Dan Soder: Nelson Muntz | Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank Episode 467
Комедия
Fatherless pot addicted standup comedian Dan Soder talks to well raised comic Ari Shaffir about what it’s like growing up with a deadbeat dad. That’s right. Much like the Simpsons’ Nelson Muntz, Dan’s father went out for cigarettes one day but unlike Nelson’s dad, Dan’s drank himself to death to keep from having to feel bad about not sending birthday cards home every freaking year.
After we finished the episode, I had one last question to ask Dan but I forgot, so I drove all the way to his place just to ask him this one question, because I care so much about you, the listener. Watch "Son Of A Gary" on HBOMax right now!

Dan is like most of everyone in America. Most people don't ever get to reflect on there lives on a podcast. Most people become functional alcoholics and ruin the lives of the people around them. Don't be sad, be happy dan made it out. This is a happy tale
I just lost my dad to alcoholism. He died early like my grandfather. Going on 9 months sober. Dan Sodies is awesome

Sorry about your dad. Random question. When people say died of alcoholism, do they mean liver failure? Sorry I’m dumb. Congrats on 9 months!!

@@TedSheckler Liver failure / cirrhosis is a big one and probs the most known by the average person but it’s far from the only way people die from alcoholism. *Cancer* : alcoholism can lead to heaps of different types of cancer. The 7 most common are liver, rectum, oropharynx, larynx, colon, and breast. Others that alcoholism can increases the risk of are pancreas, prostate, skin cancer, and more. *Diabetes* *Heart disease* : heart attacks etc *Strokes* : alcohol contributes to 8% of all strokes caused by a clot in the brain and 16% of bleeding strokes *Pancreatitis* : acute and chronic pancreatitis are caused by alcoholism. *Anemia* : super treatable and not usually deadly but if untreated it can potentially be. Iirc it’s like 1.6/100k people that die from it. Alcohol is pure evil and caused nearly 100,000 deaths in 2020 alone. The pandemic especially wreaked havoc on alcohol related deaths. Sorry I wrote so much I just have a lot of family members that suffer from alcoholism or have died from it in one way or another so I read a lot to try and have a better understanding. I never went wild with it myself but once a few family members recently relapsed I decided to just give it up completely. Seeing the potential negatives it could cause me just didn’t seem worth it and I’m in my 20s so hangovers would only get worse Lololol Plus I’ve saved a few bucks since I don’t buy overpriced drinks at bars or restaurants when I go out anymore!😎😂

I knew Dan's sister had died, but the way he talked about her I completely forgot, and when he said she died it hit hard..Dan's the best..
Dan talking about the letter his sister wrote that was in his Dad's bowling bag had me tearing up. I've heard so much about Dan and his family, but I never heard that one.

This went deep. Dan Soder is a king of comedy, and it's also enheartening in a few ways to see and hear his understanding of the pain he's gone through. 10/10
I'm in awe of Dan's sister, Michelle. What a badass! So sorry to hear he lost her so young 😢
Soder really is a gem.. the dad stuff got deep, I am also a son of a Gary ❤️ Great cast Ari
My dad went out the same way. RIP Mike, RIP Gary
I sincerely and genuinely hope one day Dan, even just for a moment, realizes how awesome he is and is truly so many peoples favorite comedian! ❤️❤️
Dan your sister Michelle was an amazing person. You are very lucky to have had such a light in your life. This whole cast reinforces why dan is such a well rounded person.
I knew his sister had died, but I didn't know that she was pretty much the most positive influence on him in childhood. That's heavy stuff.
Took balls to share those stories, Dan. You're a solid comic. Cheers to the future, dude!
Here’s to Dan overcoming that trauma and finding Katie and lil Myrtle. He deserves it all and more. Thanks you for the therapy session Shmuley Shaffir.
I wanna see Dan set up a wrestlemania with his "guys" and play the whole event out like he did as a kid with the comedic stylings of adult dan

This was a tough listen as a fan of Dan and already knowing his sister died. So the whole time he's talking about how awesome his sister I was just waiting for him to drop that crusher that she died. Ugh. We love you Dan
Jesus fuckin Christ, I wasn't expecting to have to fight back tears
Ari, the way you get people to open up authentically while also keeping them comfortable enough to examine stuff in a relaxed way is truly unique. Thanks for the great ass pod.
man, i love dan so much. he's such a sweet boy. im a 30 year old man tearing up on my drive home hearing dan tell trish that he was proud to be her son :(
Dan describing Lake County is hilarious 😂 Accurate AF
Soder’s current relationship with Katie seems so wholesome and healthy - very happy they found each other. I won’t be surprised when they marry. It just feels like they’re meant to be husband and wife 🥹
Aww Dan ... The dad stuff got me .. you really have a good understanding of what you lived through.. I've ALWAYS been a fan it's nice seeing men talk about real shit.. I wonder when mines gonna face his childhood and see it for what it is.

This one was a sad one but one of the best episodes so far.
I was lucky enough to meet Dan after his show at the Comedy Store a couple weeks back. First time at the store and he had Kim Congdon, Andrew Santino and Bill Burr come up before him. Everybody Killed!!! He was so nice and I was so grateful he took time to hang out for a few minutes when he could've easily just not come out at all. He and Big Jay helped get me through the pandemic because I spent almost all of it by myself.
Soder is the best podcast guest bar none
damn dan was tryna install some tears in this one
Love Dan even more for sharing his life in so much detail and with humour in the right places. He really shows therapy makes shit better. I need to make the call again after getting sober and taking a break. Need to work on myself and he really helped make this clear in this podcast. Thanks Dan, and as always, thanks Ari, you're both brilliant.

It is truly amazing hearing Dan's story this much in depth. I really could feel the strong connection he had with his sister, and I actually forgot his sister had died as well, so when the story got to that part of him revealing she died in a car accident so soon after his father, it just really hit me hard. Have so much more respect for Soder after hearing all this.
Dan Soder is the fucking man….making an appearance with Ari shows real integrity.
