Over my lifetime (65) i have heard so many covers of this song.....especially after 911 and the loss of over 300 from FDNY. THIS is the rendition i shall request at my passing. My son's name was Daniel....We lost him in his youth. I will go to him and be at rest . Thank you Malinda

I sing this song to my children nightly (my oldest is named Daniel and his nick name is "Danny boy") i shared this with them and harmonized. They about fell asleep in our arms.

Imma be honest. I've listened to this song 3 times now. It makes me cry everytime I listen to it. Her voice is so angelic, you can really hear the power, and soft tones in her notes. There's so much emotion to it and so much weight. This is will always and forever be my favorite version of this song, it's just so beautifully sung.

Many people can sing this song beautifully, but not many can may you feel the emotions behind it. I honestly don't know what this song is about, but to me it seems like a father or a mother waiting for their son to come back from a war or some sort of conflict. As far as the singing, though, you really remind me of me. ☺️ (Sing it all the time but not as good as her. ☺️ Too true and that's me as well. I sing it and other traditional Irish songs, often, even though I can only sort of sing.)

This is the most powerful version I have *ever* heard in my long-ish life!! It's such a wistful and melancholy song. A parent (father?) who feels he may well be dead before his son returns, and is so sad that he has to leave. It's really quite heartbreaking.

This song has a very special place in my heart. It my parents' "song". My mother was Irish, and my father met her when his ship was ported in Londonderry during WW2. It became "their song" during their courtship and was played at their wedding and both of their funerals. It always touches me and brings a bit of a tear to my eye, and your performance of it was absolutely beautiful.

What a beautiful voice and she does a great job on this haunting song.
