    Can we all appreciate how MackZ prioritises quality over quantity. It's an underappreciated factor of her channel, we may only get 2-3 videos a month but the script, editing, research and overall result is so worth it. Exactly. To this day she still gets criticism for her actions when the moms (Christi, Kelly, Jill) made racist remarks and I still can’t stand by the fact that Christi is getting pass after pass when we all know that if we done something wrong, we need to take full responsibility instead of excusing and the fandom is not doing their own job by giving Christi passes.

But I agree fandom needs to hold more of the moms accountable for their actions because especially Jess, Christi, and Melissa get praised constantly while other mothers like Yolanda Ashlee and Jill get demonized. Those above 3 definitely need more accountability but I also hold Melissa and Christi to higher standards because they are the ONLY moms besides Kelly to apologize for their behavior off camera. It can’t change what they did but it does make me respect them a lot more.

    The fight between Kira and Abby, well, whatever the reason, it is still mean to accept a hug from two children and push away a third. Jess and JoJo are huge Abby supporters so it does not surprise me that she downplayed the situation to make Abby look less bad. In that scene you can see how hurt Nia, JoJo and Kalani look from being rejected by Abby. If they are faking it these kids should get an Oscar. Was it worth the screaming match? Dunno, but Kira was pregnant at that time and very hormonal, and Abby outright said disrespectful things about her personal life in front of her daughter. You cannot blame that on the producers.

    I just don’t understand how so much of the scandals on dancemoms were accepted by society. The racism, the homophobia, the verbal abuse towards the kids, I could go on. Sometimes I feel awful about the fact that I watched this show and still keep up with it to this day because there was so much toxicity about it. How have these moms and dance instructors got the platforms they have when they were racist and homophobic? And why was it deemed as okay at the time just for drama? Jojo and Chloe have both come out now, i hope all that were involved in the homophobia take a time to reflect, why did kaya get so much hate for it. Chloe and jojo were liked so they have support whereas Kaya wasn’t so it was okay to make homophobic remarks to them just because they weren’t like, It’s never okay it doesn’t matter who the person is whether you like them or not. It’s insulting to Chloe and jojo just as much by making them remarks to Kaya because they are part of the same community. Some of the things that went on on this show was just awful.

    I’m only a few seconds in but the intro made me want to say this. My immediate thought is how in the early seasons the moms were told they/their kids couldn’t leave the studio until the argued about something, which is why a lot of the fights make zero sense. I remember growing up watching the show and my family (my sister and I were dancers, mom was hence a dance mom) questioning why the hell they were fighting over small things. It’s because they were there at 11 o’clock and their kids had school the next morning but the production needed a fight, so one of the moms would just pick something random and they’d fight so they could leave. When the show started child labor laws didn’t exist for reality TV, so they got away with a lot of stuff. It’s also why competitions were “faked” in later seasons, laws were updated to apply to reality tv so comps had to be short enough for the working time they had. To clarify I put “faked” in quotations because I don’t think all of the competitions were truly fake or rigged (I think some definitely were tho) I think a good percentage were just created/had altered schedule because of how long the kids could work.

    Saw in an interview with Abby awhile back that the reason she would take her shirt off is because legally, they're not supposed to film a person in their underwear. Chloe & Maddie are good friends, and they probably wanted to do the line together. The moms weren’t going to take that away from them just because Kelly and her two kids weren’t picked. 🤷‍♀️ and in my eyes, Christi put way more effort into her friendship with Kelly than Kelly put into hers with Christi. To be fair, the other moms do it all the time. The moms were all upset about Caesar, the Broadway agent, taking Maddie aside and giving her an offer. Broadway agents aren’t going to like everyone, they’re going to choose whoever catches their eye and whoever they feel would succeed the most, so they picked Maddie, but the other moms were all upset and triggered over that. And don’t even get me started on Christi’s reaction to the interviewers coming in to interview Maddie. They came to interview Maddie and Christi was all in their face like, “why just Maddie, when are you going to interview other girls, why is it always Maddie?” It’s a common thing with all the moms.

When did Kira say anything bad about Maddie besides that she knew that Kalani could beat her? OHH OKAY! She never talked about her dancing, didn’t talk about her personal life so you trying to find reasons to argue is driving you insane isn’t it? Also who is favorite mom? Do you actually know the answer to that question? Or are you just assuming because I have defended a lot of the moms?

    @@mimiray7836 well also with that Maddie beat Kalani only fairly once but still no one on the team in s5 beat Maddie besides Mackenzie so she probably didn’t see her a threat because abby would make sure that she would win. Maddie was amazing not Kalani amazing though but she was almost perfect especially in s4, however with that being said Kalanis competition was mainly Nia and maddies was Kendall. So that’s probably why she didn’t see Kalani as a threat and to that all of the moms knew Kalani was a strong dancer they all admitted they needed her on the team. She wanted Chloe gone because she was the biggest competition and because she didn’t get along with Christi and they would talk about each others children. She definitely wanted Brynn to leave because her whole point was to push Kendall and replace Maddie.

    I actually think it would’ve been more impactful if the show stuck to the truth a little more, Especially when Abby says horrible stuff, those are her words coming out of her mouth so she shouldn’t be protected. But somethings I get why’d they’d edit things for the show, like Kira throwing the bottle at a producer, but the other stuff, they should keep the real reaction but have what caused the reaction there, it would also make it more watchable, because overreacting to Solo’s and who’s sitting where did get boring. However I don’t feel sorry for them, they chose to be on the show, they know what it’s about, and they know when the cameras are there you are being filmed and it’ll end up in the show, so perhaps they should’ve learned to control their emotions when they’re trying to get a reaction out of you

    I feel like saying you don't feel sorry for them because they knew what they were getting into completely erases all the underhanded stuff the producers did. The show that they signed up was supposed to be a documentary about competition dancers. The producers also got Abby to sign a contract while she was busy and in the middle of a competition saying they couldn't show the dances unless she did. Also, they forced them to say and do things in season 1 and threatened to not pay them or sue them for breach of contract (which weren't actuallu legal, btw) if they didn't cause drama or wanted to leave. No, they very much did not know what they were signing up for. And it's hard to "learn to control your emotions" when you're being constantly antagonized and you and your child's wellbeing are at stake.

    I talked to a lot of strangers online at age 13 and my parents didn't monitor me very closely. This could have been me. I knew not to meet any of them or give them my location, and I knew about sexual predators, but what if I hadn't? What if I became really smitten with someone online? Would I have acted any differently than Carly? Feelings are very intense at that age and cloud your judgment. I remember feeling completely despondent whenever I was spurned by any crushes at school. The mother was also too trusting and I'm sure she regrets it. But she's not the first parent to be deceived by someone trying to seem well intentioned. Think about all the children who were molested by a family member, neighbor, priest, coach, or teacher when left in their care.

    Cathy, Abby, and Jess seemed to be the only ones who realized they were there to make an entertaining TV show. The other moms let themselves and their girls take it way too seriously. Viv and Jojo had the best attitude of all the girls because their moms explained to them what was really going on, and they didn't internalize the nonsense. Melissa should have left the show, along with her kids, as soon as Chandelier hit big. Jess left with Jojo as soon as Boomerang hit big, and Jojo had the good sense to remain on good terms with Abby, never saying anything negative about her in the press.

  • @c.swinford8283

    @c.swinford8283

    I think that Cathy and Jess (and Vivi and Jojo) did understand it as TV and not real life. I imagine both moms had explained that to their kids in advance, I agree. I don't think Abby was able to keep the show separated from reality, though. I think at first she was just being herself, then she did try to do what the producers asked and stir up more drama, but I think because she had been the girls' dance teacher for years already that she realized her sudden change in behavior and personality was legitimately scary to them. And I do think she felt bad, but she was also stuck. I think she caved under the pressure of the producers and the show in general and had some sort of nervous breakdown. Eventually I think she gave up and the "real" Abby didn't even exist anymore. She wasn't married and didn't have kids. Her dance studio and her dance kids were her WHOLE life, and she was very dedicated to them, and her self image and self esteem were tied into them. I think this show made her lose her sense of self to the point that she wasn't herself; there are little moments where she appears to try to "come back" and it just doesn't work. She should have weasled her way out of that contract. I feel like I could write a book on her psyche in the context of this show. At some point, she wasn't just being dramatic for the camera, she was really lashing out at the girls and the moms, and that wasn't okay. But I think it stemmed from the insane amount of stress that the show put her under too. Also, her mom died during the show's run, and her dog died during it as well. Idk I think all that plus realizing she's burned the bridges between her and all the students and moms (even though maybe in her mind she really didn't want to do that and couldn't help it) and losing touch with even herself would be enough to throw someone into a weird funk. Not to mention her financial/ legal thing. Idk, I know that had I been Abby I would not have been able to handle all that. No way. It also explains why the moms and girls stayed for a long time. They already knew her, and she had previously been a normal person and caring dance teacher. They likely did not notice when her acting tough for the camera started to meld in with her actually struggling either until it was too late to address calmly and they were already mad.

Trauma makes a person how they are and that turns into subconscious trauma. Therefore she is the way that she is to others as a result of how others were to her. I will and I will never and never will blame Abby Lee for being the way she is. I know she means well and her heart is in the right place despite her toughness and her tough love.
