Daniel Morgan’s Guerrilla Fighters vs British Redcoats: The Battle of Cowpens
Join History At The OK Corral for the Battle of Cowpens, a pivotal clash in the American Revolution. Witness the shocking confrontation between American Brigadier General Daniel Morgan and the overconfident British Lieutenant Colonel Banastre Tarleton.
Morgan's masterful plan could alter the course of history, utilizing the landscape's elevation to conceal his forces and draw the British into a series of encirclements, the only caveat being that nearly everything needed to go according to plan.
Daniel Morgan was the embodiment of the American Frontier; from his days as a Teamster running wagons for the British Empire, to his service in the Colonial Militia battling against Native Tribe’s.
Cowpens would either gain much needed respect for American military leadership, or give way to the British seizing the whole of the American South. With the war of attrition having dragged on for six long years, a breakthrough was needed by both sides to move the struggle for the soul of America to a definitive resolution. This battle would do just that…
Don't miss out on this thrilling tale of bravery, cunning, and the desperate American fight for freedom. Only on History at the OK Corral: Home Of History's Greatest Shootouts & Showdowns!

It's not a stretch in stating that Daniel Morgan started the end of the British military with his exploits at Camden and South Carolina he is one of the least respected and in my opinion most important military leaders during the entire American Revolution. He understood the audacity of the British and use their arrogance against them at Cowpens which led irretrievably to The Retreat of Cornwallis at Yorktown and his eventual defeat. Daniel Morgan personifies the American Spirit of middle finger in your face Independence. All this with a severe back injury after years of fighting on the frontier. God Bless America and keep that channel going brother

ARROGANCE...LMAO. YOU Americans are arrogant & deluded too. INDEPENDENCE...LOL. WITHOUT your greasy garlic eating chums the Spics & Frogs there would have been no rebel victory in war; perhaps just a painful prolonged & costly stalemate. NO French blockading fleet off Yorktown , & French sapper's artillery on land at Yorktown. THE worst British military defeat & surrender until the loss of Singapore to the Japanese in WW2. I'M not bitter about our loss of the colonies to the American rebels; no divorce is painless. BUT you're selective historical myopia about our shared history is irritating, but amusing too. WHAT puzzles me about this war is how Britannia fought this war so half heartedly, & didn't take the rebellion seriously; considering over a century earlier the rebels in the English Civil War had won. DID the Americans ever think back to this successful rebellion & console themselves that the rebels, like Old Ironsides Oliver Cromwell, could win again?

"IT'S NOT A STRETCH IN STATING..." that you Americans love to big up how you won this rebellious war on your own; without the help of foreign intervention ie the French & Spanish. WELL a two fingered 🇬🇧 'salute' to your greasy garlic eating chums! WHAT puzzles me is how every now & then we British are seized by a sort of military incompetence & lassitude leading to disastrous defeat. This was one of those times; another time was the British military surrender, to the Japanese at Singapore in WW2. UNFORTUNATELY the apes & coolies in suits who misrun the King's military, I fear, are going to commit the same complacent & over confident mistakes in the EWEkraine & eastern Yurup🫣 I'M not bitter about the loss of the American colonies; you & we were better off without each other; & we still had Canada...phew!
This program should be taught in our schools, learning about our history is a life long enjoyment. Thanks

I have never heard anything about this part of our history before. It’s refreshing to hear about it from you, sir! I appreciate every one of your posts and never miss a single one. Thank you!

An outstanding piece of American History !😊
One of my early American ancestors was at this battle and the battle of kings mountain. He survived both and the war.. We're still here.
Born and raised in Charleston, living in Columbia in my adult years. Great video as always, Camden and cow pens are great sites to tour.
I always say, "you only get true American patriotism from the first generations."
This sounds great, I always have a gruler on Fridays. So I really look forward to this , I really get great enjoyment just relaxing and listening. The best. 🤝🇮🇪
Each of the commanding officers from Cowpens could have their own episodes! Andrew Pickens and the Ring Fight with the Cherokees would make a great one. Thanks for the great content!
Daniel Morgan is one of the most unheralded American Heroes of all time. Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot was based on him. 🇺🇸

Gibson’s character was, in fact, a composite of Thomas Sumter, Francis Marion, and Daniel Morgan.

I spent a lot of time in North Carolina when my brother lived there and I always pass by cowpens knowing it has something to do with the history thank you for the insight once again thanks for the American Patriots Daniel Morgan
I was impressed with the reason Morgan hated the British. Because of a whipping he received at their hands during the French and Indian War. He was sentenced to get 500 lashes for attacking a British officer. The officer struck him with his sword and Morgan pushed him down. 500 lashes was usually fatal, but Morgan stayed conscious during the punishment counting the lashes along with the drummer boy assigned to count. One tough SOB!
I have been on a two week bender since finding your channel
That was a wonderful and extremely informative lecture. Thank you for all your hard work. The video drew me to your channel and as a lifelong military historian…your video selection looks great and you have a new subscriber. I would add one item to your discussion-the rifle might have a range of 350 yards, but it took a very long time to reload (as compared to a Brown Bess being used by an English soldier). Riflemen couldn’t stand in a normal battle line, alone.
Thank you, sir! See you next week. Happy Friday to all🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great story. Thanks.
Brilliant Tactics at Cowpens!! Mixed in some Sun Tzu and Hannibal. While possibly being unaware of either of their teachings. Inspired leadership.
So little is ever taught of Cowpens or Kings Mountain that 99 out 100 people have never heard of the most pivotal battles of the Revolution that sent Cornwallis eventually to Yorktown were he surrendered. Nathanial Green and Daniel Morgan are American heros whos names should be celebrated far more.
Brilliant video, extra insight gained from something I'd already read about. Your Welsh accident needs work though 😜
"Let's count out loud." Ill get the bill later. Damn Danny
And i quote, "Do not insult me again." Ay, captain Morgan!
@VloggingThroughHistory This video deserves a reaction!!!
That was a really good one
Truly great BG Daniel Morgan is one of my Rev war heroes, Could you do HOKC on the "Battle of Kings Mountain" I believe it would be a good one to do it turned the tide of the Southern Campaign in favor of the American cause as well as bringing Gen. Cornwalce to Yorktown. The Over-Mountain Men Vs. Maj Patrick Ferguson. Cheers from Colorado.
"Do not insult me again"
Fantastic as always!!
Well told
Lord, make me fast and accurate.
Great stuff!
_A 16 mile pursuit?!_ Those horses must have been blown for days.
*_Ice to see you!_* 🥶 -Daniel Morgan (I think…) The fake canon is exactly the type of thing I would have employed. I am always surprised how few commanders showed any creativity or deception.
I miss your episodes friends. Haven’t seen new ones lately.
HUZZAH!!!! And a little dusting to that one armed, whistle blowing Pat Ferguson.....

Awesome timing on this video! I’ve been studying the Battle of Cowpens for the past month and cannot learn enough about it! 🥳🇺🇸 This lecture is great. He explains WHY it’s considered such a “perfect battle” and victory: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWF5pbRrYtzcqdY.htmlsi=5UMqY0uWnke_h91X

A tough man, no doubt!
There's no need to ascribe any great tactical skill to Morgan: he won by weight of numbers, 2500 Rebels versus about 1000 British, many of whom were Loyalists. Of course, given that Washington, Greene, Gates and Wayne would almost certainly have been defeated despite having that numerical advantage, Morgan does deserve a little credit. In wars of this nature it's inevitable that the Terrorists lie about both their strength and losses - at Guildford, for example, Greene actually had over 6000 men and lost at least 1250 killed and wounded, while the British had 1900 troops and lost about 500 (though the British Army was alone in counting the lightly-wounded; everyone else - French/Prussians/Russians/Austrians/Americans - only included the severely-wounded). This is why the British usually had wounded-to-killed ratios of 5:1 or 6:1, whereas everyone else had 2:1 or 3:1.

At Freeman's Farm, Morgan's men routed a line of Loyalists and gave pursuit, right into Burgoine's main force. What he did at Cowpens had been done to him at Freeman's Farm, although spontaneously, not as strategy.

We're not holding grudges after two hundred forty three years? Are we? Strategic or not. The Continental Army won the day. What upsets the limes is the fact psychologically they still think they are master's while other former colonies are subordinates. We my tea toting, crumpet munching friend utterly refuse to bow before pompous illusionaries. One cannot turn the clock or passages of history backwards to the what if scenario. One either accepts what occurred in the current; or one carries a grudge while living in a world of illusion.
Does anyone know the painting at 20:00? I want to get a print of it haha

500 lashes, let alone with a cat o' nine tails, is way over the top. They basically gave him a death sentence for slapping someone. In revenge, Morgan pushed Bannister _over_ the edge… Love his style.

BT certainly fought the war with total conviction & enthusiasm, but his tactical acumen at times seemed to be subservient to his emotions, & he rushed in headlong when to do so was fatal. BT to me seemed too transparent in his military intentions, & his colonial opponents exploited this weakness.
This battle is depicted in the Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot"
He was a genius concerning British arrogance. But in their defense the British has had their way til then! Awesome Daniel Morgan!

Where is now the boasting Tarrolton , awesome!
Very good but mistitled. Cowpens was not won by guerilla fighters. Cowpens was a textbook battle for the times. The backbone of the American forces there were the Delaware and Maryland seasoned regulars who had been trained by Von Stueben. Morgan made use of the militia as shock troops only and never expected them to stand against British regulars. Cowpens was fought in the conventional style and not only Washington but Morgan too looked down on untrained militia.

They said that in the video, and covered the tactics of the battle. I didn't get the idea they claimed it was a guerrila battle, but that morgans rifelmen had engaged in those methods before the battle. 🙏🏻🇺🇸

Not a bad telling of the battle of Cowpens, I would disagree with some of your comments. Overall, however, I think it was a good presentation.
