I'm from the island of Panay in the Philippines. All households here has that kind of knife. We locally call it as "binangon". Long time ago was mainly used by ancient islanders as weapon againts invaders. Nowadays, it mostly used for chopping wood and bamboos, opening coconuts, cutting down trees and seldomly used for cooking when no kitchen is available. Back when I was in grade school my grandpa gave me one and when going to the mountains or go fishing I always carry it. Like what normal little kids in the rural areas do. I used to remember along with my childhood friends we used it for playing around, cutting down banana trees like we are samurais, crafting wooden and bamboo toys with it and also using it to help our parents make broom sticks made from coconut leaves.

Great teacher, strict, honest and knowledgeable. What I love most is they were MOST impressed by functionality. I can see why he loves Cold Steel! I`m sure that thousands have awesome memories of this man, but this is my brief encounter with master Inosanto. I attended a seminar he did in the area back in `78. In anticipation, I arrived about 2 hours early sitting quietly and waiting in the exhibit room. He entered through a side door ....alone. I offered to help bring in his supplies. I never said anything about his fame, how much of a fan I was, or what was Bruce Lee like. Just to help with set up for the day. During the simple conversations, I discovered something that caused me to be even more impressed by him than I already was. He is a kind, gracious man of great character. I think that those few moments meant more to me than the seminar and knowledge the gave us that day.

I respectfully suggest the you re-edit where he becomes emotional, we can all see where he begins to get choked up and cut it where he says "cut" (eliminate the burst) continue where he states " Yeah i get too emotional". We still experience his emotions less what he may consider a little embarrassing. Out of respect.

I’m from Panay and I know about the talibong (tuh-lee-bong). There’s a saying from our place that goes something like this: The talibong gets feverish when it can’t strike! That’s a rough translation anyway. In other words, don’t mess with visayans or you’ll end at the end of a talibong. Every household has one if my memory serves me.

It's unfortunate that the sound is muffled. Good thing that there are subtitles. While that leather scabbard is nice, I believe it would also be a nice touch to have a wooden scabbard. Aside from the weapon itself, the wooden scabbard is just as unique and as much a part of the authenticity of it. You have to remember, the Philippines is a wet, humid place. The bolo is still used in some places and when you see the locals use it, you'll understand that it's not spared from the elements that the users themselves wouldn't put their bodies through. So yeah. That bolo and it's scabbard is going to get wet and dirtied. And the only thing that keeps it from rotting away is its constant use. The wooden scabbard also comes apart in halves so functionally, it can even be field stripped if its craftsman so wishes.
