Danish Daddies Dominance (explained)

Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen are on a bit of a roll these days!
Since the European Games which they won in July they have won 4 tournaments (Canada Open, Hong Kong Open, Arctic Open and the French Open), reached the final of the World Championships, completed the World Tour Slam, and reached a career high of number 3 in the world.
It has been an absolutely extraordinary period of play from the 2 Danes.
Of course, it has gotten the badminton world talking, everyone from badminton fans, to pundits, to The Badminton Experience!
And the question on all of their lips is…
What have they changed? What has happened for Kim and Anders to suddenly see this sort of success?
That is what I answer in this video.
And I didn’t just look at matches from recently, I dug a little deeper and think I have found a deeper reason behind all this success.
Let me know in the comments if you agree or not and feel free to add your own thoughts too.

Really happy for this Danish pair for their recent success. They are proving that you can still perform at top level playing againts younger and faster players by having a good mental game. A feat that not many pairs are able to maintain beside Ahsan and Hendra. Cheers to badminton athlete longevity !

Thanks. Good work, that's really interesting. I think the last thing that explain the success of the Danes is their really good organisation during the first shots (1-4). When you play against them, it's very difficult to get the attack after the 4th shot. Especially when the Danes receive ! Their positive percentage in that position is very high. Thatt's why they won a lot of sets during money time...

Danish men's doubles has always been extremely good in these scenarios. Very organised and very meticulous. Makes them difficult to play

@@BenBeckmanBadminton Yes. Rasmussen Astrup are the best in the world when they return the serve. In 2023, they are 74% success in this situation. They were 57% successful in 2021.Especially since at the same time they have maintained the same level when they are in service. Their success in 2023 can be largely explained by this statistic.

From data scientist who work for great coach and national association. That's the future of badminton coaching. For exemple, Rivas has used this kind of data to build Carolina Marin's training and he is probably developing all of that in France currently.@@BenBeckmanBadminton

Great Video and analysis. Love it, please more of them. In my opinion, they also have the moment on their side: the Chinese pair, the number 1 in the world, are too weak in the decisive moments and for me they are not the real number 1. Without injuries, Rankireddy/Shetty are the best men's doubles at the moment. Maybe Seo/Kang, but Seo plays 2 disciplines, that alone is a challenge. The Indonesian MD's are too inconsistent, the daddies are too old. The rest of the top 10 players are good as well, but the mindset of Astrup & Rasmussen is their advantages and strength

Unfortunately they didn't change their unsportsmanlike conduct and their game that relies heavily on Astrup to not behave like a respectful human, can't ever root for them despite being danish
