DARK History behind Valentine’s Day!
Ойын-сауық
Valentine’s Day! The day we express love toward family and friends…Right? What if I told you Valentine’s Day was the date of a man’s execution. His name was Valentine. While there are technically multiple different Saint Valentines, unconfirmed sources state one of the Valentines wrote a letter to his jailer’s daughter, whom he had befriended. It was signed, “from your Valentine.” He was martyred by Rome on February 14, 269 A.D. “How did this turn into a holiday about love?!” Glad you asked! In the 14th century, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote a poem, containing the words, “For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne’s day / Whan every foul cometh ther to choose his mate.” Shortly after, lovers began sending each other poems on February 14th. From there, the holiday continued being commercialized, until Saint Valentine was all but forgotten. So if you want to be original with your valentine this year, be sure to share this video with your loved one…or just send them the cute chocolates with the wise sayings on the wrapper.
