I agree, I'd much rather be playing champions League football next season than win the Europa Conference League, if I had to choose one. Obviously both would be absolutely fantastic. It's not just being in the Champions League, but also what it does for Villa as a whole. Attracting better quality players, which then enables us to be able to compete better in our domestic competitions too.

Why do people only use Newcastle as the example of qualifying for CL then falling short the following year? Chelsea, Man Utd, and Arsenal in the last decade+ have all underachieved and NOT maintained consistent CL status. Only City and Liverpool maintain that status and even LP fell to Europa League.

because all those teams have been in Europe long term. I think the argument is around the club not being used to the Thursday-Sunday etc. Villa and Newcastle are new to Europe (in terms of recent history) so Villa only comparison is Newcastle in terms of getting used to 2 games per week.

Honestly, there's never been a worse referee than in the Villa - Olympiakos game. With Maranakis in close attendance as well... But regardless, Villa's midfield was run rings around. Far too tired, and far too many games

@@mikem8211 absolutely right. They played right through Villa's midfield, and their striker was a real handful. I think Villa's attacking line is far better than Olympiakos' defensive line, but that doesn't matter if Villa can't get the ball forward. The referee ruined the game as a competitive match. But Olympiakos did their bit, fair play to them, 100%

All of the refs We've had in this competition have been a disgrace except One who was great. If you think the last One was bad, the next One has been done for match fixing and seems to officiate very controversially even if he isn't fixing matches anymore.

@@outofthetrash5925 the one the other night topped it for me mate, and too top it all off the people doing the VAR checks we're Italian, with florentina sti being in the competition it shouldn't of been allowed.

We had 1 ref in this competition that was as good a red as I've seen anywhere. The rest have been a disgrace to the game. Having this ref adds insult to injury. It's a shambles.

Pundits no shite more than any fan! I knew Atalanta and Olympiakos were both ginna be difficult ties for Liverpool and Villa, and major Banana skins! I was t surprised both Prem clubs went out! Both Prem clubs were running on empty and had loads of injuries.😮

People going on about 8 games in Champs League, but last 3 games or so will only be as exciting if Villa still in contention for top 8 or 9 places to still qualify for automatic/playoffs position for knockout rounds. No one knows how this New Format will pan out!? What happens if teams around us get more favourable draw against teams at bottom of Champs League who have given up after 4 -5 losses to concentrate on rheir domestic leagues! We assume all 8 games will be exciting with real jeopardy, but it may not be the case! Madrid might put 8 past a team from a team from Bulgaria, while Villa may have to beat Athletico Madrid/Inter/Leverkusen just for a play off tie! UEFA havent thought it all through, they just focus on more games for more TV money! Im not complaining, more games for Villa, but who against, and for what final position!? 🤔

Deserves credit for dragging Villa up but he’s a man of fortune when it comes to the table. Teams 5-8th have been awful.

Giving credit with one hand and taking it away with the other. The table doesn't lie though does it? Villa are fourth in the table because they've been better than those teams...they've also beaten most of those teams and taken 9points off city and arsenal. Simply put their squad and manager are better than the teams below

@@mga830 Villa are above them because those sides are trash. It's simple facts. Opportunity taken by Villa and well done on them. Same happened to Newcastle last year. Thrashed in Europe, sitting mid table. It's likely where Villa will be next season if United, Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs don't get their act together.

⁠@@antoinedoinellthat’s not how it works just because other teams are bad doesn’t mean another team is lucky if you look through almost every season there are a couple of teams who underperform their level. Villa at their best have shown they can beat teams like Arsenal and City Villa are where they deserve to be it’s not just because other teams are bad it’s such a lazy comment. Also did you actually watch Newcastle in the champions league no one battered them if it wasn’t for a dodgy decision in the PSG game they had a chance of going through in a very difficult group.
