Darius Bazley Made A Trailblazing Move That Didn’t Work! Stunted Growth

Спорт

In November 2017 Darius Bazley signed his letter of intent to play for Syracuse as one of the top high school prospects, actually ranked 17th overall by 247 and the #4 small forward, in the RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson class, to many of his peers surprise by support. By March 2018 Bazley changed his mind and announced he instead choose to become the first top high school prospect to chose the G League route instead of going to college. Or at least he was supposed to be, before Jalen Green had to take on that responsibility because Darius Bazley actually backed out of it, deciding to sign a deal with New Balance to be an intern for them, marketing their apparel and digital footwear for a guaranteed 1 million dollars, that could’ve reached up to 14 million with what the agreement called “hitting performance incentives”. So basically leaving high school he took a year off competition to work out by himself and got paid to do it in New Balance brand basketball sneakers and on court apparel. It didn’t completely turn out bad, as he still made the NBA and played 4 seasons, but now what? He was recently waived by the Brooklyn Nets a few months after being signed, and is now playing in the G League without a major pay day or call up in sight. What happened to Darius Bazley. • @jicgepanagagmailcom

This is what I dont like with Rich Paul. They're the ones who insist their decisions despite their players not liking these deals that they are to sign. Countless times, Rich Paul just leaves the ship when he feels it's starting to shrink. Look at Nerlens Noel who they talked to sign a one year deal instead of taking that 75 mil for 4 years coz they badly want to squeeze the pockets out of the Dallas Mavericks. I mean, look at how they handled that AD trade from New Orleans. It left a bland taste to the league and AD acted very unprofessional when they couldnt force him a trade to LA mid season.

Kind of besides the point but I don't think the G League ignite is a good way to develop talent. The players are just allowed to make mistakes in the name of showing flashes. Whereas college teams are actually incentivized to win and the coach has authority to bench a young guy who isn't ready. On the ignite if you're not ready they just let you keep making mistakes without a proper foundation to improve

@Tay04723 He just dropped 20 tonight, so I wouldn't say he's bad. To say he's backlogged on a team with too many centers (Isaiah Stewart, Marvin Bagley, & Jalen Duren) would be a better observation, IMO. You have to also take into account his injury history and that he was drafted onto a championship team (Dubz) that expected him to be an immediate contributor vs. choosing to develop him as a player, he's just incredibly unlucky. He'd be a serviceable player with a decent upside on another team in the right situation.

A couple things I disagree with here. Bazley would have been fine playing in G League if he chose too he was not to weak at all, and the following year as a rookie proved that as he put up great per 36 numbers and is just one of those guys that plays a lot stronger than he looks. Also it worked out because he did get picked in the 1st round which was the goal for the 15th ranked HS prospect one year removed from HS. Then he had a solid rookie year and became a starter the following 2 years. The only snag in his development was his shot not becoming consistent enough which is why OKC let him go as did the Nets. But good for the Sixers because we now got a gem on the cheap.
