Daniel Richter - Limbo

Coinciding with the 59th Biennale di Venezia, the Ateneo Veneto presents new paintings by Daniel Richter in the rooms of the Scuola Grande di San Fantin. The works are shown in the palazzo’s historical setting amidst its remarkable decorative programme and alongside 17th-century works permanently installed at the museum.
Large-scale oil paintings by Richter are exhibited in the Aula Magna on the ground floor, while the Sala Tommaseo on the upper floor offers insights into the artist’s archive through a selection of books, ephemera and paraphernalia, alongside new ink drawings and collages.
Built as a caritative institution which offered spiritual guidance for those sentenced to death, the building was converted into an educational institution when the fraternity was dissolved in the 19th century. Today, the Ateneo Veneto accommodates a museum and a major cultural institution, offering a unique setting for Daniel Richter's latest series of works.

I’ve been a fan of Daniel Richter’s work for a while now. Really love these new paintings and it was very interesting to hear the artist speak about them. Thank you for making this video.

I love him, back in the days, Daniel Richter (aka „Ey Mallah“), was a good friend of the criminal and pervert KZreadr „Drachenlord“, but once he recognised Drachenlord was not the type of friend you wanna have…

@@salvadorblancocasalins6526 a cult has developed around this Drachenlord over the years that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. people used to come to his house from all over the world to gather there, similar to a place of pilgrimage, until recently. if you haven't dealt with the topic for a long time, you could think that the Drachenlord is the victim of the game, but if you look deeper into it, you quickly find out what's really going on here and that he's not as innocent as he always is asserted...

Fashion illustrations, bit baconesque in there compositional structuring and distortion of the body. Colours look like he was having a lot of fun. Not that bloody serious now is it?!

How far will absurdity take him. How astutely will the contrast reveal his genius! Subconscious motives and profound intellectual possibilities revealed in his esthetic. Lots of pushing and shoving between the lines are so interesting and informative. Clearly nonsense made to look like art. How about this, let the work speak for itself.

It's a Francis Bacon style rip off. It's not anything new or original.

Why not just admit that this man is motivated by illustrative impulses, but is afraid of being shunned by the “Fine Art” establishment, so must seek to dissemble by adopting an abstract and gestural method? The hollow pretentiousness of the “Art Expert” droning on about conceptual matters serves as additional camouflage. A hundred years ago, we had Georg Grosz and Otto Dix, Franz Wacik, Karl Alexander Wilke and Eduard Thony, now we must settle for this. Too bad.

Everything I read about Guston angers me similarly. He got stuck at Ab Ex and then found a harmless corner in which to potter on until death. They shocked yes, but could it be he just wanted to doodle til death? While pollock and Rothko did the whole killing themselves seriousness. Richter is making nice, very fashiony illustrations.

The aim of every artist should be to paint well and to be original. If only a philosophical approch is too Little. In my opinion
