    Update: Almost all air-to-air missiles in the game now have an updated warm-up time of just under a second. some have either kept the same active tracking time and some have been slightly shortened.

    Yea warmup time for most IR missiles is now 1 second, they will stay active for 20 seconds, and the Launch Overload G for most IR missiles was removed. There where also changes to tracking of missiles like the R530F and and AIM 9L.

    Yoooo that third circle is the strength of the radar missile lock? I never knew that; I always thought the game was being glitchy and not showing a full circle. Is this described anywhere at all or did you find this out through testing? That's going to help me out a lot since I just thought "red good, white bad." I can remember a lot of those launches were when the circle was like 55% filled, so they would go dumb very soon when the target changed one small thing. Can't believe I have played with radar missiles for so long and didn't know this, thanks for the video!

    It was kinda explained in a devblog when that 3 circle system was first added but it wasn't clear so me and my buddies did some testing to figure it out. hey! great video, it covers basically everything i've had to learn myself in my many games at missile tier, except maybe 1 little tidbit you missed: on the radar scope, when you're using radar missiles (and in the past, ir missiles as well), you will get 3 lines appearing on the side of your scope (or across the entire cone if you use that display), with 1 being longer than the other 2 those 2 lines are actually estimating the maximum and minimum range of the selected missile, while taking into account the enemy's speed *and* your own speed, as well as both of your altitudes. the longer line simply shows where your target's range in a convenient place. tl;dr long line in between 2 short lines -> high probability of kill i've personally used it alot to save my missiles for less risky shots (although the minimum range can be wrong, it assumes the missile has to maneuver at least a little bit, which sometimes isn't needed in a head-on)

    SACLOS stands for Semi _Automatic_ Command Line of Sight, not Semi Active. And it DOES NOT mean beam riding. Beam riding is a separate thing. SACLOS missiles have an IR beacon in the rear and a control system that tracks the missile from the aircraft and sends steering commands over radio or wire to keep it in the middle of the IR sensor's FOV.

    @@rampageTG I think one of the reasons is that it's currently the only modern updated guide on AAM. After your outdated AAM video the only other most recent AAM video is from 7 months ago and people have a tendency to choose the most recent video.

  • @rampageTG

    @rampageTG

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@Ulfur8574 I mean I figured that would play a role in it as well. I was just never expecting it to do this good. I know I can't really compete for being the first to review a new vehicle as I have to grind it out and then spade it, play it, and then make a video. So I can't really pump out a quick vid like the guys in the CC program can. I figured the AAM vid would be easier to do since while I still had to get the F14 and AIM 54, I didn't have to fully spade it, and the script was already pretty much fully written. Biggest part I had to add was the ARH section and then I to make some corrections to the SARH section to add that second way of using them.

    The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

    The fireflash has a very forgiving proxy radius and is absolutely devastating in head ons. In a head on, just before you are in guns range then fire and pull away immediately. in a head on theres not much that can pull away fast enough to make it out of its proxy radius so its basically a guaranteed kill every time you get into a head on.

    small nitpick on all aspect IR missiles it was not cooling that allowed them to see all aspect shots, it was a entirely different sensor material that has a different detecting spectrum allowing it to see deeper into the IR-spectrum on older missile it was either uncooled or cooled PbS (Lead sulfide) while on more modern missiles cooled InSb (Indium antimonide) is used Cooling Lead-sulfide btw reduced the sensititvity to the sun and allowed missiles to be fired outside a 5° dead zone around the sun compared the 20° that uncooled PbS detectors had it also made the seekers less easily confused by sun reflections from vegetation, clouds or water.

  • @rampageTG

    DL stands for Data Link. Basically basically how the missile talks to the launch aircraft so that it can be feed the targets location mid flight before it’s radar goes active. IOG can’t remember off the top of my head what it stood for. I know I answered it in another comment somewhere. So I wasn’t to sure on this one, but basically what I found was IOG was acronym for a type of missile guidance algorithm. Could be wrong on this one though so I would love for someone more familiar to double check me.

  • @soarece8792

    @soarece8792

    I don't know what IOG actually stands for, but it means the weapon is inertially guided. This applies also to certain other weapons like the Hellfire or Paveway III. Functionally, it means that the weapon will continue to guide on its last known track even if guidance is lost. The launching aircraft can also typically preload the missile with a track, I'm not certain that the R-24R does this but notably it has a maximum SARH seeker range of 30km, so I suspect it can. No datalink, so if it does lock on after launch may be suspect.

The reason I suggest using Fire Secondary Weapon instead is that it cuts down on the amount of keybinds need. Instead of needing keybinds to fire multiple types of suspended ordinance, you can set just 2. Fire Secondary weapon obviously fires the weapon, and Switch Secondary Weapon (the second one needed) will cycle through each type of weapon you have equiped.
