and as time has passed, musically, the bjm are far more influential than the dandy warhols. when do you ever hear someone they were influenced by the dandy warhols? people watch bjm and then pick up a guitar

The Dandys are amazing too. I’d say that BJM puts out better stuff nowadays in comparison to the Dandys but their recent records have still been pretty good. Both bands were putting out classic records with every album throughout the 90s and 2000. Why choose one when you can have both! :)

Man, all this Dandies versus BJM stuff is great! it's the greatest fun in the world being in bands that get recognition and can play with the media like these guys can. They made their own scene and live the life and make a huge noise before time passes them both by as it always does. I dig them both equally but dandies get more airplay coz they craft their songs with a professional eye while BJM is more ramshackle and character driven!

What has really changed? The Dandys always made more money and had more recognition while BJM always had more cred among musicians. Maybe more people know BJM now, but you could play BJM's entire catalog for 100 people and 99 of them would have never heard one of the songs. Meanwhile you could play either of the Dandys hits and 50 of those people would know one or both of them.

@@kenfresno2125 your point was essentially 'more people would recognize one of their singles' given the context of what you were responding to, as though it's a retort for why BJM/anton didn't have the last laugh.

Courtney and his band still tour and sell out 2K to 5K shows in London, Paris, Sydney and Melbourne almost every single year since the 90s and will again this year when they do a full on world tour for their new album. Courtney is doing just fine.

No they aren't, both band's music doesn't pass as popular, no (influencial) rock bands mention either band as an influence, that's the sad, pathetic state affairs these days..The Dandy's got airplay at least, the BJM never did, which is, well, just plain wrong i think..

That's why it is good to get info on mental health, cause it is all there for you. Yes, bipolar disorder will often make you do and say crazy shit and act crazy. That's basically why it's an illness. But yeah, nothing new haha. It's just such a waste of tape talking and blah... Mental disorders mixed with other stuff, no meds, make you kind a crazy. What's relevant in Anton's case (because thousands of bipolar people have stories and tempers like him) is precisely the other side of an extreme people. The one that (heavily) involves through the roof creativity, a no-compromise policy and integrity that few "no nutter" out there would have. There two sides to a coin, let's it leave at the artistic one, not the medical one.

Sure, the Dandys didn't make as many mistakes, they didn't "come from broken homes" (a fact that is bizarrely argued by Taylor as a reason they're better in "Dig!"), they didn't take as many drugs, they were relatively organized, and they were commercially successful (again, however that is defined) but the music just isn't as good as BJM, it doesn't have the grit or the nuance or the downright craziness. It's lame.

BJTM is so much better than the DW. It's no contest. Time has borne that out. Anton's music is timeless. Courtney's already sounds hopelessly dated. And I'm not particularly fond of Anton. He's a jerk. But he's a talented jerk. Just sayin'. I wouldn't be surprised if people still listen to a few of his songs in 2124. A few of them are up there with the Beatles best. And unlike them, he wrote his own material, instead of showboating for ghost writers like they did after Help!
