Daredevil & TMNT: The Parody Comic That Ruled The World

Ойын-сауық

An analysis of how Daredevil inspired the parody of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the creation of TMNT #1, and the legacy of both Daredevil and the Turtles. Learn about the origin of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, how Daredevil and TMNT share the same radioactive accident origin, how The Foot Clan and The Hand are the same, the evolution of TMNT through comic books, TV, movies, and more, and how Matt Murdock, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello have changed over the years.

This reminds me how much I wanted there to be a Daredevil Crossover with the turtles where Splinter explains the origin of the turtles to Matt and he realizes that in a way his good deed of saving the blind man lead to the creation of 4 heros and that he is sort of welcomed into the family. Could be wholesome.

@@JusRed48 Another angle on this that occurs to me is that The Foot has a lot more that it intersects with, what with them creating mutants, or relying on outside help from people like Stockman sometimes, or their involvement in street crime. The Hand is always presented as very insular in comparison, and as a result, there's less to be done with them

Fun fact... for me 2003 was NOT my childhood. I grew up with the wisecracking, silly, original cartoon.... and HATED it. For years, as someone who read the original comics, the cartoon always just made me mad. So when the 2003 series started and it was going closer to the original comics origins, I was happy. So the 2003 version is my favorite. Despite already being a full grown adult by that time.

It also has... * A family that welcomes outcasts to be part of it. * Inherent inversion of "man vs monsters". * A healthy balance between "just minding our own business until someone decides to ask for trouble" and active heroism. * Some degree of both silliness and seriousness inherent to the premise, that allows writers to find their own sweet spot and even move seamlessly between tones if that's what they're about, and none of it has to feel out of place. * Heroes often willing to offer their enemies a chance to redeem themselves. * An ensemble of characters with vastly different personalities, and room to grow and change while retaining the fundamental aspects that make them who they are. * Fairly flexible origin story. TMNT, almost accidentally, has enormous storytelling potential and practically endless room for reinterpretation.

Rise of the TMNT was such an eye-opener for me. I’ve been a fan of this franchise since before I could talk, and when you follow something that long you assume that the best adaptations will be the ones that revere what came before. But Rise throws reverence out in favor of some genuinely fresh takes on the material, and as a result it’s my favorite version of the turtles to date. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, but a willingness to evolve is what keeps these franchises worth loving long term.

5:53 Actually the Samurai Pizza Cats had absolutely nothing to do with the Ninja Turtles. At least if we're talking about the Japanese version originally. That was actually based on/a parody of Gundam model kit figures, except they were a parody of Edo-period Japanese dramas with Robot Animals. But still somewhat intended to sell figures natively in Japan by just targeting that demographic of the otaku fanbase that collects and paints robot figurines. Although one small element of the later English dub which was completely re-written from the original did take shots at the Turtles rarely, only as a way to try and comically set itself apart as unintentional competition. But I believe they only ever referenced this twice.

Not gonna lie I was extremely confused when I kept seeing people said that the same thing that turned the turtles and to me and gave Murdock his powers but the concept of crossover sounded cool. Maybe an IDW one. But I’m glad this video explains what I was so confused ab. I wish Teen Titans could cross over with them too tbh.

It wasn't just daredevil, it was New Mutants too. The "Teenage Mutant" part came from them.

Yeah it definitely feels like the hand/ninja stuff is third. Not much focus was put on it even by miller early in DDs origin.
