Fenrir, to me, is a prime example of a self-fulfilling prophecy in regards to his actions during Ragnarok. It is foreseen that he will be an enemy of the gods and will swallow Odin, so the Aesir deceive him and chain him in darkness. To do this, they exploit the trust that Tyr had built with him. It must have been heartbreaking, the only other being that had shown the wolf any kindness became the tool of his imprisonment. Do you see where I'm going with this? The prophecy dictated that Fenrir will became a great enemy, yet the Gods gave him every reason to hate them and crave revenge because of that prophecy.

So it's basically similar to Lord Shen in KFP 2, wherein the individual tries to escape his "fate" by eliminating the possibilities that could enable the prophecy to happen, only to end up sealing that fate by doing those things. But no matter what they did, the end is the same.

@@amarisrosalette4431 That is precisely what I'm getting at, yes. The way I see it, though, is that Fenrir's prophecy could have been altered had the gods taken a different approach with him. Let's assume that Odin hears, "Hey, this giant wolf is a major threat and is going to destroy you." As Odin, I would pause and ask, "Why does this being wish to destroy me if I've done him no harm?" Personally, I don't believe that Fenrir is strictly evil just because of this prophecy, or because the myths about him say so. Fenrir is clearly indicated as intelligent, and can be reasoned with; he's isn't just some giant anomalous super-animal. If I were one of the Aesir, I'd propose that instead of imprisoning him, treat him like family. Tell him that if he behaves himself and remains a good boy, he will live in comfort and peace in Asgard for the rest of his existence. Unless he gets bored and decides he wants to start breaking things, I don't think Fenrir would turn down an offer like that.

​@@Dovah21 I really like your line of thinking, and I would have done the same. The path of the wise ruler considers the tread of others on the road. But I think the implication in the legend wasn't that Fenrir would have a cause to destroy the gods, the wolf was fated to do so, prophecied, which means no one had a choice in the matter. It was going to happen, it was going to be the future. I think Fate with the Norse was a thing set even before birth, there was no changing it, no avoiding it. I deplore Fenrir's suffering, and they were wrong to chain the wolf, an act I view as them hiding from fate, cowering away from their destiny. They should have let Fenrir roam free, and awaited Ragnarok stoically. But the Norse gods were all too human in their souls and hearts, they feared their end like any other being in love with life. It is a great tragedy, plain and simple. The gods could no more change their fate than Fenrir could avoid imprisonment. Fear profits us nothing. They should have picked up their arms and grown stronger. But then, so should I, and so should you, and so should all. But who among us can when it matters?

Fenrir was done so dirty, he was just a pup when Odin took him from his mother and banished his siblings to eternal torment. He learnt to like and play with the Norse gods, even trusted Tyr with his life. And then they tricked him. They chained him, drove a sword through his mouth and cast him into the darkest pit they could find. Fenris is no more a monster as they are who chained him. This music does him justice beautifully!

Maybe like an old abandoned city that's slowly rusting and falling apart, an irradiated desert wasteland with survivors, or maybe an old fallout shelter that holds a terrible secret. You don't need to use those ideas specifically but something like that would be really cool, but anyways keep up the amazing work and have a nice day!!
