The Darche Ridgeback HighRize Hard Shell Rooftop Tent is sure to keep you up even when the weather gets you down.
The removable fly has a UV rating of 50+ and a 3000mm water rating, so you won’t get sunburnt or sopping wet while you’re under cover. The pack-up and pack-down processes are made easy with the German-engineered Stabilus gas struts, so you have more time for the fun stuff. For your convenience, there are internal pockets for your bits and pieces, as well as rooftop storage.
This spacious shelter has 6 widows in total providing a near panoramic view of your surroundings and exceptional ventilation that is only enhanced by the memory foam mattress. This mattress is 55mm, with a water-resistant base and a 10mm anti-condensation mat for complete comfort.
The heavy-duty nature of this tent is all due to the self-repairing coil zips and reinforced stitching on stress points, so you don’t have to worry when the winds reach a high. The included brackets suit most commercial flat roof racks or roof rail systems.
Your Darche Ridgeback HighRize Hard Shell Rooftop Tent is sure to get you through the night, rain, hail, or shine.

100kg is hefty but doable for a roof-top tent...so long as your lower weight compensates, and you have a strong mounting system. There's nothing worse than putting a 100kg bed on top of a 100kg rated roof rack and having it rip off the second or third time you went through a rough spot a little too hard, and the mounts could deal with the g-force stresses. I'm pretty sure you've covered weight ratings for roof racks before, haven't you Ben?

I think I've repeatedly flogged my opinions on roof load ratings, Brad, I think Lauren is sick of it. I wish there was more awareness of the limitations. We had to turn someone in the shop away once because he wanted to mount an 80 kg rooftop tent on his Jimny! There's no way that would have been safe for him or anyone on the highway near him. ~ Ben

It’s a very confusing topic for many, myself included. I have a Lexus RX350 and apparently they state a weight of 75kgs but nowhere state if that’s moving or static. I called Lexus and they were very noncommittal and refused to put anything in writing. On top of that, I believe there is the roof rack weight (I was looking at a Thule roof rack), and Thule suggested a roof top tent would be fine for my car, even though person weight would be around 180kgs, plus the roof rack. I left very confused, bought a Darche swag, but still keep watching these videos!
At 100kg+, it's not a roof top tent, it's more a trailer top tent! Wonderful bit of kit though.

I agree, Raymond, I was impressed with the ease of setup, comfort, space and quality, but the weight is a real elephant in the room. Mounting it on a trailer would overcome a lot of issues though. ~ Ben
Holy hell 100kg. We’ve got a James Baroud at 60kg. Guess it wouldnt matter mutch on a trailer or toy hauler though 👍

Yeah, the weight is something people really need to pay attention to, a setup on a good trailer would be a great option. ~ Ben

Has your fibreglass cracked in all 4 corners yet? (most other people report it has) 60kg sounds cool, but it's done at the expense of materials that are just unsuitable for non-highway conditions.
Hey 👋 do you know anyone who installed a solar panel on the top ? Keen to know how to run the cable properly

I don't know of anyone who has done this sorry. I'd say there isn't a 'correct' way as such, it would be largely dependent on each setup along with how fastidious you are with concealing cables. ~ Ben

@@SnowysOutdoors I hate cables lol I ve got a full darche setup , with a big clean rig , everything count to be as clean as possible … I hope to find a way soon , they should do like bundutec , will be easier and it s a good point to add to these tent !
How would one install this if it's 100kg? Is there an install video?
@SnowysOutdoors

We don't have an install video sorry, each install is likely to be a little different depending on your roof rack or trailer. It's safe to say that you'll need some help though. ~ Ben
