agreed - and I would also say that it looks like the woman on the left has killed that snake (impaled on the staff/sword she's leaning on), and the one on the right has or is killing it as well (strangled/crushed). The implications are very interesting for the trio if those two snakes are meant to represent the two serpents from the earlier games.

I remember that Dark Sun Gwyndolin had these snakes as legs and Gwyndolin is female and male at the same time and that's why there are two girls on the picture, but one girl is a guy. I think Aria is Yorshkas daughter she looks more like Yorshka to be honest. The statue behind Ariandel is Gwyndolin, because it looks like Gwyndolin. Gwyndolin left Anor Londo to live in the Painted World of Ariandel, because of Yorshka, she told him she had a daughter... Aria. Gwyndolin tried to find her daughter and he met Elfriede and Ariandel, Gwyndolin and Elfriede became a child Sulyvahn. Gwyndolin told Sulyvahn stories about the moon and he gave him her/his moon blessing. But Gwyndolin left the Painted World because he heard about the Lords of Cinder and Aldrich's Church. Sulyvahn was raised by Elfriede, Elfriede teaches him the Ice Magic and she told him that the fire is no solution and the gods are no longer needed. After couple years Sulyvahn heard from the new outsider, the Corvians about Aldrich's church and Lothric. He left the Painted World of Ariandel to visit Aldrich, Aldrich told him about his visions and Sulyvahn remembered Elfriede's words, he joined Aldrich. Sulyvahn was on the way to Iirithyll he knew Irithyll is only an illusion created by his father/mother. He corrupted Irithyll and made it to his illusion and he turned it into a new Painted World, the only world he knew. He imprisoned Gwyndolin for Aldrich and Yorshka because he knew her daughter and couldn't kill her. Sulyvahn sacrificed his own father/mother for a higher purpose, he didn't hate all the gods. To take care of Irithyll, Sulyvahn created a puppet based on the puppet to enter the Painted World of Ariames, he heard about it from Ariandel, his wife painted the world. Sulyvahn gave the puppet to the church, so Aldrich and his Priest can enter the new Painted World of Irithyll. I know there is a time where Sulyvahn was one of Lothrics knights and i think that's why the dancer is his slave because he heard about her. But i only want to talk about his connection to Aldrich and Irithyll. Maybe both Yorshka and Gwyndolin left Anor Londo to live in the Painted World and after their return, they created Irithyll, because of the rumors about Aldrich or Lothric.

Hultiore Possible, i think that seeing how sulyvahn was a sorcerer specializing with ice (i.e the frost sorceries) he was naturally drawn to the boreal valley and his influence and sorcery eventually froze anor londo. its very possible that his eye rings haunted the knights with visions of the painted world and the forlorn that lurk there, turning them to be more like the wolves and corvians that inhabit ariandel

Somebody on reddit even came up with a theory about Sulyvahn taking over Anor Londo not for power but for revenge, since the painted world was the home of outcasts in the eyes of old gods. So what way is more fitting to say "fuck you" than take over their home and let the son of the first OG be devoured?

Ariandel constantly uses his blood to keep his painting... not destroyed. I think we can say he "links the fire" for the painting as we do for the real world. Exept real world is made of fire, and souls help fire to burn, and painting is made of pigment - blood of Ariandel (he uses his flail for this in trailer). So the Ending crow man wishes for real world is to give Eyes to firekeeper, let the fire fade, and wait a brand new world to be created from dark. Well, at least I see it this way....

You can apply the untrue dark ring to him to see what his face looks like unhollowed. Additionally, the notes in his subtitles refer to Vilhelm as a she. "(Various attack sounds... she wields a large straight sword and a flaming flamberge)" Kinda makes sense since I did find his set to be a bit on the effeminate side. Especially those pants. Vaati, I commented about the "glass murals" you mentioned in Ariandel's boss room on your "The Story of Ariandel" video. So yeah, people did notice it. :) I personally think those are two snakes, not two cords. If they represent Frampt and Kaathe, and the looming figures represent the other sisters of the Sable Church, I wonder...what do we know about the third sister, again? That she's often mentioned alongside dark sorcery and miracles? If she'll feature in the next DLC, I wonder if we'll learn more about Frampt and Kaathe too? If one of the serpents is dead...just brainstorming here, but what if they meant to kill Frampt and accidentally killed Kaathe? Or did one of the sisters want to kill Kaathe for some reason? I say this based on the Japanese version of Yuria's dying words, indicating that Kaathe is dead. There's no way to know until we get more information, but I believe that image is giving us some insight to the three sisters, and what we can expect with the new content. Watch, when the new DLC drops, everyone will be pointing back to this image, I'm sure of it.

Glad to see someone else speculating about the third sister. Yeah, she seems a lot more adept with magic, although they do describe the sisters as swordswomen. There's mention of an Abyss Dragon in the Milwood Greatbow's description, which sounds a lot like some ultimate weapon the Sable Church is hiding...

I think the snakes could represent the Undead. Dark Souls 1 Covetous Serpent rings: "The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony." In all Dark Souls games the player character defeats enemies that are presumed to be more powerfull than him/her in order to progress through the game and reach the First Flame. The snakes in the images could represent the Undead kind as a whole because all Undead have the potential to link the fire, though this doesn't mean they will or want to link it.

VaatiVidya, I think the dlc might have revealed a boss for the second dlc, this is in the Millwood Greatbow's description: "It is said that the Millwood Knights used these to face their sworn enemy, THE ABYSS DRAGON" Since Aria mentioned the Dark Soul, it is likely the next DLC has something to do with the abyss, therefore, I think the Abyss Dragon may be a potential boss in the next dlc

Regarding the snake "statue" in Friede's boss room, It's possibly the result of crude taxidermy. A wire is typically used to pose snakes for taxidermy, and in the history of the craft, wooden mannequins would be used instead of stuffing or clay products. Additionally, snake skins are often sewn back together, which could explain some of the tearing between the "statue's" scales that looks like cloth. While the head is made of stone, you noted that the head was meant to be hidden away, and it's possible the missing head on the statue sealing the room was repurposed. The statue's head might thus just be there to prop up the intended shape of whatever that piece of craftsmanship is meant to be. Another thing of note is that Priscilla neither drops any Dragon Scales nor is immune to the bleed status effect in Dark Souls 1, making her the only dragon or dragon descendant in the game to be vulnerable to that effect other than the basic blue drakes (and even they have Dragon Scales as a rare drop). As such, it's possible Priscilla might only have snake-like scales akin to the serpent men, themselves failed dragons. Ultimately, Priscilla may be more akin to a snake than a dragon (horns aside), and as such, the nature of the "statue" behind Ariandel might actually be her remains assembled in an effigy of sorts. As to why so little remains would be present, there is the theory that Aldrich ate her to obtain the Lifehunt Scythe. Not only can he still use the scythe when Vow of Silence is disabling all of his sorceries and miracles, but his right-hand man, Pontiff Sulyvahn, comes from the Painted World and knows enough about it that he created his own barrier system that uses dolls as keys. This means that, upon having his dream while devouring Gwyndolin, Aldrich could have been directed toward the prey he envisioned by Sulyvahn, digested her quicker than Gwyndolin (who is stronger than Priscilla, judging by the value of his boss soul and the souls he drops upon defeat), and someone made an effigy out of whatever (snake) skin and fur was left. This could also explain why Aldrich presumably has the genuine scythe as opposed to using a miracle like the player.

Vaati, the Japanese text for when the white-haired painter woman refers to Gael, is "Gael-jiji," which translates more accurately into a very familiar (in certain contexts offensive, if used derisively about age), "Grampa Gael" (albeit the translated use of "Uncle Gael" still technically works, if a bit of a sidelong view). I don't think they're blood related per se; Gael is dressed as a Slave Knight. It would be hard for her (ostensibly someone with status?) to be related to a slave destined to be fought to death until they Hollow, so it's more likely it's that he's a caretaker/bodyguard who became a family figure in absence of her mother.

maybe it has a connection with the londor ending. In that ending you don't pursue the cycle of fire or even put the world into darkness like in dark souls 1 (or like in the fire keeper ending) no, in that ending you usurp the fire. The way i see it, it is probably a representation of that usurpation: In order to go beyond that neverending cycle and it's binary conclusion you have to choose a third path. Killing these two snakes is a way to show that you can't follow that way before to destroy these two ideals. Also it makes sense that these two women are representing the sable church, we know that yuria and two of her sister created the church. Friede is in the painting, probably for a very long time now so only two sisters are leading the church.

Maybe the 2 snakes represent Kaathe and Frampt respectively, because they represent the cycle of light and dark, which you break with the usurpation of the fire thus why they're either dead, or just not intertwined anymore. The snake statue for some reason reminds me a little of that thing from a while ago? Where they did a scan of a golden buddha statue and found that it had been cast containing the mummified remains of a now thousand-year-old monk. I'm also struck by the contrast of where the outer portion has worn away - the human underneath the surface at the head of the statue, but underneath the tail, just a crude maquette. I'm afraid I'm not well enough versed on the game's lore to speculate on any sort of meaning, but I appreciate knowing about these details all the same. I'm so pleased with the levels of craftsmanship which continue to make themselves known in games these days!

"Ariandel, being the restorer of the Painted World, knew that it was painted with blood, and only blood could protect the secret." Sounds an awful lot like Ariandel found a scrap or the faded painting of Ariamis and RESTORED it using his own blood which means every Painted World was painted with blood, which is further confirmed if you look at the 'Painting Tools' next to the girl. Most of them are covered in Blood.
