    I am from norway, i understand swedish 90%, if you speak carefully i could understand 50% danish. Than again its very diffrent "dialect" in norway also, its the same langauge, but diffrent way of saying thing and writing it. I even admit i hate Northern Norway dialect, those guys speak really fast and writing itself is really hard to understand. I understand more swedish than people from Northern Norway, maybe because i spending alot of time with swedish people that work in bergen. Diffrent in those country and culture is not so much, we share the same old story. But norwegian feel more connect with sweden than danish

    I would say that his way of speaking the language is way more pleasing to listen to as opposed to that interviewer. The more western dialect present in his voice isn't as pompous and ugly as listen to as her eastern dialect. Nice surprise, Viggo.

    Just to make things clear. Sweden and Norway has been one country, same with Norway and Denmark and all together (kalmarunionen). The languages are very alike, but its basicly the accents that determines it. Norwegian and danish have almost got the same written language, while sweden have something very alike. Theres ofc some differences between nor and dan as well but not as many. Many old swedish word thats not in use so much anymore is very common used in the other two languages. Well as a swede I understand norwegian better because they dont got the rough accent like the danish do. In southern sweden which belonged to denmark a while ago got an accent thats similar to danish and in the western part which is similar to the norwegian. Although when I read the both languages I understand perfectly.

    Also to make things clear, Finns are very close to Scandinavia but still much more Baltic people. Especially we find that "nordic lingua" way too ugly to any sound person to speak.

  • @EnergyShotStudios

    @EnergyShotStudios

    10 жыл бұрын

    tylsimys67 I'm half finnish, and fins are NOT BALTIC! Never ever again compare me with slavics. Well, the finnish people are much older than the nordic countries. They are relatives with the samis which is the indigenous people of scandinavia. Their language is more to the slavic way but just tiny. Estonians are more baltic because they have been occupied by Russia (which finland also has but, there are way more russians in Estonia), I can agree with that. Fins along with samis according to me is a peculiar poeple :)

  • @lalepop89

    @lalepop89

    9 жыл бұрын

    James Ericson May I correct one little thing? Linguistically and ethnologically speaking Estonians are NOT Baltic at all! They are part of the Finno-Ugric group (which is the same group of Finns and Samis), so it should be quite clear that there is no direct connection between them and Slavic languages/populations. The fact that Russia ruled over Estonia for a long time doesn't necessarily mean that Estonians have ever been or have become "more baltic". The label "Baltic" just refers to the geographical position of Estonia, that's all. The REAL Baltics (from a linguistic and ethnological point of view) are only Latvians and Lithuanians, who speak two languages which were at some point of the history very close to the Slavic ones (they have a common ancestor, the Proto-Balto-Slavic). I hope you won't misunderstand my reply, I'm not attacking you, just wanted to clear a point which is very important to me :)

    Yall are crazy to think if Icelanders, Norwegians, Swedes and Finnish people can understand Danish. Danish is "somewhat" close to Icelandic but the difference is rather a large gap when it comes grammar, spelling and pronounciation. All the nordic languages are part of one big family. Cousins mostly. The oldest of them all is Icelandic. Most non-danes can pickup what Viggo was saying in danish but its like playing a puzzle game and a few "lets reverse that clip on what he said". Why I know? My lady is from Iceland.

    Speaking Norwegian and Swedish is like singing Danish. Danish is spoken from the back of your throat, unlike english which lays on the back of the tongue. The reason why people think it sounds odd is because the placement from which it is spoken from is unusual. most other languages are spoken from the tongue, like french which lays on the tip of the tongue, or Spanish which is in the middle. So when people hear Danish or Dutch, they tend to think it sounds similar because both are spoken from the throat. They are not similar, though. No even a little bit ;P

    Uhm, well, you can't really say that Swedish and Norwegian aren't alike at all. If they weren't it would be a very weird matter that most Norwegian people understand Swedish. And besides, as I mentioned, Norway was a part of Denmark which is why the languages are so much a like when it comes to words and stuff, and not with Swedish words. And a lot of Swedish words are said the same way as Norwegian words anyway.
