The most heart touching story of the playoffs/finals, Sid gave the Cup to Daley first because after the Eastern Conference Finals Daley visited his mom who has cancer, she wasn't doing so well, and she said that she wanted to see him with the cup, so Sid gave Daley the Cup first.
From being Phil being a scapegoat in Toronto to being a key piece of a stanley cup winning team. Who said that teams can't win with Phil?

The Toronto media, apparently.

Mandeep Thethi Have you seen what Steve Simmons has said about Kessel? Go look up what he said a year or two then come back to me, he said that he's a useless, fat and lazy player...
@MScorpioM

+Burnsy Simmons is a useless moron. Even Toronto fans hate him. He has zero credibility. What Leafs tried to do is make Kessel their core player which he isn't, then after the trade he became a talented support player which he actually is, albeit a very expensive one, and won the Cup.

As a Penguins fan, I honestly want the Leafs to win the Cup just so this guy would get to experience it.
I love how you pointed out only having to wait 7 years in between cups. As someone who lives in Pittsburgh, I can tell you every playoff elimination after 2009 there'd be people screaming "BUT WE HAVE CROSBY AND MALKIN! WE SHOULD HAVE 45 STANLEY CUPS!" It's not bad to hold your team to high standards, but I think we pens fans need to step back and be grateful for what we have.
We appreciate the support, Steve. Nobody was happier than us Pens fans to see Kessel lift the cup. Except maybe Phil Kessel.
With your "Penguins, your time is now" speech at the start of the season, you managed to break your jinx curse. Congrats!
What people see: Wow they won two cups in less than 10 years. Pens fans: it's been 84 years

lol. Really. I'm a pens fan. The long wait was 17 years from 92-09. That seven years flew by to me. Feels like they won the cup yesterday against Detroit.

+jaja same here. I didn't care how bad our season was unless we made the playoffs. I believed in this team, and once we got hot I knew the Penguins would win.
God, those 7 years felt like an eternity. Thank god that's over! It just goes to show that you has to appreciate when you win. You never know when it happens again! Man, 7 long years finally over... ;)

PHIL KESSEL LIFTING THE CUP
Actually... the best story has to be Pascal Dupuis... and Cullen was gonna retire until Rutherford offered him a job... and SId handed Daley the cup because his Mom is sick... Kessel is a close fourth though...
@BobbyT.

The amount of incredible stories this team has is... Well, incredible. They even had big story lines against the teams they played.
@ACMEplayer
7 жыл бұрын
Emily MacAlpine Duper only played for maybe half the season and was handed the cup 3rd, that shows how our team cares about its players. Duper was and always will be the heart and soul of the Pens and nobody will ever think different. The amount of respect that Crosby got from me when he handed the cup to a Defenseman who's only been on the team for less than half of the year because his moms wish was to see him hold the cup and a player who didn't even play in the playoffs but was again the heart and soul of the Pens was truly heart warming
Before playoff: " Oveckin will win his first Stanley cup!" After playoff: Crosby win his second Stanley cup!

Dangle you made my week when you described how the Penguins would act after winning he Stanley cup. And I'm throwing up my guts. Thank you ☺️
That part where you said that the Penguins just fire their coach when they wanna go on a cup run had me dieing:')))))
"Nick bonino went from an unwanted journeyman to.....BONINO BONINO BININO". That was amazing.
worst part Is that, Polak, Reimer, Spaling are all former leafs.. lol

Robbie Manuel I know. I typed it before I reached that point. I'm just saying it because people bashed those players but it's just the attitude wasn't good in the locker room. Kessel did do well with the leafs in the early years. He realised that the team wasn't going anywhere and stopped trying
WOOOOOOOOOO! Love you Dangle! Jones kept the Sharks in the whole series!
Pens fan here, you just earned a new subscriber! I freaking love it!
As a Blues fan, I feel ya, Steve.

I am a long time Penguins fans, but more importantly, I am a fan of hockey. Steve: I admire despite all the pain you've endured as a Leafs fan, you still remain a fan of hockey. I wish you and the Leafs success in the near future.
I grew up and played hockey with Matt Murray. Pretty cool that I can say I've played with a Stanley cup winning goalie.

That, and the never ending "when are you Craps sending Ovechkin over here to his 'rightful' home" comments. With them winning two and the Caps zero, I expect the comments to be louder now.
Great job Steve! I watch as many of your vids as I can, because you actually know the game of hockey. I hope you do get to witness the thrill of winning a cup in Toronto, because I actually love visiting Toronto, and going to the hall of fame, when I'm in the area.(newbies, don't drive there, take the train in! We usually park and ride from Burlington) Hopefully the rebuild will go smoothly, and Austin Matthews will work out for you. I'm a die hard Pens fan, but I want the salary cap system to work for all teams, so it yields parity, and competitiveness, for all NHL teams. Jim Rutherford made some questionable moves here in his tenure, but proved to be a genius, when it came to putting the team together! He's the unsung hero here in Pittsburgh.

And by the way....Rush has to play the cup celebration. They've waited a lot longer, than your two choices.
I've watched this video like six times and I still haven't stopped laughing :D
What's crazy is since 2009 is Pittsburgh,Chicago,Boston, and Los Angeles are only teams to win the cup. Easiest best 4 Teams in the NHL. Sucks for Spaling and Martin to liked both when they were with my Pens.
Don't know why it took me 6 years to see this vid, or why I'm watching it in March...but I love that Dangle has a Pittsburgh Gold T on in this vid.
I love being a Pens fan in Toronto!
I can relate to this man on a deeply personal level
Great speck Steve gave me goosebumps
three-peat yinz?
I grew up playing with Nick Bonino, his dad did the plumbing in my Dad's house.
phil kessel just won his 2nd stanley cup. thnx toronto
Phil with the Cup was amazing
"Penguins won the cup and no one can disagree" I bet some bandwagon Chicago fans could
On behalf of all of us here in Pittsburgh, thanks for again showing some CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSS!
I feel cheated. The Blackhawks had Iggy in the video. Damn it, the Penguins EARNED Iggy!

touching the Prince of Wales Trophy was the best part because Crosby told all the new guys on the team 'we always touch the trophy' as a warning it'd be touched - he touched it only once before (2009), after not touching it in 2008
@BobbyT.
8 жыл бұрын
The Penguins have always touched it when they win.
@tailor31415

not true, Crosby did not touch it in 2008. You can look at any of the pictures from 2008 and he did not touch it. Hence him touching it in 2009 when they won ECF.

Mario touched it when they won in the 90s.

Watching this before game 1 against the rangers in 2022 and steve describing what the penguins team was built up of is almost exactly how the rangers are currently built this year
I was so hyped
haha that's awesome :D Thanks Dangle!
Anybody notice that his calendar says hot dog day 😂
im a pens fan so im understandably happy
Steve, the reason Crosby touch the trophy was because in 08 he didn't and they lost to Detroit however in 09 he did touch it and he won, so I don't think he would've thought twice about touching it. -Pens fan
As a sharks fan who was at the game when the sharks lost it was devastating. We all felt like we deserved it.
@carter7944

Leafs rooted against you that year for beating them 7-0
Hey steve where did you get that Stanley Cup? Ive been looking for something like that.
OH IM A PENGUINS FAN!!!
that Kessel joke at the end
It was extremely long waiting those 7 years I had to watch my favorite sports team the Pittsburgh Steelers lose the Super Bowl. This Pens Stanley Cup Championship has allowed me to move on from that excruciating disappointment and can't wait for next year in both sports Lets Go Pens and Steelers.
Honestly it felt a bit long but we're lucky that we didn't have to wait 49 years for our team to go to the finals. Duper winning it was amazing. Also Kessel.
Yea I feel for Toronto fans and other fans of teams who haven't won it in a while or not at all. Being a Pens fan I didn't expect this to happen at all. I did say around 4 months ago something special is happening. I do say we are spoiled with championships so we expect it every other year from either the Steelers or Penguins.
Lets go pens! I bleed black and gold here, glad my boys won the cup,
Judging on post game, Murray will be last to sleep
WOOHOO!!! #LetsGoPens
It was a very long 7 years of waiting
I was grinning when you started talking about the madness of Toronto's future Stanley Cup parade...and then you brought up the Tragically Hip performing during it. Now I'm sad. :
I have been a fan of Phil Kessel for a long time, even so much so that I'd root for the Leafs from time to time. Then last year he got traded here and I knew this season would be amazing! We had a strange mix of guys who were great players that were seemingly unwanted and that determination to prove other teams wrong may have been a huge part of this win. It'll be both interesting and utterly terrifying to see what roster changes come in the offseason.

Not McDavid?
Conn Smythe should have gone to Jeff Zatkoff for winning game one. In all seriousness, I can't believe how dominant the Penguins were.
Actually, the funny thing about the Prince of Wales trophy, is that every time we won it and touched it, we won the Cup. (1991, 1992, 2009, 2016 and 2017) But when we won it in 2008, we DIDN'T touch it and we LOST the Cup. So touching the trophy is actually lucky for us. Go figure.
Bring back hockey, bring back the Cup, let's go Penguins❤❤❤

I feel MUCH safer than in 2009, we don't have much free agents.
Congatz to the pens
I cannot believe that Matt Murray did not get the con smyth trophy
I didn't know how bad I want to see Malkin's baby in the cup until now.
Alex Ovechkin still has slept since his cup win
1:52 Craig Adams out, Matt Cullen in was one of the biggest upgrades the Pens made last off season. God ,Craigers was basically a mobile traffic cone.
LETS GO PENS 2017
Did u guys throw a paraxe for kezsel like we did for bourque?
Am I the only one who disagreed with Crosby getting the Conn Smythe? Honestly I thought a handful of players, Murray, Kessel, Bonino, Hagelin, Jones and Couture for example, deserved it above Crosby.
@BobbyT.
8 жыл бұрын
I think if you look at it, Crosby did deserve it. He stepped up big time in the conference finals and finals. He got a few gwgs and played great in games 1 and 2 of the finals. I think he cemented himself with his performance in game 6. Kessel was a bit more quite towards the end of the playoffs.
@naught_
8 жыл бұрын
Sid deserved it for sure, I watched every period of every game the pens played and he is without a doubt the most impactful player. He didnt light up the scoresheet but he was the best player almost every night and gave it 110% every time he stepped on the ice. And when he didnt score he was helping in other ways and making his teammates better. His leadership is really underrated too. Ask any player on the pens who deserves the conn smythe and I guarantee theyll say crosby. He gives so much more to the team than just points
@Scionofgreyhaven
8 жыл бұрын
I respect your opinion but anyone who watched them from day 1 knew that Sid was a force every game, won a ton faceoffs including game deciding ones, was still 2nd in team points, scored 3 GWG in TB series, was a leader on and off the ice, Created countless scoring chances especially in the finals, has insanely high possession numbers (when he was on the ice the Pens possession % literally was up 30%) played a defensive game just like a Toews or Bergeron, blocked shots, threw hits, There were many deserving on Pittsburgh and SJ, but you can't possibly be mad at Sid winning it especially since he carried his team to the playoffs and proved everyone wrong that he was in decline at the beginning of the year
@odmsteel
8 жыл бұрын
As much as I thought the same as you I had to sit back and think how big of a thorn in every teams side Sid was. Yea Kessel had the points to win it but Sid was controlling the games. Tampa was very difficult and Sid had to practically put the team on his shoulders and get 3 GWG to end that series. It was real close to being a Tampa Vs San Jose series. Sid stopped that.
