How? Lindsay was the first baseline power player to win Wimbledon.
@shelleycole-nimblett8666

@@jamesyu5212 Davenport was a great player; an absolutely clean, pure striker of the ball, and an all-court player, but she lacked the movement and absolute tenaciousness and mental toughness of Venus and Serena. Before Venus, there were other tall women who played tennis, but none of them moved like her. They were generally slower, and unwieldy, like Davenport. Venus has the power that comes with being a bigger, taller athlete, but moves with the quickness and nimbleness of a smaller one. This was an unprecedented combination before her time, but is much more commonplace now. I would go even further to say that this phenomenon also translated into the men’s game, where more and more there are taller players who move well. Added to the Williams sisters’ power, movement and smarts was as I mentioned before, their mental toughness. Opponents know no matter the situation, they are always in for a fight with these two. This is why these woman reigned supreme for so long.
Kudos to their father who developed two of the best tennis players who ever lived.

“Venus wants to win Wimbledon; Serena wants to win the US Open” gives me chills considering they both won their dream slam as each of their first!
Serena narrated this beautifully. What a unique and powerful story continued.
I was only 8 but I remember how huge a deal it was in the UK for Venus and Serena to meet in the semis at Wimbledon. My family and I were on holiday in Cornwall and out for lunch and I remember begging my parents to take me back to the hotel so I could watch it. I have been a huge fan of both sisters ever since and was lucky enough to see Venus defeat Lindsay in the 2005 final, one of the most exciting days of my life up to that point. I wish these women could go on forever.

Serena and Venus have the most beautiful relationship and it's so heart warming to hear how Serena talks about her big sister. So much love, respect, admiration, etc.. Richard Williams should be praised for a hell of a lot more than creating two tennis super stars. He created a beautiful family.

Her father already knew Venus Williams will take Wimbledon and Serena US open as maiden slam
Yes, Lord! Those were some powerful "Sister" years in women's tennis! Pure perfection, perseverance and excellent performance!
Venus has always been my favourite of the 2 Sisters. In her prime Venus was simply the most exciting female tennis player to watch, with the speed of her movement, unbelievable court coverage, powerful serves and volleys. While Serena ended up being technically better and more consistent with her strokes, it is very hard to say when both play at their very best who would win. If not for the fact that Serena was around at the same time as Venus and of her illness over the years, Venus would have won around 12-15 grand slam titles. She is one of the very best female tennis players of all time, right up there with her sister, Steffi, Seles, Navratilova and Evert.

It's actually difficult to fathom how good BOTH of the Williams sisters are. Usually there's one sibling who isn't as good, but they were both multiple slam champions, they both dominated the game individually and together, in both singles and doubles at the SAME TIME. Just insanity.

@@TarHeelBlueFreak Steffi Graf is regarded by the vast majority of tennis analysts as the best mover the game has ever seen. Just watch their match at Wimbledon 1999. That was Steffi's last ever Slam and after three knee surgeries she still moved better and outplayed Venus who had one of her best years on tour. The two of them are completely incomparable. Steffi is just superior in every single aspect - speed, court coverage, movement, athleticism, mental strength, technique, discipline, work ethic, elegance, grace, beauty, etc. Even Richard Williams said back in the 90s that there will never be anyone like Steffi Graf again and he was right

@@JasonWalkerJamaica personally I never enjoyed them playing against each other. it always seemed like Venus, being the big sister, struggled to play her best against Serena because as much as she wanted to win, she didn't want to see her little sister lose. and while Serena, as the younger sister, didn't worry about that as much, it seemed like she didn't particularly want to beat her sister either.

I love that each of them won their childhood dream Slam first!
It just have been hard for Vee to see little sis win a grand slam first. I’m sure she was proud, but like Serena said, the older sister is always supposed to be first. So glad Vee didn’t give up and kept fighting because that very next year she dominated.
wow their father taught them to be confident , he set in front of their eyes the highest and the best making it easy to achieve ... what an approach to build great players , what a strong belief
I get goosebumps whenever I watch the TWS video of the 11 and 12-year old sisters. Even then already aware of their respective strengths in the game and their dream GS titles. Odds heavily stacked against them. Spiritual stuff. We do indeed walk by faith not by sight.
I still remember when these two came on the scene, with their beads👍 LEGENDS!
Just phenomenal and priceless sisters love.
Venus worked hard. From childhood at the age of 7 she started training. She merits huge and deep congratulations
Venus truly is a historical player. First black tennis player to reach #1 in the world. Ashe and Gibson were never ranked#1. Venus was the first dominant black player in tennis winning 4 majors in less than 15 months time. Only Serena has matched that accomplishment. Historical.

Evonne Goolagong is an Australian Aboriginal. They are in fact, black people. It may have only been a brief moment in the mid-70's that she achieved a world number ranking but it's legit. Venus and Serena are the greatest sports stories till date and perhaps ever
Venus is such a trailblazer and game changer. She, for my money, is the greatest mover the women’s game has ever seen-she was graceful, athletic, and seamless with her cross-court movement. I hate how the sports media of the last 10-12 years have pretended that her amazing career and accomplishments are basically non-existent. Serena isn’t the only all-time great player in the Williams clan. Vee came first, and has also fought for equal pay with such class and never-give-up spirit

Steffi Graf is the greatest mover the game has ever seen. As for Venus, she is not an all-time great. The only all-time greats are Wills, Court, Evert, Navratilova, Graf and Serena Williams. Venus is somewhere around the 13th best after the aforementioned ladies and others such as Billie Jean King, Lenglen, Connolly, Goolagong, Seles and Henin.
I love how they all fully support each with pure love and loyalty
I love these ladies. The determination
Yes… there’s incredible talent, focus and dedication. But it’s the self/belief that puts the chills down my spine. Even at such a young age, they knew it!!
