Eliphas has got to be one of the best of the faction leaders in Dark Crusade. The way he talks back to the other leaders I found to be amusing. Davian was also funny to listen to when he roasted the Tau during the Tau Stronghold siege.

It's awesome how all commanders have their own banter with each other. It shows that developers actually cared to make a good game.

That pause in the music when Eliphas finds Aun'El... I can imagine hulking defilers smashing through Tau barracades , throwing dust and debris all around. Then, through the fading dust, the form of Eliphas leers down at the Ethereal, his Crozius hanging at his side. "There you are Alien, Your time has come." The Ethereal throws up a brave speech, but Eliphas marches forward, heedless of the alien's words. His cultists and legionnaires storm into the enemy lines, ripping apart the fire warriors and cutting into the Kroot, while leaving the enemy leader to the Apostle.

HalfTangible It's not surprising in a certain way, after all they are both civilized and the Eldar, at least, don't worship anything evil besides Khaine, and it's pretty less evil than many of the gods and forces in the universe. @@Brenhydra I read their wiki page, and they aren't slaves. In fact, most attempt at controlling them fails, and only some Inquisitors managed to have a retinue of them by gaining their affection. Reading the Xenos page though shows that as a rule all Xenos must be hated and killed, for they are blasphemous to the Emperor. It reminds me of DoW2 where Thaddeus, a young space marine, wonders why Eldars are destroying the Emperor's shrine when they should build shrine and beg Him to forgive them for being Xenos (And they say Space Marines are the good guys), and he's told that being Xenos is one sin that the Emperor cannot forgive. There are a few sanctioned xenos, like there are sanctioned psyckers, but this is not a species wide authorization. Some individuals may be given the right to live, it's relatively frequent for Rogue traders and some inquisitors. Kroot mercenaries often sell their services to the Imperium, although they give the T'au a discount. The attempt at sanction often fails, and some administrators denies it even exists. The "Cold Trade", the black market for xeno technology is unofficially tolerated. Beyond that the Lex Imperialis isn't always respected, and not all humans are part of the Imperium meaning there could be some slave species somewhere (or allied species, there could be whole kingdom and empires with milenia of peaceful coexistence). However as as soon as someone with authority and the will to put things in order arrives, all those Xenos will be killed, except maybe a few select individual on special request.

Daggsy The Tau are indeed an interesting race, as they are cut out from the warp and have strived toward science and technology, that was one of the Emperor original goal of humanity, to get rid of religion so that they would stop feeding the Chaos Gods and count on themselves only. Sadly, Imperium and Tau would still end up in war: the "greater good" fails to see the fact some races cannot be tolerated (hell, he tries to reason with CHAOS!!!), and they would be ok with Eldars, one race i'm SURE the Emperor would never trust, realizing how they NEED to be exterminated.

Funny story, the Eldar originally entered talks with the Imperium of Man before the horus heresy. Specifically, with a primarch called Lorgar...Before the humans (bar the emperor himself) knew anything about the ruinous powers of Chaos. The Eldar, sensing the taint of chaos on the primarch (dammit Erebus!) thought them servants of chaos and went hostile. Humanity, on the other hand, perceived it as an act of war, serving to drive the humans away from diplomacy in future. So yeah, Grim, check. Dark, check.

+SirAndrei of Order Mariș The Emperor himself doesn't really see himself as a god and he tried to eradicate all the religions that existed in the galaxy when he was still strong and fully alive. Faith can mean two thing, to have complete trust or confidence in someone/something or in the religious way to have a strong belief in a god which is based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

Oh, it will fall. The Tau have at least one Genestealer Cult among their worlds, The 'nids are closing in from the East and below, and the Necrons have wiped out at least one world. Given that the Tau Empire is largely on the defensive, due to the aforementioned 'nids and the Imperium, we're staring at their extermination due to-- Are those Eldar helping them out? Okay, they may hang on a bit longer.

josh sierakowski you dont seem to know that the imperium compare to the tau are but weaklings. all of these worthless blind fools are not even truly united and most of them even want to be with the tau while their leaders are just madmen not sightly different from the chaos fools. and the rest of them like the orks witch are fighting eachother,the eldar that foolishly keep fighting the tau with no effect at all and the necrons witch can't even get to firing range are all botherless threats. the greater good will NEVER fail.

They are not flexible on their caste system, and they certainly are not flexible on their overall ideology. While their ideology allows for more religious freedom SOMETIMES, they allow significantly less class mobility than the Imperium, and much like the Imperium they do not tolerate criticism or free thinkers either.

Everyone has a reasonable respect for the eldar. They have a very mystical aura and a deep insight that make Humans, Tau, and even the Orcs uneasy.

I like to think the Orks wouldn’t have known to take the tower if O’kais didn’t bring up its importance.

I adore how terrified the tau warrior sounds when the necrons approach.

I love the musical score in the background, the voice acting is good too. They should make a feature length 40k film.

What if the covenant from halo was in Dawn of War Dark Crusade. Intro: Arbiter: surrender honored Tau, we do not need to fight. Communication Array: Kais: protect the communication array! Deploy additional forces to unity plaza! Arbiter: Brothers, capture that station and the enemy shall revealed to us! End: Arbiter: Surrender honored Ethereal, enough blood has already stained upon this battlefield. Ethereal: I do not fear you Arbiter, the greater good shall prevail. Arbiter: very well, I'll give you the warrior death in your honor. After Action Report: After the battle against the Tau empire, the covenant rounded up whatever survivors was left and had their apothecaries treat their wounds and then sending them to the internment camps where they would be kept safe, the Arbiter wishes to give these warriors the respect they deserve and had the Ethereal's body preserved for burial once the battle on kronus is finished. While the battle against the Tau empire was unavoidable, the Arbiter has hope that the Tau empire would be open to communication once shown that they have honor and giving their warriors the care and respect they deserve. As for the humans that was under the Tau banner were mercilessly slaughtered, as dictated by the Prophet of Vigilance that the quest to purge the heretics is still an important holy mission that needs to be completed. And the Arbiter obligded and had his Elites and hunters kill whatever remains of the humans in the city.

I'll admit, this was far more satisfying than I expected it to be.

I read they were built after the chinese with the concept of communism (sacrifice for the greater good)..

I like the small details like how O kais' voice actor says protect aune l or protect the array on different tones depending on the faction.

I fucking love the imperial guard voice lines. They are done so perfectly.

I like how Farseer Taldeer has at least a small amount of respect for the Tau in using his full name and title.

On that point, we're agreed. In Dark Crusade, Taldeer's operating from a single cruiser, which means she probably has no more than about 4,000 combatants under her command (of whom by far the majority would be Guardians). It's a number that Ulthwe can ill-afford to sacrifice meaninglessly, but Ulthwe is better able to stomach the deaths of Taldeer's crew than the Blood Ravens Chapter are to stomach the deaths of Thule's three companies.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. Madness drives madness, and that will lead to heretical acts in the name of greatness. For either the God emperor, the greater good, or chaos, unspeakable acts will be had by mad men and the sane alike. No one is safe in such grim darkness.

Still I think that Eldar and Tau can somehow form a peace between themselves. They are technologically superior races, seeking balance and peace in the Universe.

Man, Dark Crusade really made good characterisations out of the factions. While Tau might come as good guys with noble intents, the hypocrisy, ignorance and naivety does bleed through. Hell, you will lose if you treat a WAAGH like it's just few pests. And no, rest of the factions ain't perfect either and that's awesome.
