I so often feel like that Protoss players don't really care if their disruptors die... I've seen so many just not be microed after they did their shot. Is it just because they have to be in front if they want to hit something and then stalkers are way faster to back off?

You can storm, fungal, corrosive bile and baneling explode on invisible/burrowed units and they will take effect.
