This Championship does the most for Jason Tatum....You could see in his face the weight of the Celtics franchise being lifted off his shoulders last night...In fact, I think this might unlock his game a bit....The pressure is now off so he can just play no matter how big the situation...I feel like he was shouldering all the failures over the last few years himself along with hearing all the things that were said about him

Except, nobody has any expectations on Jayson Tatum whatsoever. He can go his entire career and never win a championship, and nobody will care. He can win another one, too, and it also won't matter. People like LeBron, Durant, etc. get judged solely on NBA championships. Not Jayson Tatum.

And also Jayson Tatum is and was Bostons leading rebounder. All year long. That isn’t talked about enough. He was the Celtic leading scorer and leading rebounder. People want to dismiss the regular season in the NBA. You first have to get to the dam playoffs and if you don’t have enough wins you don’t go to the playoffs.

None of what you said changes the fact that JB was their best player in the playoffs. You don't win the chip if you don't win at least 4 games in the finals. And Brown is the reason that happened.

  • @uzi978

I don't think Jayson and Jaylen both being SF's really matters because more than any other team, the Celtics play positionless basketball. At times, Holiday is guarding the 5, and in the Mavs series it was Tatum quite often. Plus, they switch a ton, and every player is relatively able to guard any other position effectively. The NBA is used to having 1 guy per team dominating, a true superstar, but the Celtics have two guys that can get you 30 on any given night, and 4 more that can get you 20.

Most of these national media guys really have no clue about the Celtics. They are too lazy and they just repeat the narratives they hear all the time. It's always clear they don't really understand the team. Only now are they realizing that the Celtics had the best team. Before they really thought the team with the best top 2 would win. They really are clueless.

Dan is lost in old terminology. There is no such thing as a small forward. You're either your team's main distributor, a predominately perimeter player, or a predominately interior player. Tatum & Brown are simply perimeter players, just like a high school team might play 4 out, 1 in. There aren't small forwards and power forwards in basketball anymore.

"Had the chance of being a dynasty over the last 5 or 6 years" is just an incredibly stupid take. In reality, Tatum and Brown making the east conference finals against Lebron when they were 19 and 20 and going to the 7th game was an amazing feat. To hold it against them like they should have started winning titles is absurd. Likewise, only in '22 under Udoka did they start to become a title contender. Hayward was hurt from the start, Kyrie checked out in year 2, Kemba had 1 good year before his knee went. This is why the national media is so wrong about this team, just shows they don't really pay attention and just listen to stupid narratives. They only really started playing extremely well in the 2nd half of '22. Anything before that is meaningless and they were going further than they should have been. Marcus Smart was never a great player. He can play great defense, but he is a liability on offense. And worse, he often had the ball at the end of games and didn't want to give it up. That's why the Celtics used to lose a lot of close games. This year, they didn't lose many of those and showed themselves to be one of the clutcher teams around.

Dan said Jrue Holiday, Derrick White and Porzingis are C-level players. Jrue was an all-star last season as a Buck. This season he didn't make the selection, because he joined a big 5 superteam in the Celtics. He's not a C-level player. Derrick White was the first reserve to the all-star team this season. If any Eastern guard were to be injured, White had enough votes to be the first alternative. He would've made the all-star team on any other team. He's not a C-level player. Porzingis put up the best stats for the Celtics in the regular season. Tatum and Brown both were undeserving of an all-star selection this season. They got in, because of team record. Porzingis had the stats for it. He isn't a C-level player. The Celtics are a big 5 superteam. They have 5 all-star caliber players, 5 B-level players. Something we haven't seen in 50 years, or maybe ever. All Celtics' championships are won by superteams, that should've been prevented by vetoes.

In the east? Pencil in the Pacers to be a real pain in the ass, assuming they get coached up a little and add another player or two. They are one athletic bunch of hombres and they gave the Celtics a lot of problems. If they didn't get weak legs in the final minutes they might have upset the Celtics. Tatum was the leading scorer leading rebounder and led in assists in Game 5 to close the Mavericks out. People say there was more pressure in games 1 and 2. I beg to differ on that. After they lost game 4 is when the real pressure started on the Celtics and Tatum rose to the occasion and led the team in pretty much all areas. He had zero turnovers too. I think it was a toss up between him and Brown as far as the MVP goes.

Jason Kidd said after the drubbing of the Mavs in game 7 that "Luka is one of the very best players on the planet." Huh? One of the best players on the planet wouldn't crater like he did with his poor percentage in the game from downtown. The ball sticks too much when he's dribbling around often aimlessly. And his laziness on defense is appalling. Two or three plays in the game loose balls near him he made absolutely NO effort to go after it but stood their like a statue. Luka has way too many flaws in his game that totally ruin his other personal abilities. No Jason Kidd, Luka is period, full stop NOT one of the best players on the planet despite your bias and your delusional thinking.

Congrats to the Celtics winning the Finals but, game 4 is absolute 100% proof that certain games are fixed. You can tell by the scores of games 4 and 5. Game 4 Boston completely allowed Dallas to blow them out ugly. Games 1,2,3 and 5 prove the Celtics were completely dominate over Dallas and fixed game 4 so they could win on their home floor. I understand wanting to win at home but, it’s supposed to be illegal to fix games, just saying.

They don’t pick up White, Holiday, and Portzingas and Tatum stays right where he was…a good player who is overpaid and by himself, would never be the reason his team won a title. He honestly hasn’t changed that much, it was his teammates who pulled him across the finish line.
