Dane Bowers on the break-up of Another Level

This is the final episode of the 3rd Series of the Taking Care of Business podcast.
This special episode is set in the aftermath of Sedu10FEST - a festival to celebrate the 10th birthday of Paul's business, Sedulo. The performers from that festival - Ben Ofoedu of Phats & Small fame, Liberty X's Michelle Heaton, Another Level's Dane Bowers and DJ Rick Live - talk candidly about the ups and downs they experienced whilst making it in the music industry, as well as dealing with the fame that came with it.
Please note: as this is set during the clean-up operation from the festival, there are a few minor disturbances in the audio.

Another Level left a lasting impression on me! Their music holds a special place in my heart, resonating with me from childhood into my adult years. It's wonderful to hear their songs and still brings me joy and nostalgia today.

Wayne Williams aka Wayne Fortune now sells clothes in Brooklyn via pop ups. He tried rapping 12 years ago and his videos got about 2,000 hits at best. It wasn't good. Should've stuck with Another Level, mate. You'd all be filthy rich and right now you'd be doing reunion tours with massive levels of respect above your name because you definitely would've broken America. Such a waste.

Ouch @ Dane saying Wayne's lead vocals did not sound good. He was not off the mark though; Wayne is downright off-key in parts of his verse on "I Want You for Myself" (although he did improve on it in live performances, to be fair). I feel like Another Level was essentially made of two singers and two models. Bobak and Mark more or less only served as the group's visual... apart from Bobak's occasional spoken parts/raps/ad-libs, both of their mics would be turned all the way down if not completely off in live performances, lol. (I personally think Dane and Wayne were great looking, though). Dane truly did carry the entire group vocally and you put anyone's big ego in the mix, it's a recipe for disbandment... which is what happened. Such a shame cos AL truly did have some amazing stuff in their short discography and I feel like they actually stood a great chance at breaking the US market back then. But alas.

@@shotsfired517 lol no, sorry. his tone complemented Dane's, but as a singer, he was decent to weak all in all, and even often off-key on record. let's be real, Another Level was basically 2 singers and 2 models - aside from Bobak's random raps here and there, it was mostly Dane and Wayne doing the heavy lifting. Mark was just the eye candy - and fair enough, he WAS (still is tbh) an eye candy.

he has every right to still feel salty, though. basically, it was Wayne's departure that ended the band, and they were on the cusp on something big, breaking the US market, etc. the band ended literally within months after their second album! all four of them could have achieved something bigger and better and yet one of them left, then two of them left, and that was it. plus he wasn't wrong - Wayne was by and large a weak singer, more of a songwriter/musician, he could've chosen to work with that and not against that and ride the waves for another couple of years before the band called it a day. they disbanded too soon, is all.
