ZaireRH They give them months to prepare for that moment. Without being at weight and letting it pass where would it end? Tons of fighter/competitors would try to take advantage of it. Weight classes pretty much demonstrate self control and all that. Either way this isn't the first time DC misses weight.

That isn't "how it's always been" until 1983. Prior to that boxing weigh ins were done on the day of the fight. We need to go back to that or change the rules about weights because it's dangerous and unhealthy for fighters to be dehydrating themselves to near death in order to cheat the system and gain 20+ pounds overnight.

Actually now that I've watched the video again, those must have been his own people holding the towel judging by their excited reaction after Daniel made weight. So they might have felt the pressure on the towel but didn't say anything because they of course wanted Daniel to make weight. The ruse worked! This should forever be known as Towelgate.

That scale got tampered with. You're telling me the champ misses weight by 1.2 lbs, then his opponent makes weight by being off of the targeted weight by that same amount, then DC gets another crack at the scale and this time makes weight by also losing 1.2 lbs EXACTLY, in under 2 minutes? This is a big deal because fighters in the past have expressed that losing the final pound is sometimes extremely difficult and can be hell. DC not having to suffer to lose that final pound could potentially impact his performance during the fight. Regardless of eating / hydrating before fighting.

wait a minute, Cormier weighed in at 206.2 lbs. That is 1.2 lbs over. Two minutes later he weighs in at 205 lbs. Rumble Johnson weighed in immediately after at 203.8 lbs. That is 1.2 lbs under. Somebody adjusted the calibration on that scale by 1.2 lbs!!! UFC and the NYSAC are in cahoots here. That main event must happen for a title belt. I think Rumbles delay and last second weigh in was because they probably ran the idea past him and of course he went with low key scale calibration idea because he wants to fight for the belt. Am I the only one who sees the fukery going on here???

Couple things : Cormier actually had 2 hours to make weight after missing the first attempt, but he returned in just 2 minutes, and employed a very old and well-known weigh in "trick" of grabbing the towel and had lost over a pound in those 2 minutes. He did not lose that weight. DC always seems very loopy on embedded because he has already cut so much weight by monday - i think its safe to say he did not want to get in a sauna and did not have the energy to jog the weight off. That's why he emerged from backstage for the second attempt with his hands already on a towel and nobody noticed. If youre not cheating youre not trying!

because its contracted and signed so it would be up to Rumble if he wanted to still fight but wouldnt be for the title but can ask for compensation for example 20% of Cormiers purse but the title wouldnt be aloud to change hands

Paolo Petrozzi Another commenter pointed out that the commission runs weigh ins, not the UFC. Don't know if the ufc still had a hand in it, but definitely rhe doing of DC and his team and negligence or complicity of the commission.

i never understood. why is the limit 1lbs in most fights? in every division. a 125lb fight can be 1lb over, that a fairly big portion of his weight., campared to a 205lb fight havig to be 206lbs... that a huge percentage difference. it should be percentage, not 1lb as it's different for each category

The scales were not adjusted, it clear as day, no one touched the scale, and DC pushes off the towel to adjust his weight. DC cheated, I'm not complaining, I wanted this to be a title fight, but it's so clear he uses the towel as a push off advice to adjust his weight to where it needed to be.

You could also make it a title fight for Johnson only and say: If Johnson wins -> Champion If Cormier wins -> he loses title and the new Champ will be declared in UFC 213 or whatever between Cormier / Johnson / Jones, whoeve rmay deserved it most

Nice trick! I found the answer to this mystery. He transferred some of his weight to the UFC towel by applying pressure with both his hands. First time he weighs in, he is not resting his hands on the towel.

Ryan Pettis is 30, Khabib is 28. Age isn't an excuse for either of them. Either make weight or move up, it's unfair on their opponent. I'm actually glad DC put weight on the towel, DC pulling out of a second title fight in a row would be terrible for Rumble.

@@azz1906 Khabib looked like a skeleton when cutting weight, they all put back the weight by the time the fight happens anyways so its not an unfair advantage either way. If ufc wanted this to be fair they'd be weighing fighters on the spot, but then you cant organise events if a fight gets cancelled same day. You'd sell tickets to nothing.

brian huggins you can't lose a pound and some change in 2 minutes. He pushed on the towel to get to 205. Apparently they allow a 2 hour period to lose the extra weight for championship fights, he should have just done that instead of cheating like that. Just looks bad.
