Dane Cook will always be the first and only comedian to make me fall out of my chair laughing. That will stay with me forever.
I always loved Dane. He got a tough rap in comedy after his huge rise and a lot of it was from jealousy. He really helped to push stand-up to a more modern age back in the 2000s.

I AGREE 1000 percent. I never understood why until I got a little older. Then when they put him in movies he had a run but it was like watching the same character (One dimensional), or so I thought…. Only until I find out later that’s all they wanted him to do. Besides a movie called Mr. Brooks (which if anyone hasn’t seen it I HIGHLY RECOMMEND)

Jealousy? He had a number one comedy album- which doesn’t happen on the billboard top 100 -then produced nothing after that. Then his brother was sent to prison for stealing all his money. That’s why you don’t see him anymore.

It's not the style I gravitate towards now, but, there's no denying how hard he killed back in that era. Retaliation was the first comedy album that I actually bought on CD as a teenager (though I'd pirated far more before that). I still remember thinking that his early CC: Presents special was the funniest half-hour I'd seen on the show at the time. I'd typically been a fan of people like George Carlin, Ron White, Dave Chappelle, and even more dry, observational type material back then, so seeing Dane Cook practically explode onto the stage with his energy was a cool change of pace. Dane appealed to almost everyone, even people who weren't big stand-up fans.
@MisterK-YT

@@amphibeingmcshpongletron5026 exactly right. I wasn’t even a stand up fan until then. Harmful if Swallowed and Retaliation were the first comedy albums I ever really listened to. I’d seen a little Eddie Murphy and Pryor prior to that but I wasn’t a comedy fan per se.

Very impressed by Dane's maturity. My appreciation of his comedy kind of dropped off when he was rising the fastest, but I definitely realize he also got sour grapes treatment from other comedians, and probably shouldn't have. Glad he realized through that, that he wanted to be a helper instead of another jealous person.
I grew up absolutely loving Dane Cook. Haven't seen him in years, so weird seeing how old he is now lol. Eitherway will forever appreciate the guy for the awesome childhood he provided me with some banger classic movies. Glad to see Danes doing well.

Classic movies? Dane cook? ROTFLMAO That's the most hysterical comment I have ever read. The only funny movie he was in was he had a tiny role in Waiting, which was funny. But the movies he starred in were TERRIBLE. Employee of the Month? Good Luck Chuck? There's a reason he stopped starring in movies. It's because they were awful. His stand up and his storytelling is good, but he can't pick a script to save his life.

Dane my man! I have been a huge fan of yours since I was a teenager in the late 00's watching your stuff. You were one of the largest inroads to stand up comedy for me and I have only grown to love it more and more. I only learned about what happened with your brother like 5 years after the fact, which to me seemed like it meant it had totally ruined you, and that made me sad. Its really great to see that you rose above that, because the timeline was confusing from the outside and you were pretty kind in not going straight to the press I guess. I would love to watch your "true crime/comedy" documentary dude. Steve-o you're a class act as always again.
Steve mentioning JCS made me happy. I feel like I’d get along with Steve O so well.
Thats such a Steve-O thing to say "dont worry about bombing, we're recording the whole thing!" lmao 😆
When I was 18 around 2006, I took the Retaliation album "Sufi" hand gesture and got it tattooed on my left shoulder. Black and bold about 4 inches tall. Forever on beaches or tank top wearing, people used to think it was the Shocker move with just the pinky and two index and middle fingers together. Low and behold that lasted almost a solid decade before I covered it with a mountain scape sunset image. I will forever see the faint lines on my arm. I was and always will be one of Danes biggest fans. Enjoy life, have passion, and want that alien spit super power!!
Dane is legit the only celeb who has responded to my DM's super nice guy and loves his fans

Just goes to show not to listen to what everyone else says about people and instead form your own opinions. Not trying to preach at you, I'm guilty of it myself just like most people are. It's just useful to put it out there as a reminder. Too many times we let our opinions, and emotions, dictated by other people rather than dictating our own and it leads to situations where you dislike someone or something and quite literally don't even know why. If someone were to ask why, you can't answer them except with the typical "well, they're a dick that's why" or the classic "if you're asking me why that means you like them which means I can't like you either because reasons." It's, no pun intended, a vicious circle.

I met Dane Cook at the comedy store in LA around the year 2000. He was just about to break it big but was not famous yet. I hung around the Comedy Store quite a bit, as I "knew people" and I could walk in the backdoor of the club anytime I'd like. It was great. Let me say that again, IT WAS GREAT!!! Anyhow, I saw and met Dane Cook and out of all the was the funniest and got the crowd to laugh "the loudest" over any other comedian I ever saw and I saw a ton of them. After the show: Also, after Dane came off stage, he took the time to talk to me. Like 15 minutes... ( Keep in mind, even though he was hilarious, nobody was trying to "know Dane Cook". We were not interrupted during our conversation and I was the only person that tried to talk to him. Isn't that crazy? So, I was just chatting as a human/so was he, so Dane is a nice guy, it's not an act. He just talked like a human to me and he didn't even know that I "knew people" in the Comedy Store... Anyhow, Dane Cook is nowhere near my favorite comedian, but he was so freakin' hilarious that night!!!
