Brian Blade is the heart, Jim Wilson is the guts, Daniel Lanois is the spirit. This can't go wrong.

You nailed it....and this song has been such a positive in many lives
I met him at a show years ago. Small venue, intimate setting, small audience. He was supposed to play a couple of tunes on his acoustic and answer a few questions, in and out type of radio obligation. Instead he asks if the full band can play and work some things out. Needless to say it was like sitting at the feet of greatness. It was a masterful performance. Then I had a beer with him after the show and he was a gentleman. Sincere, humble and asked me questions about my life etc. The man is a treasure and we are lucky to have him. He also rented an RV to tour in that he drove himself. He is just that guy. Amazing human being and a musical genius surrounding himself with musical geniuses.

Met him too in Northampton, Mass near The Ironhorse. In line for show and he came out of music store. I was only (well first) to recognize him, went up and started talking. We talked for 5 minutes before someone else came up, and then he took off. He asked if he could play a song for me, and dedicated Still Water. Also mentioned me during some improve/space guitar as I had mentioned enjoying those soundscapes. A highlight of my concert going life!

100%. Saw him 2 nights in a row in '03 for his SHINE tour. Ashville NC(Orange Peel) and Atlanta (Echo Lounge). He toured with Mother Superior(Henry Rollins Band) as his backup band. 100? people in Ashville. I sat front row- 10 feet away. He gave me the setlist and all 4 of them signed it. Most real and down to earth person I've ever met, and funny as hell... spoke again in ATL. SAME. 2 of the best nights of music and camaraderie I've ever experienced!

Yes. Thank you. He and his band are stunning.
I first heard of Lanois as the secondary producer for U2 in the mid 80s. In this 9 minute clip alone, he eclipses everything U2 ever achieved.
Fuck, I'm not religious, but Christ, this song almost makes me believe! What a masterpiece!
Daniel Lanois is a National Treasure.
This song and performance makes me feel so good. Brian Blade on drums is the secret ingredient.

Yes, that's me. Today 😊
can't get enough of this MASTERY
I keep coming back to this - just amazing musicians playing and having a good time.
His guitar playing is like controlled chaos. Magnificent.
I've never seen Lanois perform this song (or any other) exactly the same twice. If you've never caught him live ... do it before we meet the Maker.

I saw him twice. Once on the Emmylou Harris Wrecking Ball reunion tour in Los Angeles. Taped it with Charlie Miller from first row, center balcony. Second time w/ Black Dub here in downtown San Diego.
It’s funny to see any negative comments about this performance. It’s a pity that even sharing the finest of the art-form on KZread will always to some degree just become a casting of pearls before swine. This music is of the highest... If you don’t get it, grab a fish sandwich on the way out and don’t bother coming back.

When you have been programmed by the machine there aren’t the neuro-pathways available to hear this for what it is.....then this threatens the listener enlisting a self preservation response of negative comment. Pray for the ones who take the time to leave a negative message that one day they be blessed with the opportunity to hear true love....

Just discovered Lanois, at 45. He is amazing. This is magical. The guitar, the voice # the lyrics, the amazing musicianship of the band. Would you mind recommending your favorite songs /performances?
I am scramble to find words that could properly express my appreciation for this profoundly inspired talent. The entire band seems on fire with transcendent abilities. I didn't really understand that "real music" is still alive and well until this.
the best drummer around on one of the greatest songs of the modern era

This song has followed me a long time through happiness and sorrow. I think it will follow me to the grave. Thank you Daniel. 🙏
I don't care about the phase issues on Daniel's guitar...he is my hero and perhaps the coolest guy on earth. This song is genius.

is it phase ? it look likes theres a bunch of microphones on its guitar and low string are at Left panning and high strings at Right ?? technically its possible ...

He was with me (in my headphones) traveling across Canada by rail. Haunting musical landscapes. Melancholy mixed with hope. A good Canadian son our Daniel.

This is what makes live music so transcendent. i have listened to Acadie many times. This takes me beyond my prior understanding of this song. All praise to Daniel Lanois, Brian Blade, Jim Wilson, this date, this recording. Thank you.

Heavenly song from The Maker Best version ever. Just fabulous ❤
Discovered him while at Fuji rock in 2015; he performed this song and was blown away. Definitely the best performance of the festival !
I could not see for the fog in my eyes. . . . This is an enormous version of an enormous song.
god i love this guitar work
Beautiful song!!!
You may be a stranger in the eyes of the Maker, (you never come to Him), but you're not a stranger in the hands of the Maker (He made you!). If you draw near to Him, He'll draw near to you (who knows what he can do?) (James 4:8)

Brian and Brady Blade are incredible players but lord almighty his drums sound incredible here.
Just incredible. Impeccable musicianship and brilliant delivery. Daniel’s atmospheric guitar notes and Brian’s incredible timing and performance on drums. I hope to hell they come to Virginia Beach/Norfolk Virginia sometime. I’ll be there.
Masterful......One of the best versions of this song, ever.
Incredible.
serious with Brian , Jim & Dan!!! beautiful blend amongst friends. love to each of you... never old, only pure gold.
Fantastic! Love the drumming of Brian Blade and the guitar playing of Daniel Lanois. A perfect combination.
God bless Brian Blade!!!
Beautiful music from a beautiful human being. Thank you so much for the video.
Whenever I get bummed. ....I watch this video. Amazing.
I'm simply entranced by Brians beautiful playing. Great song.
This is just amazing! Guitar bass and drums all great. Playing with such texture and feeling. Live music at its best!!!
Brian Blade ! The perfect drummer
5:23 - my eyes burst into tears ... holy shit, I'm a grownup ... :)
And... Brian Blade - drumming so seemingly simple, yet such flowing organic improvisation throughout. Masterful.
J’ai découvert Daniel Lanois a la sortie de son album Acadie par hasard… j’ai pris une claque musicale et j’ai adoré… et depuis je l’écoute régulièrement c’est intemporel et tellement parfait ✨👌
Knocks my socks off.
Absolutely his best performance !!

That was an indy movie & they didn't have a budget so they just used the whole Acadie Album as a soundtrack... good choice... GOD LOVES CHARITY... mighty things are done by the earthly poor yet rich in spirit
Insane magic to my ears
What a great trio & iteration of this masterpiece... Jimmy Hendrix, Robert Fripp & Dan Lanois... make the guitar into a monumental instrument... its like everyone else is playing an untuned piano & these guys are playing the worlds biggest church organ... whole nother level for sure
That drumming is relentless…
What a treasure, thanks for sharing this!
*Thank You Ctirad for sharing this great Lanois gem. I only wish it were the entire show!*
My God.... That man has pure magic in his fingers (and the rest aren't bad either... lol) Beautiful.
Three consummate musicians who take you on a journey to paradise. It's angular and beautiful with a lot going on but still space for the listener to join it all up. A perfect example of a DL ethereal soundscape delivered with his good humour. No wonder they enjoyed it so much!

This is so damned honest and good. No one should ever play this song but him.
I've gotten to see Daniel twice with Brian Blade on drums at Town Hall NYC and The Bottom Line NYC he was kind enough to have me as a guest..
The song that started it all for me, 28 yrs ago or so. Brilliant stuff!!

man what a group! awesome hollowbody bass
Nice. It's like a funky soulful Crazy Horse
This ROCKS!!!
I always loved Danile Lanois. This band is fantastic, Brian Blade is an amazing drummer, Jim Wilson is another great musician, seen him playing with Mother Superior in LA and with Henry Rollins, great work with the vocals, you have to see Jim lay the guitar, that’s a treat. 🙏
A lot of output from that tiny guitar.
Master of Ethereal sounds!!!
Adore this ... Thank you Mr Lanois x
two people obviously don't like music, Danny tears it up. love love love
