cutting something away that perhaps you were emotionally attached to. Mind over heart, swords slaying emotion.

I have the exact same issue with most 3 of Swords... for me the heartbreak card is the Five of Cups because numerologically and elementally that makes more sense. 🙂 Thank you for watching! ❤️

I always cringe when someone rates something for "for when I was a child or younger". In a world when everyone seems to invent what they want to be and we all have to accept and be quite comfortable with it, isn't that being a little too square and labelled about something ? The labelling of something to be specific for teens or children is very uncomfortable to me, since I do think we should be able to enjoy whatever without thinking we are being childish or fullish just because someone decided that is for ... The concept of defining something specific for young people is a social construct and in the end who made those rules ? To be clear what I said is nothing to do with ratting what is safe for children in different ages.

I love the symbolism and general art of this deck. The red *pops.* However it's very heteronormative and the characters are all conveniently pretty (cis, white, slim, tall, "plump lips") and that makes it harder to connect with.

Too Disney princess for me. I wasn't even into Disney princesses when I was a little girl. Hard pass for me. Along with Nightmare Before Xmas and all the other Disney themed, Disney art decks out there. I really don't like the art style on this one. But I do like the backs......hee hee.
