Dan McGowan Muay Thai Seminar - in this video you will see some of Daniel McGowan's favourite Muay Thai elbow and clinch techniques which are all tried and tested. this seminar was organised by Nathan Bendon of NJB Muay Thai so a big thank you to him and Dan for inviting us to film the seminar.
Daniel started Muay Thai at 11 years old after trying Tae Kwon Do and kickboxing. He was one of the youngest non-thai to fight at the Rajadamnern Stadium at 15 years old promoted by Petchyindee Academy where he spends times regularly since that fight.[1]
McGowan became a force to be reckoned with when he knocked out multiple weights stadium champion Rungnarai Kiatmuu9 at YOKKAO in October 2017.[2] This win opened him for big fights in Thailand where two months later he beat Thanadej Thor.Pran49 but injured his hand in the process.
For his comeback in September 2018, Mcgowan knocked out Saengmorakot Sakphinyo with an elbow on the televised portion of a big event at Rajadamnern Stadium. Two months later he beat Ratanaphon Nor.Anuwatgym but injured his hand again and had to have multiple surgeries during 2019 and 2020 which took him out of competition for two years. (info source credit Wikipedia)
Dan McGowan is finally back, after having a successful surgery, he is now training out of Bad Company gym in Leeds with the likes of Liam Harrison, Andy Howson and Joe Craven he has now got his sights set on becoming a ONE Championship world champion
We will hopefully see him fighting in early 2021 and eventually get a contract signed with ONE Championship.

Nice video as always Do you know why the muay thai/kickboxing scene is very developped in Uk (and also France and Netherlands), and less in the other european country ?

  • @DARHenwood

My guess would be historical pursuit of martial arts in general, boxing, bareknuckle boxing, catch wrestling has been around for a long time in the UK, people loved to experiment with new styles and boxing has remained very popular here, that acceptance of combat sport allowed mma to grow quickly when politicians didnt really like it for the most part as early ufc was insane tbf. also a lot of bjj blackbelts came here in the post early ufc days and started to teach bjj and that transferred to growth of mma, braulio, roger and mauricio, carlos etc. Muay thai interest definitely skyrocketed as part of mma, especially with the rise of silva etc wrecking everyone in the 2000s. France has savate so its kind of easy to see why theyd look at other kickboxing styles to grow their fight style. Nederlands Im unsure of tbh, I know from a documentary that a few guys decided to go to thailand around the early ramon dekkers era but as to why older k1 style was already popular there I couldnt say.

good question, i think these countries have a strong work ethic and a history of combat sports. the UK has a rich history of fight sports, bare knuckle, boxing, mma etc we also grasp the work ethic for muay thai and have that drive to succeed and have the patience it takes nothing comes quick. other than that i cannot say as we do not have any financial backing here its more passion. i don't know if certain countries have rules or regulations in place stopping the development but muay thai is certainly getting more popular
