Sometimes, I listen to podcasts as I clean. Last night, I was scrolling through my Follow Him subscription, because I had already listened to this week's lesson., when the 2nd half of the Daniel 1-7 lesson jumped out at me. I listened and and my heart opened and let go of pain I've been carrying for quite a while. I do trust my Father in Heaven, but I have been miserable over my children's choices. Now, I can practice being joyful even while holding onto my children with prayer and love. Thank you for having this available so I could hear the whispering of the Spirit when I was more ready to receive it.

Dr Lili Anderson this was WONDERFUL! My husband and I are parents of 4 and enjoyed every minute of your parenting discourse. We bought the book you refer to here and have shared this podcast with many friends that are parents. The moment you said, "Daniel and his friends were Zion youth in Babylon, and SO ARE OUR YOUTH TODAY. " The spirit testified so strongly that this is true and the Old Testament has so many great stories they apply to us (also I shared that phrase with my Sunday school class today).

I always love episodes with Dr Lili Anderson because she is so passionate about gospel principles and is with discuss very touchy subjects with such wisdom. I think I increased the view ship by 20+ because I relistened to that episode many times. I wanted to add that the issues around permissive parenting are mirrored by that in public schools where students have far more power than students. There is outward disrespect for teachers. This moves into malls where teens play hide and seek endangering other shoppers and destroying property. I agree with Dr Anderson that the young people likely don’t have a high level of self worth and seeking to find inner value from their peers.

This episode is one of my very very favorites, I’m SO GRATEFUL that you included that last chunk of Lili teaching gospel-supported truths about how to raise children in todays culture (in the U.S. because I can’t speak to other cultures around the world). Pulling in the Baumrind model to overlay that with how the Lord parents us was incredibly powerful and visually gives me something to take away from this. This may not be for everyone, depending on what stage of life you are in, but for me a new mom trying to figure out the right balance of demands and warmth responsiveness, this was soo valuable. I love how it was connected to the virtue and integrity of those young Hebrew young men (Daniel and the other 3) who were so individually committed to God, without a parent there chiding them to keep the commandments. This parenting section gave us tools to work towards raising our children to be more like Daniel +3. The very last section about Eternal Promises to parents was the perfect icing on top to let us know that Gods plan includes built in fail-safes that will bless our families if WE keep OUR OWN covenants. Soo powerful, thank you!!!

Sis Anderson I just met with a counsellor on this topic and how to support child with faulty thinking and fixed mind set. The topic for me was how to navigate a balance in parenting until this child is willing to recognize and do the work to fix these things. She had zero suggestions for me, The counsel I recieved from you in this presentation has been priceless!

Thanks for having Lili on the show! Her insights on parenting and helping our children to learn how to respect and trust adults does transfer to Godly love and trust. I've seen it over and over in my life. She is so brave to say these things and so many people are waiting to bash and kick against this. Too often parents talk about and ridicule other adults, teachers, police officers etc. in front of their children that leads to their disrespect and distrust. Such important concepts in these times! ❤

I will copy the notes from this podcast-so rich in counsel for parents and children. Sister Anderson’s remarks remind me of John Rosemond-a Christian psychologist, and well-known author and speaker. He speaks against the trend of allowing children to be in charge of families, and his words ring true. He also gives very down-to-earth parenting advice to people with questions through his syndicated column. I would guess that the precepts of a current trend called “Gentle Parenting” run totally against true principles. I watched a mom, not long ago, ask her child for permission to do almost anything while she was giving a presentation. At the time, I thought, “It’s dangerous to have a child think he/she is in control of the universe.” Sister Anderson just reaffirmed that for me.

This was so inspiring to hear. Our six children are raised and they are all good and wonderful people. I remember my husband "grounding" our children, which meant "I" had to be the one to see that the edict was followed. Paying the price is a sacrifice. I learned to give my children the opportunity to work their way out of their temporary bondage. I would work with them to clean up the house and they were willing to do it. We had our problems, but we would turn to prayer and ask how to react to some very interesting dilemmas. The Lord always answered those prayers and it was such a blessing. Thank you for these wonderful podcasts.

It would not hurt my feelings one bit if you were to make her your second co-host. I could listen to Lili every single week to be edified and love it!

I'm glad you went the route you did. I intend to share this with so many parents. The research and data you shared, as well as references from leaders, are what we need to know and implement in order to raise children to be the Daniels of this time and age. Thank you for the insights you shared. I felt the Spirit confirm the truths shared.

Thank you so much. I also have loved the concept that The Lord plays the long game. It started even before we were born. For one thing, I'm sure, it was know that obedience to Gospel principles and excepting The Savior and forgiven and repentance were going to be very important parts of being able to come back home to Heaven. Even before we were born we knew that Jesus Christ was our Savior. There was a choice to be made, we had to stand up for our choice. We believed in our choice, we could see the difference and we trusted The Lord and our Heavenly Father's plan. We were able to come to the earth because we trusted our Heavenly Father's plan - it was right & it was good. It can take a long time - agency is so important - I'm thankful that The Lord is so patient. There will be no pickpockets in Heaven, because we need to choose no to be that way. That's why Heaven is Heavenly - because of the choices people make. Look how long it took for the children of Israel to come into the promised land. And how long it has taken for the Restoration of the Gospel. I am so grateful that The Lord gives people time to get understanding. Some of us have Pioneer ancestors, so 5 or more generations now in The Gospel. Yet on the other side of our family it may be 2 or less - yet the newer members may actually have a better understanding of Spiritual things than those who have been in The Gospel longer. The ability to be in the world but not of it, is so important. Some family traditions are just so strong that even after several generations, some in the family still decide to use the same methods for raising their own life's as their ancestors used before their family was converted to The Gospel. When that happens the children are dealing with similar problems to their ancient ancestors. So that sometimes - 1 of a family, 2 of a city can happen amongst Church members. However long, how many generations can go by before a family no longer uses traditions that depends on having to make one of their children into a scapegoat and or black sheep. I hope that kind of thing is not happening anymore, The truth of The Gospel is far better in every way.

Parenting discourses especially impromptu or rather unexpected ones can be hard because it causes such deep reflection into such a personal and sometimes sensative area. I welcome this self reflection. My wife and I had such different and conflicting parenting ideas. We found "Love and Logic" which really helped us on our way. When I renew my parenting pursuits I turn to the gospel and practical guides like "Love and Logic"

There's what Dr. Anderson is saying about authoritative parenting (which my own parents concentrated on a ton) and then there's also the levels of abuse (my parents, while teaching the right stuff, could only get along so well with each other and their kids had those problems with some contempt of the parents and to some degree low self-worth because of the authoritarian parenting going on). She covers it well, overall. There's a statistic that in marriages and all partner relationships, there is a number of 80% for how many of those relationships have some degree of emotional abuse, and 50% of partner relationships have ongoing emotional abuse from one partner toward the other consistently. So anything extreme on either side is not good; the medium/in the middle/balance in parenting, as with most things, is necessary.
