Very close fight, I had it 2-2 going into the 5th but I could see how it would be 3-1 to Adesanya. 4-1 was a joke, hate how biased the commentary was, sucking izzy off for walking forward and not doing much, whilst criticising whittaker for landing double jabs and jab left hooks with bisping saying “he needs to stop only using his left hand, Izzy will figure him out” whilst his left hand landed every single time. Idc who you think won, don’t act like the commentary wasn’t biased, DC and Bisping are good commentators but they always take sides in big fights which makes the whole experience annoying.

It is just natural for champions. Izzy, jones, twood, kamaru. They all start fighting smarter when they are champs and ask the contenders to take the belt, not taking as many risks. Anybody who says izzy is a boring fighter hasnt watched him before he was champ e.g. the gastellum fight. And then people start hating on them for being a smart fighter, not wanting to lose their belt. Its a lose-lose sotuation. You either take too many risks and eventually get caught or you fight smart and lose the fans. At the end of the day they fight for themselves and their legacies, no shame in that.

I gave it to Whittaker tbh as he was the aggressor in the 3rd and seemed to find his timing and land cleaner and get inside Izzy's range finally. When he did that he was winning the fight. Izzy is to long and fast to stand outside and play defense. It'll be interesting to see if Cannonier can manhandle and bully him like Jan did. I watched the title fight 3 times back to back. Twice without the commentary and I gave Rob 3 rounds comfortably, Izzy smashed round one undeniably. But if you took the names away and had it blue vs red then robs side won clearly. Apart from the knockdown and the leg kicks all adesanya had was pressure he kept moving forward. Everytime Rob threw the jab he snapped adesanyas head back, he evaded all significant strikes to the head that Izzy threw. Izzy land a handful of leg kicks and a couple body shots but whittaker hit without being hit plus landed 50% of the takedowns attempted. I think it came down to the fact he never significantly hurt Izzy or kept him down after the takedown, and so adesanya could keep the pressure. Izzy shattered Robs confidence with the 1st round and for the rest of the fight whittaker couldn't let his hands go, was frustrating to watch. A fan of both guys and they are clearly the 2 best Glad it was competitive and happy to see the respect between them after the bout

You're right takedowns are less significant if you can't make anything from them, I was only talking from a scoring standpoint. Izzy showed supreme confidence and made the obvious number 2 look dull and unconfident, but if you were judging a noname bout I think whittaker side would take it.
